I actually felt the subway in Paris to be charming with the music being played (although the people weren't as friendly as in Lyon or other major French cities) and had no problems with Rome either. I stayed a month in both cities so while I don't travel there often I did get to know the cities quite well. Also Paris may be too big to walk around, but they have a wonderful bike system you can use and Rome is small enough you can just walk around to most places (of course this depends on the place you're staying). Now that I think about it. What surprised me most about Rome is rather how safe it all felt, I walked around the city at absolutely ridiculous hours. Hours at which I should be looking over my shoulder in my own city (Rotterdam) and yet nothing felt threatening or dangerous. | ||
