There is a old topic about iloveOOv played Starcraft 2 for fun with BoxeR.You can see their accounts here.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=155788&currentpage=5#96

But after 1 month iloveOOv never played Starcraft 2 and keep coaching Starcraft 1 team SKT1.iloveOOv left from SKT1 team and went for military in the beginning of season 3 of Starcraft 2 ladder.Meanwhile he started sc2 laddering!

Old news from playxp, they confirmed this OOv account.

edit:you can see from here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=155788&currentpage=5#96 this real OOv account, when game released iloveOOv was very high on ladder with this id and playXP confirmed thats oov account in the past.

edit #2:this account played 0 games in season #2,i mean meanwhile coaching SKT1.And played only first 1 months of Season 1.Just started mass games in this Season in Military Service.

MMA Code S Winner Interview:
Q: When you were playing Starcraft 1, you once said that if you failed to win a tournament within a year, you would retire from gaming. Does this win make you think about your past?
A: Yes it does. Thinking back now, it was precisely because I did that, that I am able to win this tournament today. It also reminds me of iloveoov (SKT1 Terran Coach), who picked me at my first try. Recently, he's also been watching Starcraft 2, and I guess he'd also be watching this tournament. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him.

I doubt it's him, it would be easy for me to create an account right now called Jangbi, or Jaedong, but does that prove that it is them playing? No, it doesn't. It just proves I have the ability to copy and paste a name from the TLPD.

However, I'd love for this to be true. The same with Nal_Ra, I hope he is going to try it as a player before becoming a caster.

This would be cool if it's true, but I'm not sure how this is evidence of the real iloveoov. The PlayXP link seems to just be rankings. Of course, I can't read Korean so maybe I'm missing something. Where is the hard evidence?

hmm, does he ? I mean, do you have a source of info, where it says iloveoov is in the army ? (might be missing something, but don't usually koreans have to go to the army when they are about 20-25 years, and iloveoov is 28 years old and is married)

Just because he's playing sc2 doesn't mean he's going to play professionally. That's like saying just because a quake pro might play some tf2 on the side he's automatically a pro in both. I'd stay back with any predictions until something is officially announced.

He's playing ladder games in his free time as a desk worker in mandatory military service. I'd take him playing the Diablo III beta with the same significance.

Actually, more, because it'd imply Blizzard knows who iloveoov is.

you have to apply to Airforce before to be a part of it, and both Nal_ra and Oov would fail the physical test anyway.

Rofl....check some BW stuff...Air Force Ace is a BW team with players that were called to the military service while active and they applied to join the team. Last year ACE even got a few good results with GGaemo and FBH pulling the team!

But i don't expect him to come dominate. Would probably be another solid Code S Terran but nothing exceptionnal yet like NaDa is.

Nobody knows who's currently playing with that account. As it could be anyone, I don't really care about that account - yet.

Things will change, when someone close to him confirms that it's actually him playing.

this is his 2v2 and 3v3 partner, also a ~60% masters Protoss. Obviously he is also someone noteworthy, one would presume. Someone get a translator in here :D

First of all, if this guy actually decided to go pro in SC2, that would be amazing. It's really fun to think about.

But just because he is playing SC2 doesn't mean he will go pro. Think of it this way, if a former football star decides to play golf alot on the weekends it doesn't mean that he is planning to go pro or that he is even any good at it. If this guy decides to publicly make an attempt at the SC2 pro scene, I hope he does it for real, not halfheartedly like YellOw.

Also, be careful what you wish for. Four of the five bonjwas were Terran. We already have Boxer and Nada. Boxer isn't doing so well, but Nada is solid code S. If we got the other two Terran Bonjwas in GSL..... o_O

Didn't he have wrist problems or something similar to that? (fell in the shower right? ...my memory is blurry... ) Maybe it was carpal tunnel..

I wonder how good he'd be in SC2, because he was far from perfect in BW.
Surely he was a bonjwa at a point, but that was because he pushed the mechanics 2 levels above everyone else, and it's known that he sometimes neglected other parts of his gameplay and made sloppy mistakes but STILL won convincingly with super amount of units.

Doubt it, progamers almost never play on ladders with their real IDs. People always seem to jump on rumors that suggest good players are switching to SC2, yet they are almost always false. Remember when Leta and Light were supposed to switch... yeah.

Wow if this is true, then the most dangerous mind to have ever played Terran in sc1 is playing sc2. And I thought Terran as a race couldn't evolve any faster.

They're suposed to wipe the floor with the best players playing today, and bring a lot of attention to SC2, making it big.

We'll see how that goes.

