What is this? This is your SC2NewSCast and it is a 2-5 minute daily podcast/blog post recapping the day in StarCraft 2. We have been live since May now and I think it is finally to a place where I am ready to show people and get feedback.
Where can I find this? You can currently find the posts at sc2newscast.com. I am hosting the podcast on Podbean, but posting everything at sc2newscast.com. Click the title of each post to reach the podcast. We are also listed on iTunes. See below where I will post all important links.
When are posts made? New posts are made Wed-Sun (The morning after), usually by 5AM PST for the morning warriors. On Tuesdays I am doing a show called "The Weekly Edit" which will be 15-30 minutes. Those can be found on blip.tv/sc2newscast.
Any fees or subscription costs? Heck no! It is free and I hope to always keep it that way as the overhead is very minimal and I just love the chance to reach out to the community. If you want to help, click my ad links or purchase stuff through my A-Store.
Who are you? + Show Spoiler +I am TheAmazombie. I am a low level player, but huge fan of the community and tournament scene. I was trying to think of a way to give something back and this is what I came up with. I was getting annoyed flipping through tons of posts just to just find the scores and bracket info as well as player news for all of the content that is out there. So the idea came to me, being a baseball fan, that I wished there was something like sports radio where at the top of the hour they give a 5 minute recap of all of the scores. So yes, there are spoilers here, so if you do not want to know the results, don't tune in. I am currently a Silver league player, but I play mostly custom games with friends who are plat/diam level. I play mostly Zerg, some Terran, and once in awhile you will find me playing Protoss. Ping me if you are interested in a game! Email sc2newscast.com for feedback.

Updates: Updates for 21-Jan-12:
Hey guys, the NewSCast is coming along nicely, we are slowly growing and expanding. The next two Weekly Edits are both booked with guests. On Monday, the 23rd we will have a couple ESV Map Makers on the show for a bit of a mapping roundtable discusion and to talk the state of maps in SC2 today.
On Tuesday, the 31st we will have Mary Ratliff back on the show to discuss Korea and the state of her movie Good Game.
Thanks guys!

I just want to thank the people that are listening. I know that I have some who get the RSS feeds, so I hope that some of you find what I do helpful. Please feel free to email, PM, or post feedback here. Thanks!

I think this is a great idea and I can see it taking it off.
It is such a pain, even with TeamLiquid, to find the scores, especially after a few days when the threads get buried.
I think what would be great is to have a section for each major tournament, or tag each post with the relevant tournament name tag, so a post on today's GSL results would get a tag labelled GSL June or whatever.
If you're strictly sticking to scores, then I feel 3-5 minutes is pretty neat, but if you're also mentioning things like who so and so's next match is up against or how a certain result affects the competition or pool play, a podcast of up to 10 minutes will work also.
I guess if i was going to embark on what you're doing, I'd try to keep it as short and sweet as possible so you hold peoples attention for duration of the show.

Yeah, that was the entire base of the idea. The only issue now that I am running into is that there is SOOOO much news and content that I have to be picky and skim stuff that I think may be important. Oh well, you are never going to be able to please everyone and get everything you want.
I am also toying with the idea of casting and maybe posting a weekly cast as well, but I want to do something different instead of normal casting, I just can not decide on what to do with that.
|
Thanks everyone for the support. I have just started playing with casting to add some more content. I just casted a small game game between the trolls Deezer and SCDPride. I am still playing with the levels and everything so it is kind of raw.
Thanks to the community for all of the support on this project.

I've listened to a couple of your pods and I am really looking forward to your next one where you talk about TPW maps!

Thanks man. I am planning to talk about maps and mapmaking in general on the next Weekly Edit. It will go live on Tuesday.

Your bliptv doesn't work btw ^^

Hmm...it is working perfectly for me...I will check everything to confirm.

Okay well the link itself doesn't work, I have to connect through your blog, which works fine.

I just listened your latest one. Good voice (but most of Americans do have good casting voice), but try to be more "optimistic" because it sounds rather boring? I hope you don't get me wrong, just try to listen to those guys over CNN, BBC - they are more "passionate" or at least try to sounds like that.
Other than that podcasts like that are useful. If you make daily podcasts besides news, you can add more about the tournament results, live Internet shows etc. Just couple of ideas.
I def. will be listening Keep up the good job.

Thanks man. Yeah, I have been working on the voice some, playing with a few things, but it is always hard to change the way you talk. I appreciate you checking things out though. I do the Weekly Edit cast on Tuesdays where I editorialize and talk about other stuff, don't know if anyone cares about my opinions, but whatever. I do this for fun and out of love for the scene. Thanks again!
EDIT: Also, I wish that I could get more excited as a whole, but I record this early morning while my 2 year old son is sleeping on the other side of the wall, and if you have a 2 year old son you know that every second they are asleep is something to cherish. =)
|
Oh... so i'll be waiting till Thursday to check it out. I believe it's always good to have some kind of an impact on any esports scene. Coz you never know... with hard work you can go big one day.

Yeah I mean I don't have a kid myself, but I think I understand :D

I really like this. I'll definitely be listening in the future.

btw: are you doing this weekly edit live?

Thanks a ton.
On July 24 2011 17:39 espMisio wrote: btw: are you doing this weekly edit live?
Not yet. I am doing it as a VOD on blip, but I want to start streaming live sometime in the near future. Because of the way that my house is set up currently, I am running wirelessly and my upload speed is reduced. The only way to fix this is to either run a long cable across my house or redo the cat5 in my walls. I am planning on doing this soon though. I am a network tech at work, so it is not hard to do for me at all. I am just a tall ogre and getting under my house is not an easy task for a guy my size. =) I will try though soon.
|
Love it! Fantastic idea, I'll be downloading it every morning :D

is there any way we can help you out man? Do we have to register somewhere or "like" you on fb etc.?

