The Finish top-nocht player elfittaja speaks about the upcoming tournaments he qualified for, his recent results, how he became better within the last months and why he recently changed his team.
To the interview
Some impressions:
Are you currently a full-time pro-gamer?
Elfittaja: Yes, I'm playing full-time at the moment. I have been some time already, but I have still long way to go. Often I slack practice, but lately I've had so much motivation since I were surprised with my results.
As you mentioned you seem to be totally on fire lately, beating a lot of great players such as NaDa. How did you manage to improve your play that much?
Elfittaja: I think the biggest factor is that I've started trusting myself. Before when I was playing top players I was always thinking so hard which one-base rush I will do this time, but now I'm confident to go expand vs anyone and play my own game and not think how I could surprise my opponent this time.

With the Global Challenges in New York and Guangzhou coming up, do you feel like being the underdog?
Elfittaja: Well, yes. I think I'm the underdog there but that's good think. I wont have any pressure there but my opponents are in situation that they have to win versus me, since I'm the underdog, so that makes it possible to affect their playing. At least that's what happens to me always when my opponent is underdog. I panic too much since I'm supposed to win the game there.
What are your goals for those two tournaments?
Elfittaja: My goals are to advance from my group in both tournaments and reach the Top 4 in one of them.

judging by his apm of 90, he's not the european flash but i heard he's very precisely and efficient with his mouse movement, so that might be the reason!
edit: i have to say that i was impressed by his game lately, he's just a very very solid player.
gogo elfittaja

Sounds like he's got realistic ambitions if he can perform at his highest level. He might go in as an underdog but it so often seems that on any given day any pro can beat another if things go there way. I'd like to see some continued success for him

My advice to him; find a proper way to sit. Otherwise you'll have RSI within no time. Trust me, i learned the hard way.

Well, that's a rather horrible and narrow statement to make, don't you think?
On topic, I would love to see them bring in extra chairs to a booth at an event so he can put his feet up.

I also do that sometimes, when I'm chilled back. Guess you need protoss to do it rofl

Sure it's low, especially at the start of the game when I have fucking 6 probes.
I laughed. Exactly how I feel.

Exactly. Which is why I don't understand why...

Back on topic. He's a pretty solid player, and I expect him to come higher into the spotlight pretty soon. Gl to him.

My APM gets higher all time, the longer the game the bigger my APM gets. I've seen games where my average APM is even 108. Even 108... That's some serious shit! :D
I think good low APM-players are more enjoyable to watch, since they have to rely more on strategy.

APM doesn't mean much in SC2 There isn't that much moves you actually have to do. I'm an average player of 200~140APM and i'm still high plat -__-

i play with my left foot on top of desk and right foot on another raised area, so feet on table=win

From RotterdaM´s Twitter about Elfi

just the best part of the interview :D

it makes quite a difference if you talk about real time apm or blizzard apm.
would be interesting how high his apm are from minute 20 to 30 in a long macro game.

I used to do this as well... you should strongly consider not doing this. It feels great for now...but in a few years the discs in your back will hate you.

he cheesed every game i've ever seen of him (like ~10), hope he's really playing properly now as he said he got more confidence, gl in that case

He did play some pretty awesome macro games at Assembly Summer 2011. He did so as well in the finish wcg qualifier which was poorly forgotten while BNET invitational was taking place
|
woo another wc3 person to support! glad to see he's finally stepping his game up

Hope you make it big Elfi, depressing seeing Swedes dominating the foreign scene while theres no Finns out there fighting.

I do exactly the same, trying to get rid of the habit though. Though when I'm playing seriously I tend to sit properly.

I'll be interested in seeing if he can compete/continue to compete against good players with such low APM. At some point, and against some builds, it's just going to bite him in the ass.
Either way GL.

Hmm he just pwned NaDa at Assembly Summer 2011 with his "low" apm while nada was clicking thousands of time in a second^^
Looking the hands of both in this match-up was just incredible crazy, but in the end the low apm-ler elfi won^^

APM are the most overrated thing since... Spanishiwa? ( )...

Is that a good thing though? Kind of undermining the need for mechanics/multitasking. I'd prefer some heavier micro or macro advantages/opportunities if you have the ability to do it.

He have beated Nada, NightEnd, Stephano, Tarson and Adelscott in straight up games on tournaments, you should check some vods or replays.
Elfi is great and friendly guy.

Great player and great interview - great things to come from elfi i'm sure!

this man speaks truth. i can testify in the affirmative.

There's no way that someone with such low APMs will go too far unless he boosts them.
Sure he's playing protoss, and sure there are some builds that you can get by with fewer APM.
But still he will never be as good as someone like select who can drop and multitask multiple fronts, or Idra who uses his APM to macro perfectly. There will be games where his shitty mechanics just shine through.
|
Man the stupidity of APM posters is sad. I remember Testie shutting out people in WCG's with like 120 apm with terran in SC1.
|
EAPM > APM :/ But I hope Elfi can make some success and show some good games in WCG, IESF and IEM
