on a side note, does anyone know where to get a menu of starcraft related drinks/menu items. After reading about the "blue flame hellion drop" I need to see what other cool drinks are available.
For you guys that are in the same area as each other, just meet up at someones house with good internet and stream and play. Eventually you will get a group big enough to strong arm a bar.
Wouldn't a bar need smart TVs with web browsing capabilities to be able to watch MLG? Or I suppose they would need a laptop hooked up to a TV? I'm guessing the main limitation to watching MLG/GSL in a bar is the technology requirements?

not really, most tv's ought to have the ability just to hook a comp straight up to it. same deal with projectors.
Moving to USA end of the Year...hope there will be a Drink and Watch Event till then in Bosten, otherwise I could imagine organizing one or beeing part of that, if someone wants to step in! I think tahts a great Idea which will one Day become huge..its an honor to be here with you seeing it grow!
+ Hope u guys have a lot of fun on the ones taking place right now!!!!
Here is a small handful of photos from DC. There were others taking pictures, though--I'm sure there are lots more. This picture doesn't do it justice--we had like 30-40 more show up after we took that.
Watched last night at Public Tenley in DC. So awesome. We were all sad to see BoxeR go down and then his apprentice, but a great time was had by all. Hope to go to more in the future.
Barcraft Portland looks awesome! I couldn't make it up this time but I really hope they do it again. It looks like it got a pretty good turnout so I can be hopeful.
So this is kind of a review for the SF Bay area Barcraft at the "Mad Dog in a Fog" location.
I personally felt like it was an extremely poor attempt at barcraft.
First off the bar itself didn't seem too "on the bandwagon" seeing as they had an entire packed house of starcraft fans, all cheering and screaming for their favorite players, buying drinks and food, yet still had MOST of the TV's not playing starcraft at all. This caused the biggest issue for a lot of people all standing around certain areas because their seats could not see the starcraft TV's. It was quite a pain in the ass.
Secondly, out of the 4 TV's playing starcraft, 2 of which never seemed to be working, the stream would stop and have to be refreshed or the streams were a good 15 seconds apart in lag. The sound quality was terrible, and when I say terrible I mean GARBAGE. Nobody could hear any of the commentary at all and it seemed that when you could hear it(which was very rare), it wasn't even synced up with the video. Their internet connection failed at least 10 times before me and my entire table got up and left so we could get home in time to ACTUALLY watch the finals
Ultimately looking through this thread and seeing the pictures of the other Barcrafts, I am definitely jealous and upset. If I would of known it was going to be such a poor event at my location, I would not of driven 30 minutes and paid for parking in San Francisco for an entire day.
I really do appreciate the effort that Twitch.tv put into trying to set up this event but I think if you're going to do something like this knowing that people are expecting at the bare minimum a working stream with sound a bit more effort or planning is required.
We (BarCraft Portland) will be having another event on Sunday the 28th of August to watch the finals of MLG Raleigh, this time starting early at 3:30pm!
This is Raddue, my username here on TL doesn't match up with my username on Reddit. Also if you could make the menu link point to our Happy Hour menu that would be great: http://www.aberdoober.com/forumcrap/barcraft_menu.pdf
@VTArlock: I got to the SF one late, just as the Winner's Bracket Finals were wrapping up. They did have some wireless issues, and two of the screens had video that lagged behind the audio, but for the Loser's Bracket Finals and Grand Finals, they actually did pump the volume up really loud, so it was great volume-wise toward the end, probably after you left.
Compared to videos I've seen of the NASL Finals, it did seem like there weren't as many people. Maybe some of them left like you did due to technical issues?
@ToastyKen: Me and about 10 people all left at the same time, I heard from a buddy soon after more people left after us. All in all I was just extremely disappointed, whoever it is that running this barcraft stuff really needs to pull it together a bit more, I wasted a good $50 on it.
Sorry for necroing an almost dead thread but... I was curious if there should/could be a thread with all the barcrafts in the world that are actively showing events? For example, if a bar is goign to show next mlg, they could contact the OP, or post in thread updating that they will do things for this MLG. Im travelling to the Netherlands on many occassions, and often i have time off and wouldnt mind taking a train for 1-2hrs to hang out with some nerds!
Would be also cool to see how the community will grow, and how much interest there is around the world for these kind of things ...
most of us congregate around http://www.reddit.com/r/barcraft to spread the news. I will have another round-up for MLG Raleigh up later this week.
If you're putting together a MLG Raleigh watch at your local bar/restaurant/mom's basement, send me a message and I'll be more than happy to add you in.
I can attest to the fact that MLG Anaheim viewing from DC Barcraft was awesome. Anyone from Colorado wanna bring this thing to the middle of the country??
I want to go to some of the bars around my area and ask them to play MLG there, could someone kindly PM / answer this question here, me how exactly you get MLG up on the TV? does someone have to bring a laptop + plug it in to the tv?

