Oh man, Scoots digging into Slasher starting at 1:59. Priceless. Glad someone is calling out Slasher on his "Stephano->EG pretty much 100%" article without confirmation from the team or the player. Great episode as always gentlemen!

So you are okay with official announcements only? Slasher should quit his job right there if it was by your rules.

When reporting on eSports, I look to traditional Sports media as my examples rather than non-sports journalism. Sports media traditionally, in all sports both US and Worldwide, use anonymous sources to verify trades and player signings. This includes all major media outlets a la ESPN, CBS Sports, FOX Sports, etc. When I have the opportunity to write 'a team executive', I do, and although still anonymous, an 'executive' is not a low level position, it is someone with authority within the organization. You can see this type of reporting throughout the sports sphere on a daily basis both on their sites, and through their Twitter's. I have also discussed eSports reporting of this same nature with friends of mine from ESPN and CBS Sports, and have found this to be of sound nature. I also stand by my sources at all times. If things go wrong, I will gladly take the heat, as it only hurts my reputation, and my outlet's reputation.

He's one of them EG and he is probably leveraging his "this isn't certain yet" point on a somewhat uneducated audience.
This is what it sounds like at least, I haven't listened to the show yet.

I think the point Scoots was trying to make is that we have plenty of tabloid journalists in the world of professional gaming. He believes Slasher should hold himself to a higher standard because he is in a good position to do so. At least thats what I got from it.

I thought scoots just wanted to know who was the credible source. Although asking for Slasher for the source while on the air is kind of unreasonable. In sports the anonymous sources happen although sometimes they say the position in sports talk shows or in articles sometimes. Saying automatically Stephano is going to join EG after saying he wont resign with his team really does put his credibility on the line.
wait what

anonymous sources isn't tabloid journalism. journalism as an industry is heavily dependent on people speaking anonymously. asking someone to reveal their source is asking the journalist to commit a heavy breach of trust to the source. you think if slasher gave up his sources anyone would tell him anything? nope. so what good is slasher then? what scoots was asking was unreasonable, and another case of EG being locked into their own perspective without seeing the bigger picture.

did we watch the same show?
Scoots just didn't like that Slasher said that Stephano is 100% going to EG (done deal), instead of Stephano is 99% going to EG, because EG nor Stephano didn't tell him. I don't think Scoots was even interested in who this source really is.

While I accept the need to keep sources secret Scoot's arguement was that Slasher's source could not have "known" as they were not a directly involved party. This mysterious "team executive" source, is in fact, a competitor to EG. Is it really responsible to use a competitors hearsay?

I wrote that in the other thread, and I'm really glad you've echoed it.

However, anonymous sources should be avoided at all costs. That traditional sports journalists do it isn't a good enough selling point to me; people like Peter King also spend thousands of words talking about coffee, football and 'that thing they read in the New York Times' in what's ostensibly a football piece. Their use basically comes down to the writer saying 'trust me'. And yeah, I trust you, but I'd trust you more if I knew who was so adamant that this was happening. That's especially true since (apparently) it wasn't anyone affiliated with the player or with EG.

I don't know. It's not like this is a particularly big deal in the long run. We're not talking about outing undercover agents or infiltrating the Mafia or anything. I just hope journalists press their sources for identification unless there's a really, really good reason not to. Not wanting to be embarrassed isn't a good enough reason to my mind.

Hey i just watched some VODs and i came to Live on Three 127 i was wondering if anybody new the first song before the real talking begins? I realised that it was Cobra Starship - You make me feel. But i can't find the remix since it is a remix of the song. Thanks.

I was also interested by the argument between Slasher and Scoots, but there is one point that surprises me.
Sirscoots said that this announcement benefits reddit and TL the most but I think it benefits EG the most. Everyone is talking about EG and Stephano and if
1) Stephano goes to EG and EG couldn't state it before september, then it's nice for them since everyone is talking about them.
2) Stephano does not go to EG. It is still nice for them since everyone talk about them about since they officially tried their best not to say anything their image is preserved.

In fact it would have been smart for EG to "leak" this information to create a big buzz around them!

Why is LO3 on and no one talking about it on this topic?
You should not have to pay to watch the GSL, Proleague, or OSL at a reasonable time. That is not "fine" and it's BS to say otherwise. My sig since 2011. http://www.youtube.com/user/dabom88

Because it's not as much about SC2 so nobody on TL cares, unfortunately.
