This will be a 100% showing from teamliquid, they better win or place high.

edit: Or haypro is perhaps still a unknown. TLO, Tyler, Huk, Jinro and Ret will be there tho.

ThorZaiN will go prepare for every possible outcome and come out as number #1! Would be really cool, even thought I was rooting for Naniwa in the TSL finals I want to see a rematch of these two guys ^_^

Great invites!

Looking at the invites so far, it seems they're applying the Max 3 persons per team thing to the invites. Real shame.

Bit of NA representation couldn't hurt indeed. Select, Kiwi and maybe a few charity invites for hyping!

Sick line-up already tho, just wish some of the IM koreans came over!

I completely agree. I mean whats up with all the attention that guy gets for taking out 2 GSL champions, the previous TSL champion, an amazing TvT player and a guy who had like a 33 game win streak in a single tournament? Clearly an overrated player.

Nah Liquid already has 4 players in it

I hope Liquid finally does well again although this line up looks scarier than something like MLG
Also glad that Stephano got an invite, very strong player. Now we just need Morrow and Nerchio so that for once europe has decent zerg representation
And of course haypro if he for once decides to show what hes capable of :p

This, I heard from him BEFORE TSL, but he didnt have any good results that I recognized.
Furthermore, he take a HUGE advantage from long prep with builds etc, not THAT good in a cup system.

Just my opinion

Some people are rating Thorzain above MC and Naniwa, he's clearly very overrated on Team Liquid.

If this was BW you would be correct... also whats up with people saying thorzain overrated? he couldnt go to many LANs with Prae because believe it or not its expensive to travel to tournaments, and daily cups take all day and are a waste of time usually.

He beat them fair and square in Bo5s/Bo7s so I dont see anything wrong with that, even though I personally agree that MC and naniwa are generally better players and a lot more accomplished. Either way this is pretty damn derailing

Tell me, where did Idra excel at? Hes widely considered the best foreign player yet i fail to see results to confirm it.

Meh I dont feel like derailing this thread with a big post on how people decide whos a better player. If you desperately want an answer to that question I can pm you if you want.

1st MLG DC
1st IPL
2nd IEM Cologne
GSL January Ro8
3rd Dreamhack Invitational
GSL Open 2 Ro16
7th MLG Dallas.

He's just had so much more consistancy than Thorzain throughout where as Thorzain basically won and played brilliantly in TSL having done little before and so far not much after it.

I also think that thorzain is overrated, he played almost nowhere before TSL and no wonder that most players (koreans especially) knew nothing about him and his tactics and game style so thorzain could surprise them. White-Ra said same things on his streams and he knows something about this game.

Placing 7th at MLG Dallas is an achievement as much as placing top 32 in TSL3
Rain placed 2nd at GSL and Fruitdealer won GSL, yet they are both not good and id even place Idra ahead of them.
Winning EU craftcup or go4sc2 is harder than winning IPL season 1 honestly.

Basically all of the results u posted were like in beta or in very very early stages of the game, and the game has evolved now.

What makes you say that sir?

To be fair to him, he has only really excelled in the TSL.

Tell me, where did Idra excel at? Hes widely considered the best foreign player yet i fail to see results to confirm it.
edit: I do think Thorzain is awesome, but hes not better than MC or Nani.

1st MLG DC
1st IPL
2nd IEM Cologne
GSL January Ro8
3rd Dreamhack Invitational
GSL Open 2 Ro16
7th MLG Dallas.

He's just had so much more consistancy than Thorzain throughout where as Thorzain basically won and played brilliantly in TSL having done little before and so far not much after it.

TSL just ended like a week ago, what else do you want him to achieve during such a short time?

Since his TSL success he played in the Road to Korea where he lost to Mover (2-0), Lalush (2-1) and Sase (2-0) meaning he didn't make it out of the group stage. He also played in WCG Sweden and didn't qualify as he was too sick to play. He also lost 2-0 to Sase again in the EG Masters Cup this week.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, he's clearly a good player but he's not the best foreigner, he's not even the best in Europe or the best in Sweden.