Yeah - if you want decent quality you should try to get a HD feed from your laptop. Preferably HDMI or DVI->HDMI (these are prolly the easiest to hook up, and cheapest). Then to get the audio to the sound system, is a different thing, but i bet the barpeople can help you with that. They shouldve done it before .
As long as the internet is stable, and you have a big screen and decent sound - nothing can go wrong!
On August 18 2011 03:45 ranshaked wrote: I wish one was happening in Orlando. I'd totally go to the bar
Indeed, this needs to happen. The best and easiest to approach place I can think of is Natura off University, but I can't remember if they even have a TV.
I just can't think of any approachable bars in the UCF area... maybe Wackadoo's or Tailgaters on the UCF campus are possibilities.
We need a new york location that is going to be doing it all sunday night, the current one only runs until 8:00, Atleast for me i wont be able to catch my train home and watch the finals
The redditors over at BarCraft have been hard at work. While it's not the a E-SPORTS bar in every town and city we were aiming for, r/Barcraft has came a long way since iNcontroL's NASL finals shout-out.
credit: raddue From the initial 4 venues earlier this month that watched the NASL with alcohol, there will be more than a dozen bars across the country that will be tuning to MLG Anaheim!

General advice on organizing after locating a new BarCraft Bar
1. Create a new subreddit for your BarCraft city. 2. Post on a self-post at r/BarCraft, a self-post titled "Barcraft [city]!" with location, date, event, and subreddit information. 3. Let me know these two, so I can start linking them with my resources 4. Once you have a finalized an event, and tested the technical difficulties, create a new thread @ TL communities.

Pfft, Houston rocks. You just gotta adjust.
Plus, the Texans are better than the Seahawks. :D
Good thing I hate the Seahawks :D I am actually still a Texans fan, as I formed all my sports allegiances when I lived in Houston. After ten years, I could just never get used to the weather or the social politics. The pacific northwest is just more my style.
I still think you guys need a Barcraft though, good luck on getting that up. If you do, I'll tell my best friend who still lives there...he will definitely come out.
pretty sick life, any chance us "germans" (people living in the germany area as Mrbitter would say <3 :D ) can organise something like this? I'd be down
If anyone is going to the Portland Barcraft, and is coming from Vancouver/North Portland, and needs a ride, send me a private message. I'd be happy to car pool a couple of people. If I take my kid's car seat out of our car, I can take three people comfortably, four if someone wants to ride in the middle in the back (not as comfortable).
I'm also looking for a Barcraft in Houston. I am new to the city so I don't know of many places that would be interested. I'll keep my eyes open for a possible venue. Any other Houstonians interested?
Liquor, nerds and Starcraft, what could be better? Wish I knew about the one in Ottawa when I was visiting step bro and his roomies.. No Barcraft in NB Canada.. T_T
Serious question... is anyone going to the Barcraft at the Smiling Moose in Pittsburgh?
I am very tempted to go to it since I live just south of Pittsburgh... but I don't want to be the only dude there... nor drinking in Pittsburgh if there won't be a crowd.

I'm going to try and attend with a few of my friends, not 100% sure yet tho.
Twice when having friends over for some pre-partying at my place, we connected the TV for some Dreamhack-vods. The only problem was dragging our asses out when we were supposed to hit the clubs, high on beer and Day9 as we were.
This whole BarCraft-initiative, however, is just so pwnage that it HAS to happen in Sweden as well!
BarCraft Philadelphia @ The Grey Lodge Pub I would really appreciate it if someone would also bring their laptop so we can view both Red and Blue streams. Please message me if youre willing to help out, thanks.
For those in Montreal, I shot the idea to a friend whos a friend of the owner of Foonzo Cafe which is a Bar/Arcade/Cafe hybrid in downtown Montreal. Since Reddit Montreal BarCraft hasn't had success so far I think a bar whose already focused on gaming will help get this started.