Yeah, exactly. Boxer started out in SC2 under "ManofOneWay" or something like that. This is probably just too good to be true.

It's like you ignored the old thread that's one of the sources for this thread?

It identified those BW players and their SC2 ids already.

Oov is frigging ancient, he is a coach not a player, he had problems recovering after he slipped in the shower. The best player to switch over to SC2 is still MVP, probably even with ForGG.

Ok ^ is obviously a joke but you people sounding like this is kinda annoying lol. Like blind-rawr wrote, just chill. He is just playing the game on a casual level obviously and I really doubt he is gonna be a progamer in sc2 after the military. But it's fun to see that he seems to enjoy the game at least, 500 games is a lot of games for just playing casually.

Unless he plays Random. That would be an honorable compromise.

I just had a sudden, random thought of Flash at age 80 playing SC2, living in a mountain cabin with a long, white beard and being rank 1 GM with an APM of 10.

That is pretty cool.

But I recall iloveoov retired from progaming because he injured his wrist or something. Doesn't mean he'll switch over to Starcraft 2 either.

I only joined the StarCraft scene shortly after the release of StarCraft II and missed the years of SC:BW. I started watching BW anyway and I would love iloveOOv to be playing SC2. Such a hero

Seems fake, top 500 korea... only due to his mechanics he should be 300 or so imo but then again im not sure how many smurfs the pros got in that top so it might be true...
Also... i didn't knew Korea still has the forced military service, seems a lil un civilized for a country such as S Korea but if it get IloveOOv to play SC2 instead of coach sc1 fuck yeah... go military service :D

But yeah, Oov is probably one of the most influentiel players in SC history. He showed the power of Macro terran.

So despite PlayXP confirming this is Oov's account you're saying it is fake because you have a feeling? Also how on Earth can you even pretend to be a SC/SC2 fan but not know about forced military service on Korea?

I did not knew its still in practice, i know STC got of few months ago but from what i understood in this thread Oov's got into it somewhere around S3... i would think they would have already got rid of it considering the new laws about say internet that they are recently adopting to be more "on par" with other developed countries.
Secondly i did not see it was confirmed by PlayXP so thats just me being bad at reading apparently. And its not cuz i have a felling but rather cuz there are a lot of relatively high ranked accounts with fake names ( see Boxer aka Marineking, GM on EU IM_nestea.. think he dropped recently tho but you should find him in top 100 master, Bisu rank 50 gm on korea who is apparently MVP's Bisu and i could add many many more )... but if its confirmed by play XP thats just me being bad.
And lastly im no by any means SC:BW fan i read about the players and what they achieved/ watched some historic games out of "respect" for the game.

I find it fairly easy to believe. I mean look at the BW pros who even were allowed to play for Airforce and see how their skills diminished in the military. He's high enough ranked that he probably plays Koreans who are actively pursuing playing SC2 as a career. Just because he's a mechanical monster doesn't mean he can just up and beat someone who plays 10 hours a day.

Hell, all this says to me is that Oov, who probably enjoys playing real time strategy games in his free time, happened to choose SC2 because it's similar to the game he played professionally.

Since when did playing the SC2 ladder mean that the player wanted to go pro?

Technically, S.Korea and N.Korea are still in a state of war (despite a "ceasfire"), this means that they employ military service in order that they can deal with anything dodgy from the North more "easily" (which I guess isn't completely out of the question considering how relations between the two have deteriorated a lot in the past year)

I find it odd how such a start like iloveoov would create a sc2 account also with the same name. I wouldn't think he would want the attention attracted to him as he is no longer a pro-gamer. I thought he would use a smurf account. Eg. Forgg using the "raptor" account until his smurf was discovered.

So, is this substantiated or just rumors?

The thread cited in the OP is not conclusive:

Mod edit: a lot of people seem to be misunderstanding this thread. This only means these players are (supposedly) playing SC2, not that they're leaving BW or anything like that (it may be the case for some of them, but no one knows yet.)

My emphasis.

People are getting ahead of themselves. Oov isn't likely to go pro in SC2 with his relationships to SKT1 and currently being in the military. He retired from BW because of injury and had a pretty dramatic decline in skill after his reign as bonjwa ended. If he commits to the SC2 scene the most likely scenario is him becoming a coach in SlayerS alongside Boxer.

If he's just joined the army, I blieve they have to serve, what, 2 years? Unless they let him play like they let ACE play, I doubt we'll see him competitive, sadly.