Winning EU craftcup or go4sc2 is harder than winning IPL season 1 honestly.

Basically all of the results u posted were like in beta or in very very early stages of the game, and the game has evolved now.

None of the results were in Beta. The IPL win was recent, as was the Dreamhack Ro4. Fruitdealer was at the time the best player in the world when he actually won GSL and Rain demonstrates (as does Inca) that flukes do happen in Sc2 and if anything that supports my argument better than it does yours.

I stand corrected!

Naama won 15k dollars Dreamhack winter, is he the best player outside of korea ?
No, but he was at that time.
My point is that game is new, and best players change every 2 months or so, atm best players are thorzain, strelok, nani and so on, 6 months ago best players were idra, tyler, huk and so on.
In 2 months best players will be ??? Who knows
My point is that overall i do not think that Thorzain is the better player than Nani or MC, but atm he is better than Naniwa(not sure about MC though).
As far as Idra goes, i do not think that hes as good as ppl give him credit, sure hes great but not that great u know.

There is a balance between considering every single tournament since Beta and only considering results in the last two weeks. Besides, Idra's not a Naama or Fruitdealer, he's still winning tournaments now.

If Inca had beaten Nestea, would he be the best player in the world?

Ever since they started announcing players for Dreamhack and the apparent lack of american (continent) competitors has become evident, i have been considering who i would take. With Idra and Huk already securing invites i can hardly think of anyone other than the following 4 people.

Dignitas - Select

Root - Kiwikaki

Fnatic - Fenix

FXO - Sheth

I dont consider anyone else including Tyler. I do like him and others, but they simply are not playing consistently well enough in top events, the ladder, winning smaller cups. If i am wrong let me know and i will reconsider but i just dont think this is the case.

Does anyone know more about the latin american scene, other than Fenix i would struggle to name players. Surely they have a few gems over there that could compete at the top or are they suffering the same as there northern continental counterparts?.

I dont know much about the chinese but if you have time check out the link.

Surely within this group of players are the rising stars of the future and are just not getting any of the lime light. Dreamhack is of course invite based and you need to have submitted an application which could make a lot of this post worthless but i wouldn't mind seeing even more diversity i guess.

Of course not, it would still be a lucky run as it is now when he finished 2nd, same as Rain had in the past GSL. Doesnt matter if he finished 1st or 2nd, he had a lucky run, he won games due to mistakes of other people and not by his amazing play.

Compare it to tennis, as it is the sport that resembles starcraft tournament scene the most in my opinion.
Novak Djokovic is unstoppable atm, he wins everything quite easily, and hes the best atm.
Is he better than tennis player than Federer or Nadal ? No he is not.

Why the hell do you mention the WCG when he did not play at all? That's stupid. Also the Road to Korea was before and during the TSL not after, while he was practising full time for his TSL games. By all means have your opinions about Thorzain but please stop spreading blatant misinformation... The only thing you brought up that is actually after the TSL is his loss against Sase whom have been really hot lately. Why not bring up the series he's won as well after the TSL?

I don't know about the whole latin american scene just the (tiny) brazillian scene.
The only players capable of put a stand with dreamhack lineup, would be cn.Potiguar(Protoss) and Lamp(Protoss), but both of them aren't dedicating full-time on SC2 and doen't have sponsors to fly them over to Sweden.

TLDR:

We have virtually no players able to compete at Dreamhack.

He lost to Sase who is like top3 player in Sweden, no big deal really.

i laugh at everyone who says he's overrated because he can't win a 1day tournament. So, can YOU beat MC if you had 2 weeks to prepare? No. a month? no. a year? probably not

thorzain is fucking sick player that excels strategy-wise but also has great mechanics. shut up haters.

This, I heard from him BEFORE TSL, but he didnt have any good results that I recognized.
Furthermore, he take a HUGE advantage from long prep with builds etc, not THAT good in a cup system.

