At the same time though, I think it's a great idea, a lot of people will be able to see the best of the best! Does anyone know if a tournament like Blizzard had last year will also be played? Or is it just GSL finals now?

I've had a season pass to every gsl event, and now, to learn that a GSL finals will be so close to me, and that I still can't go because I didn't get blizzcon tickets makes me very sad. D: We're not really being pessimistic about it, just sad ^ And your second point was pretty good about the exposure of top talent to the other crowds.

http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/3076893 We’re pleased to announce that the Global Battle.net Invitational and GSL October Final are both set to take place live during BlizzCon Friday, October 21, 2011 and October 22, 2011. Top competitors from all over the world will take to the stage in front of a sold-out crowd and put their skills to the test for a combined prize pool of nearly $300,000 USD. Whether you’re attending BlizzCon in person or from the comfort of your own home, you’ll be able to catch all of the action and root for your favorite players. That amount is insane. I know it's combined amount for both 2 tournaments, but.. still.

Will there be any way for people who don't have a blizzcon ticket to only go attend the tournament?

I don't know, from the Blizzcon I went to and from what i've seen of others, there really are enough people packed into that convention center. More might be too much and make just being their uncomfortable, plus fire codes, etc...

Now the foundation has been laid for a huge splash in the community, make sure streams are good and don't die, and try to get some seperate GSL Finals tickets or something and this will be perfect. At least what I can think of from the top of my head.