Yes, but you've got to understand as well that oov had a mind for the game like no one else as well. Up until very recently oov's revolutionary builds that have been channeled through fantasy have been groundbreakingly amazing. In a game where the mental aspect is so important, I can see him making the SlayerS terrans even more bad ass, and that is a truly frightening idea.

no, the guy is completely right, everybody is getting way too excited. he is clearly treating it like a hobby. oov with any amount of dedication could get korean GM even with his wrist injury. like you said, he's one of the most intelligent progamers by a long shot, he could wreck ladder if he tried. the fact that he isn't shows that he isn't trying. so nothing's really changed from when playxp originally found his ID, and there's no point thinking he might actually be transitioning unlike for example ForGG who was GM and had invested a lot of time into getting good at the game

Actually BW pros who start playing in ACE go super saiyan level 64 mode. This season was the best season of ACE and it was all because players like Iris, Firebathero, ggaemo went super saiyan mode on the proleague. If Kal becomes something similar, ACE can even play off-season.

EDIT: Appearently it is super saiyan and not super saian.

quake and tf2 are completely different games, if u were to say a quake 3 pro, went to be a quake 4 pro then that would be a different story and it happen a lot actually.

I don't want him to play SC2, but do your research before talking like that about OOV.

This is both good and bad. Good because the best player of all time is coming to SC2. Bad because this mean more Terran dominance, and consequently more TvTs if he is going to make a return to form here.

Yes, but you've got to understand as well that oov had a mind for the game like no one else as well. Agree to disagree I guess, but don't shit on people just because they dare to hope a legend will at least shed some of his influence on the game. Also GM in Korea is impossible to break into for a long long long time because they all play constantly.

I can't believe this to be true. He injured his wrist(s?) and that caused him to retire almost immediately iirc.

I don't think his wrist injury would allow him to play sc2. Unless he's godlike with mouse only.

I know their the same because on sc2 gears it shows the same 2v2 team and 3v3 team. Don't know why spelling is different >>

also on sc2ranks there is only 1 iloveoov with masters and thats this guy (and I know the guy i played was masters)

Also when I right click on the sc2 gears to show the profile it links to the same one. Just posting this to clarify they are the same ones and no idea why their spelling is different xD (in terms of lower case/upper case!)

Ah the cheater terran. Looks like he's only in masters right now. Unlike most retired progamers I'm not sure I'd want him switching to SC2. He still played a big role in SKT as their coach and strategist. Fantasy's valkonic and bio->mech builds and even a few of Bisu's builds were crafted by Oov.

Macro still matters. Just watch MVP. It matters less than BW, but that doesn't mean it's irrelevant. The guy you're responding to is wrong anyways. Oov was amazing at macro...relative to his time. Compared to the new generation of progamers he isn't anything special. Still a strategic mastermind though.

Why would you post here just to bash "sc2" players? lmao.

Also no but he has played a ton of games.

Ah looking at your post history seems almost any topic with sc2 you say something negative it makes since why you posted this, happy trolling .

Actually it is weird. The known account (the masters one) is in a 2v2 team with another guy (whose name is full korean). That guy is in a 3v3 team with ANOTHER (different) ilOveOOv who is in Diamond but plays Protoss/Zerg/Random.

That could be ilOveOOV's test account or something - it looks like he's just playing 2s and 3s with a friend on it.

Oh man - there is so much incredible awesomeness that you should read about.. If you appreciate the emperor, then the oov story is just.. beautiful.

Worth reading up about.

As for oov in sc2 - i think that would be something close to ridonculous :p imagine if he started his own team and the rivalry with SlayerS and .. too much imagination to handle =D

Didn't he retire because of a wrist injury? I don't see that just going away so I doubt he will actually switch over professionally.

Though if he did, it would be interesting. With the easier Macro in Sc2 he should be able to keep up with top tier players to a certain degree, and with his pure RTS brilliance I can see him doing much better then the other legends that have switched over simply because of the nature of Sc2 with much more bo wins etc.

he'd streamroll everyone, especially considering it's easier to macro in sc2.

Shouldn't that actually work against him or is my logic flawed.

oov wasn't actually great at macro mechanics, he was great at using strategies that allowed him to take a much faster 3rd base than his peers at the time which allowed him to get more units out. he was a strategical player, but his strategies focused on securing resources rather than all-in attacks

Ahh Reach.. how I wish he would switch over to Sc2... I think he would do amazingly. It makes me cry watching him warm the bench in BW. Besides we all know Sc2 is seriously lacking in the Manliness department!

