During 2010 GSL Open Season 3 김남규 Kim Nam Gyu (aka Bitbybit) was the best player in the world. Not only he was able to advance to the round of 16 in one try, he dominated his zerg opponents in ways that haven't been seen for the Terran races.

His career when into a shape decline after getting defeat by fruitdealer in the round of 16. He eventually left the team prime and quit esport. But no one can erase the legacy he left behind. Many new viewers of GSL often wonder who the hell is "Bitbybiiiit", when SCVs are pull off the line. Now months has passed since GSL open season 3, cheeses has been replaced (but will never be completely), I think it's time to remind people of the greatest macro player ever exists in SC2.

The central principle that all of the maneuvering tactics are based around is simply having more, properly placed units at the right place at the right time. Despite being almost always outnumbered, Bitbybit generally had the upper hand when the two sides came to a clash. By keeping this principle in mind at all times, it will be much easier to understand just how his tactics work.

The point here is to focus on the marine SCVs themselves. No one tactic is as good as the marine SCVs all in, for different situations call for different cheeses and the number of possibilities are only limited by the number of SCVs. Preparing for every conceivable plan and movement his opponents could throw at him was impractical. Rather, Bitbybit could instantaneously choose to all in in any unforeseen situations.

Game analysis: Moon vs Bitbybit
[image loading]

What seems to be the biggest fail baneling bomb by Moon, actually displays the brilliance of Bitbybit. How did he turn a simple move out to triggering the worst baneling landmine in GSL's history?

By stiming his 2 marines to scout, BBB begins to notice the slight change in the terrain of the map cause by burrowed banelings.

Yet another displays of BBBs genius. In a split second, he is able to determine the path to avoid the damage of banelings without vision. By using the 2 marines, he traces a almost perfect path.

We all know what happens next

The Legacy
Many of his fans were devestated when they learnt the news of retirement of Bitbybit. Through he never won a GSL title, his strategy helps many bronze players in ladder and many pros are able to make it far into tournaments because of him.

Without Bitbybit SC2 is never the same.

He makes me sick...

On a more positive note, pretty nice little article you got here. I was never a fan of Bit at all, but i guess he did have some.

I laughed my head off. BitbyBit was really funny to watch. However, the NA scene has it's own BitbyBit in SCDPride. One base hero and wins a lot of game with incredibly creative strategies along with the simple marine/scv all in.

How come Nestea is not listed in the victims? I thought he lost to Bitbybit as well? Or was it Rain?

Funny article though ^^

By the way bomber learned a lot from him. Do you remember what does bomber do versus moon in this first match versus moon at dreamhack ?
...
No, not a svc all-in
...
A 2 port banshee !

But it was bitbybit that gave him this idea, because he killed moon with 2 port banshee (in transition after a svc all-in ok....)

I watched again all his matches not that long ago, and it is kinda epic. The funny thing is the fact that he could have been still in code A in march if he had focus fired the banelings with his marines in the last set vs moon.

I think he have been the greatest troll in sc2 history, and is a legend, proving that skill is not necessary to win in sc2.
