I wonder if some of it was because of any edited MPQ files?

Well at least it only affected Taiwan.

If this happened in NA or KR, there be shitstorms everywhere.

You did not have to phrase it as if Taiwan was some miniature country or something, just because their population is not as large to confront Blizzard sooner.

There has been some madness in Taiwan right now,
not because of the server merge between TW server and KR server,
but because of the account ban just occurred hours ago.

Lots of people has been baned by Blizzard,(hundreds or more)
but there has been a lot people saying that they'd never use any hack programs or any add-ins.
"I just only play Bejeweled in my whole starcraft career, and I still got banned!" said ventxyz one of the player that has been banned.

People had been telephoning BlizzardTW for information and help, but in vain.
Now some people are shouting out to gather up and ask the Consumer Protection Commission for help.

There are some that suspected an error had happened to the server while moving the data from TW server to KR server. But everything now is unclear.

We wish the best for the people who had been misbanned, and ashame those who use illegal add-ons.

----------
Update:
The people who got banned, received a letter from Blizzard, of course,
But the interesting thing is that the Sender of the E-mail is not "Blizzard-Starcraft" but "Blizzard-World of Warcraft" and it is not written in Chinese or English either, it is written in Korean which most people can't understand.
This news is from Bahamut, the largest gaming forum in Taiwan.

---------
Update:

I just heard more stories from the Taiwanese forums.

Some guy received a letter from Blizzard saying that their NA account is banned, but he does not have an NA account to begin with.

Some people had their entire account "deleted", as in they could not even log on to the battle.net webpage. It is like the account did not exist at all. (If you were banned, you can still log on and your status will become "frozen").

If the above stories were true, I think it is most likely that Blizzard had a database error. I guess we can only wait and see LOL

---------
Update:
Now there are people recording stats of how many players been banned, and how many are not.

this one is made by Joeman, a commentator in Taiwan:
http://goo.gl/2oKWi
Red is banned, Blue is safe not banned.
This document updates every 5 minutes.

Now is like 39.36% of people has been banned...

There is a poll being held in Taiwan, because of so many people being banned,
Currently 714 people has answered the poll,
281 got banned, 39.36% of total
463 uses RC, 64.85% of total

For those who got banned:
253 are using RC, 90.04% of those being banned

For those who use RC:
253 are banned, 54.64% of those using RC.

---------
Update:

This is silly,
someone got banned and opened the mail sent by Blizzard,
and this what he saw:
http://i.imgur.com/8UUlE.jpg

Battle.net Account: JEFF*****@yahoo.com.tw
Player ID:
Punishment: Banned Forever
Reason: Third party Program

1. Look at below, his account is a*********@hotmail.com,
JEFF*****@yahoo.com.tw is not his account.
2. The Player ID is blank.
3. The owner of this Email said he didn't use any third party programs.

This is getting hilarious.

Update:

Another screen shot by the same user:

Origination: In game activity
Type of ban: Violation of User treaty
Ban end date: 2011/7/16
Reason of ban: NON

Being banned for no reason.....

Another guy with the same result:

Another guy in NA server, this is in English:

Update:
Breaking NEWS!!

People in Taiwan just got their Accounts back!! :D

---------
Update:

A letter from Blizzard:

Greetings,

Recently, a StarCraft II account under your Battle.net account was actioned
for potential violations of our Terms of Use. Upon further review of the
action taken upon this account, we reversed the action previously applied.

Reason for Action: Use of 3rd Party Programs
Previous Account Action: Closure
New Account action: Warning

Please note that while the action has been overturned, we still urge users to
be cautious when utilizing any sort of 3rd party program that may interact
with StarCraft II. Any modification of the executable or the way it runs is
in direct violation of the Battle.net Terms of Use.

In the end, we want Battle.net to be a fun and safe environment for all
players. It is to this end that we enforce our Battle.net Terms of Use and
In-Game Policies (http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/SC2policies

lol, welcome to the corporate face. I told u guys theey'd do us like this.

here's their canned response, which Im guessing all people that called to overturn ti got "After thorough investigation, we decided the course of action we took was legit". Right?

Because they don't. they just ignore it and reply with that e-mail so you will go away.

They don't want to admit fault.

Did you even read the post you quoted? The overturned the ban.

As unreasonable as it sounds, Blizzard has the full rights to do whatever they just did.
You all have signed the agreement when opening that battle.net account, So respect their authority!

You talk like if somewhere in the User licence it said your soul will be theirs, and that you'll have to work for them after you turn 18, for free, it gives them full rights to go ahead and actually do it.

I'm sure that is in the EULA, but I bet you didn't read it, so...
Although I think a lot of ppl don't mind working for Blizzard, for free.

My point is that just because it's in the EULA doesn't give them the right to do it. Just because you agreed doesn't mean they can do it.

It's like signing an EULA agreeing that Blizzard can kill you... just because it's in the EULA and you agreed doesn't mean they have the right to do it.

I didnt believe you so I googled it and well... you are right about the beach orgy

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/291220/mass-beach-orgy-stirs-taiwan-police

lol

TL:DR;

"A suspected beach orgy involving 21 adults, most of them over 40, has shocked a quiet village on the palm-studded coast of south Taiwan, sparked massive media coverage and now a police investigation."

Uh oh, I hope this gets solved soon, getting banned for no reason really sucks. (Happened to me on WoW), took weeks for me to get my account back but I quit anyways.

Reading the thread title at first made me imagine a huge crowd of people running around Taiwan buying SC2 games to get onto the KR server.

quit WoW? Best decision ever.

on a more serious note, I hope this all gets worked out.

This just kind of feels like an extremely assholeish post to me (even though I'm sure you were just trying to raise a point about how many people would be affected/complaining)
