DreamHack Sapphire AMD Championship: DreamHack Summer 2011 will feature 48 of the very best players in the world. Now we present 8 new players filling up the full roster by almost 50%. More players and details will be presented soon. Stay tuned!
We welcome DIMAGA, Jinro, MarineKing, Anypro, Huk, Ret, Strelok and Happy to Sweden and DreamHack Summer 2011.
If you want to know more about what players that were invited before or just Dreamhacks general plans for Starcraft 2 during the summer-event, please visit and discuss in this thread then.
Should really either update the OP in the other thread with the extra invitees. Hard to keep discussing in there if the updates are spread out in other threads.

I think DH organizes 4 bigger events this year. Jinro was at the first one this year (Stockholm Invitational), and DH summer will be 2nd. I believe they're gonna run one more tourny later during summer/autumn and finish it up with DH Winter in November.

Have you seen happy play!? You can do the exact same build as him, copy everything he does and he'll still have a bigger army, better economy and more upgrades. Absolutely amazing player

Yep, happy is the future. He will do very, very well.
If all the invites are as good as the ones announced so far, Dreamhack Summer 2011 will be THE best SC2 tournament. Period. The only question is who will beat MarineKing in the finals?

Huh. I've never even heard of him before now. XD Looks like I shoudl check him out ;O
This is fucking awesome, though. MKP should be super awesome ^__^
These are confirmed, not just invitse... right? lol
I think Happy will be the best Terran outside of Korea in a few weeks/months but this tournament is probably still a bit too early for him to have a major impact.
Now some more players I hope gets invited Nestea, Losira, DongRaeGu, Nerchio, MVP, MMA, ThorZain, SeleCT, KiWiKaKi, HasuObs, SjoW, Stephano, Beastyqt, Sheth, Tyler and some more americans cause they always fun except qxc he boring sad guy always.
Sad Incontrol couldn't go he's such an awesome character.
Happy was awesome in wc3 and I only seen snippets of him in Sc2 and he looks rly rly good there as well, game should suit him with his amazing speed.
watch him kill whole grubby orc army with 2 units!
hopefully this will make BratOK pull up his game :p (unless he missed out because of prev. visa problems) find his "russkie boxer" style alot more entertaining than happys
I hope MKP gets his first gold at this tournament. Then again, perhaps that hope will jinx him. The spirit of YellOw is not so easily overcome.
Anyways, the lineup looks absolutely excellent. This combined with the awesome production values that Dreamhack has should make for a great tournament.
Im actually really happy that Happy (lol that wasnt by purpose) is coming. We haven't seen much of him and he is a new rising star for sure! Hope he takes home the whole tournament
At least they won't sell out this time. ^^ Was sad that Stockholm sold out so quickly (I got my seat in time though). Only problem is probably how small the viewing area is, only ~1.5k people (was packed at winter, usually less people at summer, so might work out anyhow)?
So insane list already and we are not even halfway through! Add to that the production value of the last invitational and we are looking at one hell of a tournament!
Happy thing happend to the happy Happy fans and Happy himself. Not joking, I am happy, though not the real Happy, oh this is too much... Oh DongRaeGu where art thou?
Dreamhack invitational wasn't even a real Dreamhack event, it was just a 1 day tournament and nothing else. Dreamhack summer is the first big real Dreamhack event of the year. I hope that Dreamhack summer is going to have the same sky high production value as the Invitational did (best sc2 tournament so far imo).
Anyway these invites are amazing and its so great to see Korean top players become regular features in EU and NA tournaments.

He already has a Gold in a tournament that had players just as good if not better(people like Leenock and Scfou)
oh and it was online with lag which isn't an easy thing to do considering his play is based on his insane micro
I'm really excited for this though I want to go DH and meet him :[
On May 20 2011 18:49 JoeAWESOME wrote: Now I want Nestea, MVP, Donraegu and Losira to join then it will be the sickest Lan tournament so far!
I doubt Europe could handle all that baller, but I'd love to see it nonetheless. How many invite spots are left now?
So many good players, on at a reasonable time to watch... if 2gd returns then I think it will be perfect.