Kudos to all the bars playing MLG on Saturday night. UFC is a huge moneymaker for all bars yet they still chose Starcraft over it! I wish Victory Cafe in Toronto was running MLG all weekend!
Hey, does anybody know what's up with the Denver/Boulder CO barcrafts? Just cleared my schedule and was gonna RSVP, but the facebook page is no longer there!
If it's still going on will somebody give me an address or redirect to where I can find the info?

Update: Please don't tweet this to djWheat- while I'm sure he appreciates the love, he's not attending this MLG so it's unlikely he'll be able to give you a shoutout.

Representing DC Barcraft, there were probably more that 100+ or so, I will post pics when I get them Here are my thought about it
To the fine folks that braved Irene and descended on Raleigh, I salute you. Even though you took down the elite of e-sports, you were no match for the Horde from the Far East.
To the adventurous young gentlemen and ladies that showed up at Public Tenley, I was with you. We saw, cried, played, argued and had a wonderful time. Even though in the end we had to witness and admit that the master race of all humanity are the Koreans we had a blast with some Vespene Gas, the Terran, the Zerg, the Protoss, and even some ventured and hit it off with the Mothership.
To the rest, the miserable, the unfortunate, the locked up in the basement watching all alone, I offer you the ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Hello, this is your friendly neighbor, fellow reddit lurker, MakaAlbarn. I am sober, biased, and here to promote my community website for the DC Area SCII (like us on Facebook). I will give some of my thoughts, reactions, and rage on the most recent MLG in Raleigh and the awesome environment at Public Tenley.
Lets start with rage, because chances are you will not read the rest of the article. Come on Blizzard, Koreans need to be nerfed! I mean like seriously again? Top six goes to Koreans. Not even Dignitas.Select, who may I add is an American Korean. Nor Huk, the last hope of the foreigners who actually plays in Korea (he is in round of 8 in GSL). Or Sjow, who's name may never be pronounced correctly. None were able to defeat their Korean opponents.
Nonetheless, the crowd at Public Tenley cheered on, for Slayers.Coca or the eventual champion STBomber. It was a great series, both players were showing signs of fatigue with missed micro and macro. Commentators were blabbering some nonsense (we forgive you DAY 9, Husky keep up with your improvement) and of course the lag issues and fail stream. I know MLG will fix those issues, come Orlando.
Public Tenley, you did it again. We love you! I give you DAY 9 ♥. Seriously good job, I hope we can do this again and more often. I must admit, there was a lot of down time and not a lot of room, I feel like the enthusiasm was spot on from the management to the bartender. My only complaint is that we require additional overchairs upstairs!
Special Thanks goes to all the BarCraft organizers and planners, I don't know where we would be without you, well I would probably be locked up in my basement all alone .
Until next time,
MakaAlbarn
Almas
P.S. Pictures will follow soon! Can't wait for Orlando, join us in Annandale for some SCII + Cookout = FUN. Check out the DC Meetup page, itsgosu.com, or dcsc2.com for more details.
Was great to get to meet so many like-minded people!
Here's a few pics taken from my old broken iphone at the Ottawa barcraft before it ran out of batteries. Don't have an actual count, but I'm sure well over 100 people showed up through the day. First pic is an (empty) thor drop, next to a Colossus (which apparently got nerfed and shrunken for this event) and a creep (which was actually purple, even if you can't tell from the lighting)
Awesome time, even though I think I now understand why marines need a space suit to go on creep... uuugggghhh my head hurts!

Is it possible that you entered a wormhole and attended this event in an alternative universe? While there were minor things to work on (sound), I thought this event came off quite well. Had a blast myself! And there was beer on every table.
I still have 2 years till I can fully enjoy Barcraft but the closest ones are like 5 hours away from me T_T so hopefully in those two years some opens up in MI..
Tallahassee BarCraft at the Tomahawk Bar and Grill was great. At least 30 people there, space started to run out, hopefully we can get more room and TVs next time! The location's food and beer selection (a number of craft brews on tap) was great. Thanks to all who organized it, my wife and I had a great time.
yea the san francisco one ran by twitch.tv and mad dog is always really huge. i think they were one of the first ones to do barcraft if im not mistaken.
Wish i could have made it to the Ottawa one t.t There was a barcraft article in the Ottawa Citizen this morning on front of business and tech section iirc..can't post it, so if someone gets the chance...
On August 31 2011 04:10 Dzerzhinsky wrote: Out of curiosity, did any bar do it and then say that they didn't intend on doing it again, or was it considered a business success universally?
It seems that BarCraft (so far) has been universally successful. See this Reddit thread for info. Poking around Reddit, I found many cases where bars had to increase staffing (San Diego) or nearly ran out of beer/food because attendees ordered so much (Portland). Let that esports love flow during matches and bar owners will want to host more events!

