Ahh well that's a relief. I'm totally more about MMR.

ladder breaking every night now?
|
every night when i get on and have time to play, the ladder is broken. 3 times in a row now.
|
I think promotion/demotion may be broken as well because i've been top 5 plat for 2 weeks now and beating top 8 diamond and haven't been promoted.
Has anyone been promoted since the ladder started acting up?
|
im like #1 d in my division, have been for a while and have been playing mostly 1200 point masters players for a week or two. i dunno if it's broken or if i just played too many games terribly before.

I played and beat Masters 1200 or so people for a few weeks until I got promoted, it might not be because of a possible ladder lock. A friend of mine got promoted to diamond last night or the night before.

so when this is all going on MMR is unaffected? just there might b a semi lock on promotions?

Blizzard said that MMR is still updating. The points are not. Please read previous comments because I believe this is at least the 3rd or 4th time this has been asked.
We're unsure if promotions are still happening.

Has anyone been promoted since the ladder started acting up? it was locked for a while, i got promoted when it unlocked like 1-2v ago. top 5 plat and top 8 diamond really says nothing. ranks don't mean anything at all. ladder could be locked tho, i dont know.

You guys know that, regardless of what happens during ladder buggy-ness, they'll always say MMR isn't affected. Do you know why?
1) If they admitted that points, promotions, and MMR were all affected, people would just stop playing the ladder en-masse. Not only does it look bad, but it would cause major problems with the match-making system giving a bad experience to potential new players or might cause existing players to not recommend it to friends.
2) We have no way of verifying.
Just like when the ladder was locked last time after they supposedly "fixed" it, so many people just assume what Blizzard is saying is correct and honest. They're going to protect their business image first every time.

Sad but true. If only Blizzard understood that if the community was appeased they'd make more money than they ever could by ruining all their good games with crappy support.

MMR will of course work, it's predicated on the wins you get and your opponents' MMR... As long as those variables remain, it doesn't matter if the ladder points and promotions don't update.

More proof that MMR is most likely affected:
There are multiple reports of placement matches not putting people in leagues after playing their 5 matches. As far as we know, MMR gained/lost by playing these determines placement.

Great, yet another reason for me not to ladder. i thought they had staff for Starcraft 2, blizz stealing my ladder points again!

Also true, but good god, man, it's "affected." Sorry, hurts to look at it spelled wrong because I'm stupid by most standards The effect of which directly affects my own self image!
I see what I did there.

So it seems MMR is affected then. Time to worker rush every game!!!!..... But I'd rather not .

Of course MMR is working because people are reporting they're getting promoted during the point bug. Some skepticism is appreciated but the Bnet forums (as well as TL to a lesser extent) practically erupt when something like this happens, and people are generally eager to find out what exactly is broken and what still works. I saw no less than 5 threads on the Bnet forums full of "are promotions working?" "I haven't been promoted I played X games" "I got promoted yesterday and today" "I got promoted just a few hours ago so I guess it works" etc etc etc.
|
I was earning points earlier today, got promoted, then all of a sudden stopped earning points. This is roughly an hour ago so yes I think its still very buggy.
|
Exal - Just curious then, why would placement matches be broken? In theory it should rely on the same mechanic...no need to make a whole different system just for placement.
To me it feels like the same as the last "stealth ladder lock". If some people are being promoted and some not, then something is wrong with the MMR/promotion system.
How many pages/threads did the official forums and this site finally have on it before you finally got Blizz to acknowledge there was an issue last time? (and they didn't even publicly admit it....the only way we knew for sure was because you told us)
