During 2010 GSL Open Season 3 김남규 Kim Nam Gyu (aka Bitbybit) was the best player in the world. Not only he was able to advance to the round of 16 in one try, he dominated his zerg opponents in ways that haven't been seen for the Terran races.
His career when into a shape decline after getting defeat by fruitdealer in the round of 16. He eventually left the team prime and quit esport. But no one can erase the legacy he left behind. Many new viewers of GSL often wonder who the hell is "Bitbybiiiit", when SCVs are pull off the line. Now months has passed since GSL open season 3, cheeses has been replaced (but will never be completely), I think it's time to remind people of the greatest macro player ever exists in SC2.

The King of SCVs All In
The central principle that all of the maneuvering tactics are based around is simply having more, properly placed units at the right place at the right time. Despite being almost always outnumbered, Bitbybit generally had the upper hand when the two sides came to a clash. By keeping this principle in mind at all times, it will be much easier to understand just how his tactics work.
The point here is to focus on the marine SCVs themselves. No one tactic is as good as the marine SCVs all in, for different situations call for different cheeses and the number of possibilities are only limited by the number of SCVs. Preparing for every conceivable plan and movement his opponents could throw at him was impractical. Rather, Bitbybit could instantaneously choose to all in in any unforeseen situations.
What seems to be the biggest fail baneling bomb by Moon, actually displays the brilliance of Bitbybit. How did he turn a simple move out to triggering the worst baneling landmine in GSL's history?
By stiming his 2 marines to scout, BBB begins to notice the slight change in the terrain of the map cause by burrowed banelings.
Yet another displays of BBBs genius. In a split second, he is able to determine the path to avoid the damage of banelings without vision. By using the 2 marines, he traces a almost perfect path.
Moving this army in between the burrowed banelings like a pro We all know what happens next
The Legacy Many of his fans were devestated when they learnt the news of retirement of Bitbybit. Through he never won a GSL title, his strategy helps many bronze players in ladder and many pros are able to make it far into tournaments because of him. + Show Spoiler +
Very nic article , but i personaly hate terran all in vs zerg ( zerg player) I dont say its easy to do .. but FOR SURE its easyer to make allin then def it..
I laughed my head off. BitbyBit was really funny to watch. However, the NA scene has it's own BitbyBit in SCDPride. One base hero and wins a lot of game with incredibly creative strategies along with the simple marine/scv all in.
By the way bomber learned a lot from him. Do you remember what does bomber do versus moon in this first match versus moon at dreamhack ? ... No, not a svc all-in ... A 2 port banshee !
But it was bitbybit that gave him this idea, because he killed moon with 2 port banshee (in transition after a svc all-in ok....)
I watched again all his matches not that long ago, and it is kinda epic. The funny thing is the fact that he could have been still in code A in march if he had focus fired the banelings with his marines in the last set vs moon.
I think he have been the greatest troll in sc2 history, and is a legend, proving that skill is not necessary to win in sc2.
Thanks for writing lol, sad to see he retired o.o Was he new to esports (no BW?). It makes sense if he planned from the start just to focus on early game cheese/all-in just to see if he could make some quick easy money and then just retire if it didn't work as well anymore.
I thought you were going to list the most successful all in players so far or something, not just attempt to troll everyone with a random noob >.> sc2, how disappointing...
I am a huge fan of BitByBit (seriously). I was playing random and I picked terran partially because of him because on warcraft 3 (my older game) I was playing Night elf and as NE you don't have allins/cheese so I wanted to be able to cheese/allin my opponents in sc2
Unfortunetly after multiple nerfs it appears that terran is the worst race for cheese/allins but I'd love to see bitbybit find more cheeses.

Part 2 will be the original article of theBest and Rain. We will go in deeper into BBB's legacy and his successors. theBest Banshee builds.
How are the All-ins better when the maps are bigger. If anything, good players will have the xel'naga and see it coming and be able to prepare accordingly. Then what? He's screwed because all-in means that you have nothing to fall back on. Bitbybit is kind of a joke to be honest.

Go read the FE about Saviour (go read it now, it's quite good and I'll wait).

I can't wait for TheBestfOu's article, so many jokes waiting to happen.
Every time a terran tries to marine SCV all in me, I hear Artosis screaming "BIIIIT BYYY BIIIT" in my head. He was definitely an entertaining part of the GSL ^^

He's not featured, but he streams a lot and is very mannered. It's not the personality I expected and it's quite endearing that someone is trying to do... legit cheese? lol :-)
i've always wondered about him, does bitbybit know about his legacy? does he he still play at all after leaving prime? do korean fans think of him in the same as we do on TL?
I remember one of his matches against a protoss(can't remember who it was) and he threw down a factory,Artosis was like:"Oh my God.Tastless, are we going to see a macro game off bitbybit?". And than the starport goes down with a tech lab. Artosis:"Oh never mind, its a Raven allin." Tastless:"Well at least the guy is expanding his allin repertoire."
It's great to see players like bitbybit. Honestly I think all-ins add flavor to the game and makes the game exciting for someone new (Quick games with action)

You know what? Bitbybit must be a champion at those bound maps.
BitByBit is truly a legend. I've used one of his builds for great success actually.
4 Terrans in 4v4 going 3 rax allin with supply drop -> straight to masters np.
I admire him for playing through the most boring and easy strats possible and still keep focus and stay motivated to play on. I couldn't last more than an hour playing his style before I had to change it up. It was simply too boring.

there's been a zerg using the account sinabroprime to play in the iem qualifiers, and sinabro was one of the accounts bitbybit used before... hmmm

I think the greatest part about bit-by-bit was how hard Artosis would rip on him, while casting BBB's matches. I still remember Artosis's long moans of "ohhhhhhhh mannnn" and Tasteless's infectious laugh. Bit-by-Bit was perfect example of "that guy". A bit by bit meme would be "the least interesting man in the room". You have to admit though, players like him do make for exciting, tense matches (even if they rarely break the 10 minute mark!).
I dont understand all the hate on him honestly. Yeah he cheesed, so what? He won games. Timing attacks do the same shit. A win is a win regardless of how you get it.
Although he doesn't have an outstanding achievement, he is the only sc2 player that multiple actions (all the scv pulls) are named after him lol. That's why he is so awesome.
Awesome thread, I have several chuckles and quite a few laughs while reading this. I think BitByBit was really important to the scene in showing the strength of the marine and also in a way, the way terrans can defend early pressure (by pulling scvs).
