The players not picked can still elect to go, but won't have their trip paid for. That the only players that can take advantage of the automatic placement into the GSL via MLG are non-Koreans. I am fairly certain that this was the case when the arrangement between the leagues originally happened. I am just unsure if it is still the case, since there are a few people in this thread stating that is is a way for MMA or Boxer to get back into code A or S.

does GSL own these players or something? how is it up to GSL to decide who does and doesnt go? I think they are (MLG and GSL) putting up the money to get the players here, so in that regard they have some choice of who they are sending and seeding into the tournament. I don't see any reason why any other Korean players couldn't come play if they got over here, they'd just go through the open bracket though. But if MLG and GSL are going to put up the money and the tournament is going to give them an advantageous seed I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be picking the players. They want not only good players but ones that will bring the fans because after all it is about money. Having Boxer will bring in the viewers more than pretty much any player so that is an obvious choice, along with bringing back the player that won it to defend. I think the timing of this is perfect for Boxer. The support he gets at MLG will be insane, and after the recent criticisms coming at him from within Korea it should be a great pick up.

AFAIK the rules always were 3 Code A spots open only to non-Koreans and 1 Code S spot open to any non-Code-S player (Only applies to MLGs after Columbus).

They can get into Code S if they win, but not Code A. Winner of MLG (korean or non korean) gets a code S spot. Next 3 (not invited korean, don't know how it is if someone paid for their own trip to go through open bracket) that accept get a code A invite.

How would that be sorted out when a bunch of koreans want to go with only 4 spots? maybe people didnt understand what i was saying. why should the players decide? are you crazy? i know this is their life - for most of them - but the way its worded is like GSL saying 'youre going and thats that' fair enough if GSL are paying for it but that doesnt mean that the players should just drop everything and go? all i meant was, do the players actually get any kind of say in the matter?

Obviously they can't force the players to go against their will. Not even Kespa could pull that shit (maybe).

Of course, if they don't want to go they don't go and the invite is given to someone else. I reckon they discussed a lot, invited the players, and then when they got a confirmation they announced it. Anything else would be stupid.