I wish BW players didn't lose their passion. I saw it with oov, I saw it with Savior. They have a few big years, and then after that, it looks like they just get a bit worn-down and undetermined, and they just don't play so well anymore.
It has nothing to do with "getting old" like in real sports, as early-mid 20s is not old in the slightest and tip-top physical condition isn't in the slightest required for professional BW. They just lose their passion and lose determination to be the best. It's sad ;(.

Outside of the EG house, I would agree that SC2 needs Mantoss or a Mantoss equivalent to show that even progamers can be bodybuilders. Fortunately, there is the EG house.

Ahh this is somewhat true. But what made Reach the Mantoss wasn't just his awesome body! . It was his play style, He macro'd like a beast and his builds were mad of balls of steel! Massing up zealots instead of dragoons and just straight up over running people etc.

Also I just remembered this is a thread about Oov and not Reach! Oops xD

Not great at macro mechanics? lol

Watch 8:02

Also, he is clicking each building individually and making the unit. In SC1 you can't hot key all your buildings in one hot key and just click m to make marines. Which is also one reason why I have more respect for SC1 players then the SC2 ones. The games a lot damn harder.

if you go back and watch some oov games, you'll see what i mean. he had a LOT more factories than he should need for his base count in most games, which signifies loose mechanics

his mechanics were good for the time but not great. the point I'm trying to make is that it was his mind that made him the cheater terran, not his hand speed. that'll translate over well into sc2, hand speed/mechanics wouldn't translate over as well since there isn't as much that separates great mechanics from good mechanics in sc2

@guy above me - you don't need to give me the bw is harder lecture, i'm a bw player and still greatly prefer it over sc2

Ahh my bad I thought it was a more serious injury :S. If thats the case I really hope he switches over I think his style would fit very nicely with Sc2

Gann is simply saying that he wouldn't be able to afford continuous production from the number of factories he had in his games. It's like going 6 gate off 1 base for protoss or something like that, you can only have production out of all of them if you miss production cycles, and it's generally known how many facs you can support off 1,2, and even 3 base in bw, so it's easy to tell if oov had too many. His macro was good, but it was the strategies that safely got early 3rds that made him unstoppable.

If only there was some epic player with a psyche of titanium. They'd be kicking ass for a decade or longer, considering that you don't really get physically "old" in competitive gaming :D. Flash is already past the "3-year pwnage point" some of the other greats have had. Let's see if he can continue (I am quite certain he will).

his mechanics were good for the time but not great. the point I'm trying to make is that it was his mind that made him the cheater terran, not his hand speed. that'll translate over well into sc2, hand speed/mechanics wouldn't translate over as well since there isn't as much that separates great mechanics from good mechanics in sc2

@guy above me - you don't need to give me the bw is harder lecture, i'm a bw player and still greatly prefer it over sc2

If he can sufficiently afford all those factories than why not? You aren't proving a point

he can afford those factories because he missed production cycles

Doubt it.

I know that... But were talking about macro that would be poor macro if he is missing production cycles that means he has poor macro. But yet he is known for having insane macro

The reason he is known for macro is because he played with the greediest openings that allowed him a much stronger economy to work with than other players in that era had.

Everyone keeps saying this, but we need to remind ourselves that one year into SC2, we have TWO king players in MVP and Nestea have won most of the individual leagues. So, looks like macro sill means a lot.

OH MY GOD

He's gonna rape hard when he gets back into progaming as a player >.<

I wonder if it was a good idea for him to retire SC1 to become coach (talking about his self-benefit only) even if he got injured and would have to take a relatively long break

Not to mention that what gann1 makes no logical sense. It doesn't mean that the skill difference is smaller just because it's easier to macro. No one will ever be perfect; people who macro better will still get an advantage from that. And people keep using mechanics incorrectly. For example in the last sentence i'm pretty sure you mean macro (or possibly speed?), because obviously, I think any pro should know how to shift click, make control groups, know the feel of the acceleration/stutter step of their units, how to create locations, etc.

Another bonjwa playing SC2 actively?

This is something to get excited about people. Let's hope he keeps it up and decides to compete after his military service is over.

No point commenting on his play in the games. For all we know he may just be playing for fun and not even concentrating.

I hope this settles this debate about what made oov the cheater terran.

._. Missing production cycles is something you have to consciously do to have good infrastructure. Great macro players dont have a linear increase in economy and army, its exponential cos they cut and reprioritise things in the game. You see lots of really good protoss and terrans skip production all the time when they want more production facilities/expos to give them an advatage at a later time. Even some zergs like moonglade play a style where they bank minerals/gas well before they max so they can decide if they want to make units or mass expand.

Uncivilized? You've heard about North Korea right? Its directly north of South Korea. I think, just as much as Israel, they 100% need forced military service