Just my opinion

Other players have just as much right to take that "huge" advantage and prep builds, it's how tournaments works, if people don't do it then that's their fault and ThorZain was simply smarter.

If Dreamhack wants to maximize viewers they shoudl really invite more from the US. I'm sure the last spots are for Americans though.

I agree with everything except that Idra is widely considered the best foreigner, because as you say he has done nothing to prove that.

If play 4 consecutive GSL season, be a code S player, win one MLG and win the IGN proleague is nothing for you.....

That doesn´t prove that he is the best foreigner. Jinro has done better than Idra in GSL and won an MLG, Naniwa dominated the last MLG and got second in TSL. I dont think anyone has done enough to be considered the best foreigner, Idra is among the best but he has to do alot more to be widely considered the best foreigner.

If any player goes and wins both MLG and Dreamhack then they would probably be widely considered the best but it really takes something extreme like that to be crowned the best.

1st MLG DC

I'm not saying he's a bad player, he's clearly a good player but he's not the best foreigner, he's not even the best in Europe or the best in Sweden.

i'm sure he lost in the road to korea because he was preparing for TSL.
as you said he didnt play wcg sweden because he was sick
He lost to Sase who is like top3 player in Sweden, no big deal really.

i laugh at everyone who says he's overrated because he can't win a 1day tournament. So, can YOU beat MC if you had 2 weeks to prepare? No. a month? no. a year? probably not

thorzain is fucking sick player that excels strategy-wise but also has great mechanics. shut up haters.

Thorzain's a good player, I'm not suggesting he's not. But he's not as good as MC and still has a lot to prove.

Me too! BRAT_OK will have as good of a shot as anyone to win this LAN assuming he can obtain a visa. Otherwise, MC & White-Ra are the favorites. I can't wait until the player list is fully announced and finalized, because this should be one of the most exciting tourneys of the year.

Who would you invite though?

The NA players I think should be invited: Idra, Select, Kiwikaki, Huk (if he isnt busy with GSL).

I don't think there are other NA players who would be a strong contender here.

To all those asking for more NA players who do you feel deserves a spot, or is playing strong enough right now to merit a spot. I cant think of many and 2 of them are already there in the form of Idra and Huk.

Dignitas - Select

Root - Kiwikaki

Fnatic - Fenix

FXO - Sheth

Only 4 i could think of playing well enough to merit the cost of flights etc from there teams.

technically neither Fenix nor Sen are NA, Fenix is south american and sen i believe is taiwanese.

i'm sure all of those are at least going to get invited though, they're all really good players.

Sen is already invited though and lately Fenix has stepped up his game. Solely my opinion but i feel the american scene possibly north and south is weak at the moment in terms of player depth. Select is not even from the continent i just put him in with them to beef it out and partly due to him staying there. Fenix has also been laddering on EU and doing fairly well.

Does anyone know how the chinese player Loner is getting on, to my knowledge he has dropped off the face of the earth after some impressive performances early on. Be nice to see him come back and possibly 1-2 other chinese stars. If we want to grow the game we need to involve them more, heres hoping and intel extreme masters event happens over there.

Thorzain just demolished Fenix on his stream.

But yeah, Fenix has had a good run in the NASL at least... He might be a good pick.

I kind of would have to agree, he hasnt shown any true LAN results yet. (i guess the finals of the TSL but he hasnt shown results at a weekend lan where you play multiple games/ cant prepare for everything) I think he has the potential to be a great player but i dont think just because he won the TSL it means he is the greatest player right now (he is awesome dont get me wrong). I will wait for further results before i start praising him though a good showing at dreamhack would defenetly help.

Lots of players have gone on to win a tournament and then show sub par results/ never really acheive anything. So we will have to wait and see weather he is a 1 hit wonder or if he actually has what it takes to be a western bonjwa ^^

Sadly Lalush is very tame (even timid) at events. Anyways, great invites DH. Easily the most impressive line-up at a western tournament so far.

