Not countries, cities. If it is big and has a lot of tourists, a general rule is to look out for thieves. I have heard several stories about thieves at train stations in Europe. Funnily enough, I have not encountered any thieves myself, and I have lived in Germany and Norway, and traveled around a bit in Europe.

I get that impression from everyone around me including the media. From my expirience italy is way worse, I have been on vacation in france like 10 times now and I never got robbed, nor did anyone that went with me. When I was in italy we had to lock everything at night just to not get robbed, couldn't even leave the window open and it was fucking hot.

Paris is an horrible city, don't ever go there if you can avoid it. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great things to see and do but men the people are aweful (most of them, there are some nice ones as MC said).

Why do French pick pockets target Asians in particular?

Europeans can use credit and bank cards within the EU zone with basically no penalty, and they're easier to extinguish from the non cash Europeans than the Americans I suppose. Also they're perhaps less suspicious and aware of thieves and robbers. I'm just speculating ofcourse, but that could be it ![]() Personally I've travelled a lot in Europe, and never been pick pocketed, held up or anything.

Most of the asian tourist are japanese, and the common thief won't be able to see they're not. Those guys carries a lot of money on them + expensive phones or cameras. As a french guy, I know that when I take touristic metro/train/tram/bus lines (I mean from and to Disneyland, from and to the airports or near the center of Paris, where most of the museum and famous places are), I have to be careful. Tourists and japanese in particular are not that cautious, and are easy to rob without being noticed, the transports are always full of people and it's easy to disappear in a big crowd. This one was a "chobo" as MC said he got lucky and I'm glad everything went all right. Hopefully, ESWC and korean pros will be more careful next time. Not letting firsttimer all alone (or without a little briefing and tranport pass) in Paris for instance. The city is safe, don't get me wrong, but carefree tourist are easy to rob.

Most people wouldn't even chase the thief because of the technique Phantom wallet, which is quite popular nowadays, you wouldn't even notice what happened