If you would like to. I have a facebook for it, but I rarely update it. There is a twitter feed that I use occasionally. Do whatever you would like. I appreciate the support a ton. Thanks!
|
So you are like SCCenter? If you have MP3s I will d/l I can listen on the way to and from work.
|
I did subscribe on facebook. My advice - use it. FB is such a great tool to gather the community together. Easy to update and to receive instant response from the subscribers.

Yeah, we do mp3s by clicking on the title of each post. This past week my podcasting has been very limited, so I have not been able to do the mp3s, but they will start again in a few days. Also, the newest episode of the weekly edit is up at the site or the blip archives. We had IronManSC of The Planetarty Workshop as a guest.
Thanks for the support!

Hey thanks man. He is a nice guy and has some interesting insight into the scene. I did not realize before talking to him that he was not a film student or anything before and that this is 100% a project of passion and love for him. I dig that.

Amazombie i've been watching your weekly's and reading up on your blogs, and I really hope you draw more fans and attention! You really stay up to date on the SC2 scene, and I personally appreciate all your hard work! Great job keep it up

I will be closing this next Tuesday (Oct 4th) and announcing the winner at that time. Also, next Week we are going to have Mary Ratcliffe from the documentary "Good Game" on the show for an interview. I am looking forward to that. We will also be giving away another GG button next week but with a different stipulation. Thanks!

Also, we are having video issues with this week's Edit...I attempted to stream live and that failed. The audio is perfect, but the video is quite laggy. I hope to have this remedied by next week. Thanks!

Just wondering if you would name your titles for the casts differently. That way it regards to the topic so when people see it on their feeds they could see the topic instead of the date, etc.

I could, but please, what would you suggest? Most days the news feed is the same topics, scores and player news, so I thought that the date would be best, but I do understand the concern. I know when I look at it in my feed, sometimes the date trails off outside the normal feed.
What about something simpler like "30-Sept-11 NewSCast" or something with a quick blurb of the news maybe? I am open to ideas on this. Thanks guys!

Hey, listened to the last cast thanks to this thread (in fact, I'm listening it right now) and I like it ! good job, I'll go listen some archive after that

Awesome, thanks man. I am still playing with things, trying to get the live stream up, and fighting for guests and interesting things to talk about. For those who know me, I am a very opinionated person and doing something like a news cast is cool, but I had to create an outlet to bitch and be a fanboy as well. I know production is not top notch or anything, but hopefully I have some interesting guests and some interesting thoughts on topics.
Also, MrCon, love the Live Report threads! Thanks for effort to the community.

Update, 16-Oct-11: Hey guys, sorry for a bit of inconsistency in the recordings recently. The reason for this is the take-over of my office yet again. Just a quick note: the reason this has been happening every few weeks or so for a few days is that I have family moving into the area, so every few weeks they move some stuff up and take over my office. This added to mandatory overtime at my actual job and I am swamped. I am trying though when I can as I love doing the podcast and stream.
It should not happen too terribly much longer though, so I hope to get back to consistent posts and streams. I will be taking some vacation in November and December as well, so please be patient through this time of year. Also, we will be doing another GG Button Giveaway soon. Like us on Facebook for more information as that comes around. Thanks!

Update: 10-Nov-2011 Hey everyone, just wanted to do a quick update: First of all, the twitchtv stream is live. I am streaming both the NewSCast and the Weekly Edit and I am always in the chat while doing so as well. Also, I have started a Google+ page to go along with the Facebook page. I will be trying to update the posts there as well. I know I do not get a ton of feedback, but I know the listeners are out there, so I just wanted to thank everyone for checking it out. Please remember to leave comments/ideas/suggestions here or on the site. I always look into every idea. Also, one last thing, congrats to our friend of the show, IronManSC from TPW on one of his maps getting chosen for the TL MapMaking contest finalist. I hope to have him back on soon and do another episode about community maps in the near future.
|
I watched your last two live streams and I got a real kick out of it. You've made some great improvements, and I dearly hope you get more viewers. You need it!

Hey, thanks man. It was good to have you on the show again. I am always interested in the community map making teams like TPW and ESV. I dig it.
Update: Hey guys, also I have a couple of updates. I finally got the cross-posting fixed between the blip site and the youtube site, so now all Weekly Edits will be watchable and distributed on youtube as well as blip. The youtube site is just youtube.com/sc2newscast.
I am also working on a special end-of-year project that I am calling the "Silver MULE Awards" which is awarded in 20 topics: + Show Spoiler +![[image loading]](http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bcJPmyVxnoA/TtduuBFKj9I/AAAAAAAAAJs/DzYvUfsp2CY/s200/SilverMULE.jpg) 2011 Silver MULE Awards: Player of the Year: Best Single Series of the Year: Team of the Year: Underdog of the Year: Best Pick-up: Best Ladder Map: Best Terran: Best Zerg: Best Protoss: Best Random: Most Innovative Player(s): Best Tournament League: Best Single Event (LAN): Best Single Event (Online): Best Community-Driven Project: ShoutCaster of the Year: Best SC2 Related Show or Series: Best Live/Stream Production: Best Community 1v1 Melee Map: Map-Maker(s) of the Year:
So hopefully that will be a fun little thing to do. I will make special episodes to go along with the winners. Feel free to comment on the site or this thread as to your opinions for topic winners. We already have ours chosen and will be announcing soon, so feel free to let me know what you think. Thanks!