And if the graph below is representative of all the invites we should see about 9ish more Korean invites (not sure what region they count Huk and Jinro).
On May 16 2011 22:22 bobhund wrote: We have been working hard with the invites during the weekend. Here is a little graph from the selection-progress
Ah, didn't notice that someone already posted. Oh well, now there is a picture in the thread
Not sure whether they count Huk/Jinro as Korea och NA+EU, but judging by that pic there ~1/3 Koreans and only 6 on the list so far, meaning ~10 left to be announced.
EU People we'll surely see if they applied: Morrow, Thorzain, Sjow, TLO (all no brainers) EU People I'd like to see: Demuslim (cool to see him back), Hasu (solid NASL+TSL performance), Nerchio (#1 EU ladder + multiple cup winnings lately)
Should be 1-3 NA players left to be announced too. Tyler + Select (Liquid and Dignitas seems to send people around the world more than other teams with NA players)?
3 players fromg oGs, 2 players from prime & 1 from TSL. I can easily see 2 koreans from IM being added into that Judging by the graph though i think they're going to invite 2 players from each korean team.
I'm sorry GOMTV - but Dreamhack Summer is more looking like the real World Championship.
Nice job Dreamhak! Let us hope that the following Koreans gets an invite: * IMMVP * IMNesTea * IMLosira * ST_July * ST_Bomber * SlayerSMMA * SlayerSBoxeR * MVPGenius
If a majority of these gets an invite this would be the best tournament so far in SC2 when it comes to players.
Considering MKP is going (which was probably hard to get), can we assume that Tastosis will be there aswell? Unless we heard otherwise we could probably assume that Hellspawn is doing his absolute best to get them there, would be SOOOOOO SICK. :D
Even though i'm a huge White-Ra fan i really want to see how Happy will do cause he is an awesome player that hasn't been in the spotlight so far. So now is his chance to shine
More top class players to add to the line up for this years Dreamhack! Going to be so sick! I would say it's looking like the best line up for a tournament to this date.

He got his first one already at FXO two weeks ago.

If they get MVP and Nestea this will be the most prestigious SC2 tournament this far. Especially considering the format - groups with six players playing bo3 against each other.
P.S. I'm assuming Thorzain will get invited for sure.

Without lag :o and MarineKing invited over certain people that got invited to the TSL, lol
would be amazing if they get Nestea/MVP/Losira/July!
Dreamhack truly is the biggest LAN in the world! Coming from a background watching 1.6 and css they never dissapointed, but this list of players for sc2 is on another level. I think they have made amazing selections considering the huge amount of talent out their to pick from
wow.. dreamhack is living up to the name "dream" indeed, going to be a great addition to the tournament... no idea what anypro is doing there though... >.> i know hes been consistant and all... but... is it just me or does his play seem somewhat lackluster compared to..... anyone.

Same feeling here. I'm hoping for a MKP or Ret win though. Ret's back in his home town playing on a schedule and an environment more comfortable for him, so hopefully his play and morale have improved a lot.

Depends what he does, he might not want to reveal all his strats because of the world championship/gsl season :o I hope he'll go all the way though, he should be favoured against every player in this tournament in a bo3/bo5
Are the invited players paying their own way to the tourney? I'm curious how they're bringing so many big names together in a tournament. The invitiational looked a lot easier compared to what they're proposing here.
But as the rest have said previously, I'm so excited for this!
On May 21 2011 01:04 FallDownMarigold wrote: MKP wins dreamhack, calling it. Who has a chance against him?
Himself! MC and maybe NaDa, but if he is on top of his play that would be hard. If there are other koreans invited, NesTea and Mvp (not really sure about Bomber since he dropped a game to Jjun and MKP don't play 5/7 straight standart games like Mvp). Oh and DH need Stephano

idk if you're trolling but lol. 4gate, quite an accomplishment, top 3 control? that's a joke. did you watch his pvp in the up downs? horrendous. and being teamliquid doesnt mean we have to be soft spoken and pretend to not notice their players' short comings.
Hmm interesting choice of Anypro, I think another (better) Korean Protoss would should have been chosen. Either way Anypro is really good so I hope he does well. MKP is going to be in it, thats really exciting to see, I want him of all people to do well and prove to everyone he is an amazing player. Dreamhack is going to be exciting all around, can't wait to see the matchs!