Thanks for describing in more detail rather than just "ThorZain overatted". I would agree with you as well. He is an amazing player of course, one of the best Terran's outside of Korea but consistent games in short succession need to be shown before we say he is THE best which a few are saying already about him and he would probably agree. I am sure the pressure of a huge LAN such as Dreamhack is enough to tilt some players so we'll see if he can manage the big stage. I hope he can.

A lot of players can do stuff like that in GSTL and not make it past the first round in GSL.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, he's clearly a good player but he's not the best foreigner, he's not even the best in Europe or the best in Sweden.

i'm sure he lost in the road to korea because he was preparing for TSL.
as you said he didnt play wcg sweden because he was sick
He lost to Sase who is like top3 player in Sweden, no big deal really.

i laugh at everyone who says he's overrated because he can't win a 1day tournament. So, can YOU beat MC if you had 2 weeks to prepare? No. a month? no. a year? probably not

thorzain is fucking sick player that excels strategy-wise but also has great mechanics. shut up haters.

Thorzain's a good player, I'm not suggesting he's not. But he's not as good as MC and still has a lot to prove.

He beats MC, Kas, Naniwa in bo7s and he still has a lot to prove? What planet are you on?

A lot of players can do stuff like that in GSTL and not make it past the first round in GSL.

Comparing GSTL to bo7's? What the hell is this?

You do realize that winning one game over a tough opponent is much easier than beating them over and over again?

ThorZaIN HWAITING!!! So glad to see him appearing in more tournaments, I've been a fan of his since he played Human way back in WC3, but TSL3 was the first I saw of him in SC2. Let's just say he got me as a fan back!

To all those asking for more NA players who do you feel deserves a spot, or is playing strong enough right now to merit a spot. I cant think of many and 2 of them are already there in the form of Idra and Huk.

Dignitas - Select

Root - Kiwikaki

Fnatic - Fenix

FXO - Sheth

Only 4 i could think of playing well enough to merit the cost of flights etc from there teams.

good list but not fenix. more like sen

Loner isn't really that good anymore, at least from recent showings/results, but it'd definitely be amazing if they could get XiaoT, LoveTT, and Loveced.

I really don't understand people who argue about which is the best player in these terms, they go like "Yeah, ThorZain beat MC in a bo5, he's proven he's better" or "ThorZain rolled Kas in a Bo7, he's the best TvT player in the world". What the hell??? I mean, "Fulham beat Manchester United in a match".. how does that translate into "Fulham is a better team than ManU"?? It's completely ridiculous.

Thorzain is a good terran, but he's definitely not the best. He might be one of the best strategizers and game planners when given ideal conditions, but on the more regular cup conditions, he hasn't had any major victories. One match proves nothing.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, but when people judge player's skill and performance based on single matches, they're just doing it wrong.

"Almost no one" is grossly underrating it. People all over threads were saying ThorZain was the best foreigner terran, and many just went with "best in the world".

Even TZ himself said naniwa is better than him....

More like Fulham beat MU, Arsenal, Chelsea etc in a bo7, and if they did I'd say they're better for the time being at least.

That's the mistake, if Fulham beats MU, Arsenal, and Chelsea in a bo7, they ARE NOT better, they PLAYED better that particular matchup, doesn't mean they ARE better.

ARE implies a permanent or long standing characteristic in a period of time, you're talking about a specific moment, which is why the concept is wrong.

Nah, they already invited Bishu cuz of the coin toss tournament to repay their fuck up last time. So inviting haypro just because he won DH in BW is just a waste of an invite, especially since haypro have been playing so so bad the last 6 months and wont stand a chance in this tournament. =/

Sad, but result-wise, true. He has fallen a bit but let's hope he gets back up there again! Maybe the awesome practice/team-house in Stockholm can help him get back on his feet.

SC2 foreigner ELO is retarded and biased towards the EU community (I have no problem with you saying Stephano is worthy of an invite though), due to the fact there are more smaller tournies in Europe right now, so you shouldn't use it to reference. Someone who only plays big tournaments is going to have a way worse ELO than someone who plays every ZOTAC/Go4SC2 just because you face lots of players (mostly worse level).

