Glad someone is calling out Slasher on his "Stephano->EG pretty much 100%" article without confirmation from the team or the player. Great episode as always gentlemen! Wheat bustin out the popcorn hahaha So you are okay with official announcements only? Slasher should quit his job right there if it was by your rules.

You can see this type of reporting throughout the sports sphere on a daily basis both on their sites, and through their Twitter's. I have also discussed eSports reporting of this same nature with friends of mine from ESPN and CBS Sports, and have found this to be of sound nature. I also stand by my sources at all times. If things go wrong, I will gladly take the heat, as it only hurts my reputation, and my outlet's reputation. i agree, this is so unbelievably standard par for the course in sports journalism that i'm surprised scoots got as salty as he did over it

This is what it sounds like at least, I haven't listened to the show yet.

He believes Slasher should hold himself to a higher standard because he is in a good position to do so. At least thats what I got from it.

At least thats what I got from it. anonymous sources isn't tabloid journalism. journalism as an industry is heavily dependent on people speaking anonymously. asking someone to reveal their source is asking the journalist to commit a heavy breach of trust to the source. you think if slasher gave up his sources anyone would tell him anything? nope. so what good is slasher then? what scoots was asking was unreasonable, and another case of EG being locked into their own perspective without seeing the bigger picture.

Scoots just didn't like that Slasher said that Stephano is 100% going to EG (done deal), instead of Stephano is 99% going to EG, because EG nor Stephano didn't tell him. I don't think Scoots was even interested in who this source really is.

While I accept the need to keep sources secret Scoot's arguement was that Slasher's source could not have "known" as they were not a directly involved party. This mysterious "team executive" source, is in fact, a competitor to EG. Is it really responsible to use a competitors hearsay?

However, anonymous sources should be avoided at all costs. That traditional sports journalists do it isn't a good enough selling point to me; people like Peter King also spend thousands of words talking about coffee, football and 'that thing they read in the New York Times' in what's ostensibly a football piece. Their use basically comes down to the writer saying 'trust me'. And yeah, I trust you, but I'd trust you more if I knew who was so adamant that this was happening. That's especially true since (apparently) it wasn't anyone affiliated with the player or with EG. I don't know. It's not like this is a particularly big deal in the long run. We're not talking about outing undercover agents or infiltrating the Mafia or anything. I just hope journalists press their sources for identification unless there's a really, really good reason not to. Not wanting to be embarrassed isn't a good enough reason to my mind.

Sirscoots said that this announcement benefits reddit and TL the most but I think it benefits EG the most. Everyone is talking about EG and Stephano and if 1) Stephano goes to EG and EG couldn't state it before september, then it's nice for them since everyone is talking about them. 2) Stephano does not go to EG. It is still nice for them since everyone talk about them about since they officially tried their best not to say anything their image is preserved. In fact it would have been smart for EG to "leak" this information to create a big buzz around them!