Any ideas?
Hey giligan,
You already overcame the hardest huddle, so I'll do everything I can to help you rest of the way. You have friends amongst all the organizers!
I added your event to the BarCraft Map and the r/BarCraft sidebar. It'll be on this thread topic eventually, but I have been feeling a little ill and did not have time to round up the September information properly. I expect that we'll have a September BarCraft roundup thread on r/sc soon, and you can be sure that yours will be on it.
Don't feint! I talk to all the barcraft organizers, and have yet to hear one that fails (even Charlottetown, PEI had a good showing). If you have skype, send me a pm and I'll get you in touch with the other organizers. I am sure they can give you some helpful advice as well!
PS: gogoogo barcraft sweden!!! Make Americans jealous!!!!
I have posted up in the TL Community section about a new BarCraft Anaheim location for MLG Orlando which should help to spread the word of gaming and Starcraft. BarCraft Anaheim post
I got one section of my local bar/restaurant with a dedicated TV for streaming the finals on the 16th. If I can get enough people to show enough interest I am sure I can get that room and TV for all of MLG Providence in November. I am trying to my part to spread the word via Reddit and the SC2 forums on Battle.net so we shall see how that goes.
an update is that the BarCraft in Anaheim just added 9 Oct to their event schedule for the IPG 3 Finals from opening to IPG closing at 10am PST to whenever the IPG Finals wrap up. More info at http://redd.it/kpu2w
Come and join us at Assembly House next to Kentish Town tube station, for two days of Starcraft 2!
We will be streaming both red and blue streams, and due to popular demand, will most assuredly, cross my heart if I lie I'll play Terran, enjoy a ginormous, HD-projected third screen!
Watch some pro-games, meet friendly nerds, have some beers and complain about Terran being OP with us! It's a fun day to meet new friends that you will later be able to kill online, a perfect way to socialise in sort! Plus, we'll have pub-quizzes, Barcrafter-submitted replays professionally cast as well as the world-famous 20-men-strong Shoutcraft!
Oh, and we might get a couple of VIPs…
We will cover most of pool play on Saturday from the start of stream until midnight, and follow most of the double-elimination tournament on sunday from start of stream until 22:30.
The start time of the event will be 30 minutes before MLG starts the streams, we will update this page to let you know, but let's look at 15:00 as a safe bet.
If you want to watch the finals, well, tough lu…. NO!
THIS IS LONDONBARCRAFT!!!
Not only did we triple the amount of screens, get a projector, spectator benches and an additional quiet-area to watch sc2 while the GFs enjoy a cocktail, but...
We've secured the pub from 22:30 until 3:00 in order to watch the finals. There is a catch, we need 30 people to make a reservation for this, and be able to stay until the finals. The pub will liaise with a minicab company so everyone can get home safely, and might be able to help if you are looking for accommodation.
To make reservations, please email lockmein@londonbarcraft.com - we will keep you updated on the status of the lock-in on Friday evening. Please, only make a reservation if you are 100% sure you will be able to attend, as this requires some organisation on the part of both the pub and Londonbarcraft. If we don't reach 30 peeps by Friday, we won't be able to hold this finals-viewing event, but will still have had 2 days of awesome LondonBarcrafting behind us, so only reserve if you mean it lads!
BarCraft is ON FIRE!! I want to tell ya'll about another BarCraft event happening in Oshawa, Ontario.
We'll be watching MLG Orlando's finals on October 16. From 6pm to 9pm we'll be at Shagwell's, a pub within walking distance of UOIT/Durham College's campus. It's All ages and free to attend. We'll have a big projector so each zergling will hopefully be larger than a chicken wing. Shagwell's has all day breakfast and 4$ pints! If you have any questions free to message me danielsnider12 at gmail dot com.

Just a note here. This TL summary thread effort is largely abandoned until further notice. BarCraft simply has grown way beyond my individual efforts to manage.
A good thing though, that means BarCraft has become the success I imagined it could be.
Hello, my name is SaharaDrac, and I am interested in setting up a BarCraft in my town of Albuquerque, New Mexico, for MLG Providence. My question is what kind of equipment will I need? I am not very saavy with the A/V aspects of a thing like this, and I am not sure what kind of cables are needed to broadcast from a laptop to a bar full of televisions, if I need a PA system, etc. Any help setting up a new Barcraft for the first time would be greatly appreciated!