How come you guys are pretending ThorZain is Fulham, he is clearly Man United.
If you're not getting better faster than everybody else, you're getting worse.

I VOTE FROM BRATOK. (Joking)

I am actually very glad that they invited him, though Bratok never fails to dissapoint, he is also a player that can make up a beautiful show of a game. If he puts in enough pratice he will do well. Usually he is very unmotivated to pratice, but when he does he is a beast.

This DreamHack is looking to be the best SC2 event so far.

Wow! A really impressive line-up. All of the invited players have shown great results, however, there are sooooo many more players I would like to see invited. The question is prehaps if you should increase the invitee pool so players like Whire-Ra, Kas, Naniwa et al. could be brought in as well.
But nontheless an impressive start-up line.

WhiteRa was 3rd to be invited while Kas and Naniwa are 10th and 11th.
These are only from 22 to 29.

Good invites. Will be fun to watch. Although I'd like to see some more Koreans now (we do have a few). With the great production, casting and organization that DH always delivers it'd be odd if we weren't able to see the highest level of play.

To be more specific, I'd like to see Nestea, MVP, Bomber, LosirA etc.

2GD was awesome. He was even better this Saturday casting the Swedish WCG qualifier alongside TLO. Maybe not the best actual game commentary, but it was the funniest cast ever.

His name is the one I'm most looking forward to seeing announced!

After he kicks some korean asses first ofc

13 spots left?

Let's see, 13 of
Nestea
Morrow
Select
MMA
Xiaot
Violet
Nerchio
Haypro
July
Kiwi
Moon
Sheth
Lovecd
Axlav
Bomber
Goody
Boxer
Demuslim
Losira
TT1
Lovett
MVP
Sase
Ace

Did I forget any obvious candidates?

I assume Morrow, Kiwi and Select are basically guaranteed invites. They probably want Nestea, MVP, July and Boxer for sure but hard to know which Koreans are able to come. Quite sure TT1, Nerchio and Moon(especially since Grubby is in) will be invited, Demuslim will probably be there playing or commentating and Haypro and Sase seem probable since they are Swedish.
Of the "possibly wont be invited ones"(minus all good Korans) I would love too see Xiaot and Sheth. Speaking of zergs, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to invite spanishiwa, a lot of people probably want to see him play and there probably wont be that many north american invites by the looks of things.

And speaking of NA players, some probably disagree but personally I would like to see Incontrol and Tyler invited. Incontrol could jump in as interviewer or commentator when not playing or whatever as well. Plus he could do the surströmming thing with nani if nani can't bring it to MLG~

I completely agree. I mean whats up with all the attention that guy gets for taking out 2 GSL champions, the previous TSL champion, an amazing TvT player and a guy who had like a 33 game win streak in a single tournament? Clearly an overrated player.

Some people are rating Thorzain above MC and Naniwa, he's clearly very overrated on Team Liquid.

because he defeated both. And can do it every time it counts.

1 set in 1 tourney doesn't prove anything. Thorzain is a top player that can hang with the top Koreans for sure. But winning 1 set means you're a better player? That must be a joke. I like how when Koreans dominate, "It's too early to tell" or "the game is still young." As soon as a European sees some success, "Thorzain is the best player in the world hands down, he is the great bonjwa god of our generation."

Hell yeah. He does have the skill to back up an invitation too. It's time for him to win a major tournament!

On the other hand..the sooner he gets knocked out..the larger the chances of him laying down some casting. I mean, it's not like I want that to happen for him, but from a purely selfish point of view it'd be awesome.

This lineup starts to look really promising. Lets hope we get a similarly good final like last year.

It is the best line up of an international tournament thus far in Starcraft 2.

I am quite certain Morrow will be invited.

Looking forward to see Thorzain play again, I don't care if some people think hes overrated, I'll be a fan even if he drops down to Bronze league. DH has always has some great games :-)

Yeah, this indeed. I want to see BRAT_OK destroy some fools, and not see paperwork destroy him (again).