Because anypro is in prime and he can go together with MKP. Anypro is doing well in GSL too.
There are 10+ players in this lineup who could all take the win. Impossible to predict who will win atm. It all comes down to preparation and the shape of the players when it starts. If Strelok can continue his sick play he has a good chance imo.

You should also check out his accomplishments after joining team liquid in the liquidedia. He won so many events.
I just love seeing Koreans play offline in Europe and NA! The last spot has to go to Boxer though, since he couldn't show up for Invitational due to being hospitalized!

Maybe you should go take a look at his record on the EU ladder. It is one of the best records in the world for any ladder. He has also won many of the smaller weekly cups that EU has.
I would not be surprised if he got top 8 at Dreamhack. In fact I think he will get top 8.

Happy is easily one of the best players in the world. I mean the guy has the highest win% on the EU Grandmaster ladder at 83%
The only one win a better win% is Thorzain but he has only played 7 games total (7-0). Happy has 418 wins and 81 losses.

Since when does ladder % mean...anything substantial with regard to best players in the world? It means you're good, sure, but by no means does it prove conclusively that you're among the best in the world. You need tournament results - most preferably live - to prove that. Until then...
edit: To clarify, I've heard others state that he hasn't performed in tournaments. If I'm wrong, by all means correct me. I believe it was Nony who stated that ladder % really doesn't mean much. Many better players have lower percentages due to the fact they prefer to treat the ladder as a playground in which they can practice funky or innovative builds/refine them.

True, but there's also the TLPD win% with Happy at 63% in different tournaments. That doesnt mean much either without context (opposition, tournaments etc) but Strelok competes in similar tournaments and has 59%, White-Ra is at 56%, Kas at 65% and DiMAGA at 58%.
He might not be the most well-known player outside of the WC3/European community or the 'best' player - but he's definately good enough to warrant an invite imo.

I would love to see some chinese players being invited but I feel like part of the reason why they arent invited is that they simply arent that well-known in the western community. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if its hard to get in contact with these players in a reliable way. Not saying it couldn't be done of course but its a lot of work when you dont already have established ways of contacting them. I'd love to see xiaOt and a couple of other chinese players at Dreamhack Winter though, I feel like there are a few players (I've only seen one chinese tournament..) that could definately compete at a "Code S RO4"-level.

I think you have to be patient and realise the Chinese scene hasn't been officially recognised for very long and Starcraft 2 was released not long ago in China. Just a few Chinese players have been playing in tournaments, mainly Starwars. Wait a couple of months and they will surely be invited for the next Dreamhack.

This really does have the potential to be the best SC2 tournament to date. Will see who else they invite and if their production value matches that of the recent 1 day event they held. Needless to say Dreamhack though

players had to apply to get invited. I think atleast xiaot wouldve gotten an invite if he had applied.

Ladder % doesn't mean much but you're still wrong. Happy started entering tournaments just recently(Mars) and has shown an impressive performance in tournaments since then. Both in game play and results.
Also, he was top5-10 in the world for the last three or four years in WC3...as Undead! That may not say much for people unfamiliar with the WC3 scene but those who are know that it's sick good.
OMFG MK!!!!!!! Now I fucking have to go just to watch the tournament and cheer for him! Love that guy. Somone tell the Prime guys that they need to hook us up with team jackets! I so want one. And the pink hoodie he used to wear as well.
Its a bit disappointing to see people crtiticizing the Empire.Happy choice. I guess the only reason they do this is because they dont know him, and think it is based solely on his ladder performance. If you look at recent EU go4sc2 tournaments you will see how high a standard that is, and how he has performed.

People were also criticising ThorZain and Kas before their results in TSL, guess people still don't realize how much a tournament win counts even if it's <1000$.
I hope KiWiKaKi and SeleCT are invited too so that the best player of each race in NA can be there. Don't forget that KiWi rolled over IdrA and Huk at MLG Dallas (not to mention Socke and SeleCT).

As surprising as it may seem, having a bad ladder % typically does not mean you are bad -- lots of top players just play around off-race and stuff like that -- but having a phenomenal ladder % it's almost a guarantee that the player is absolute top notch.. just look at all players above 75% in the ladder in EU and US and make your own conclusions.

Also don't forget that IdrA rolled over Kiwi in IPL and SeleCT rolled over Kiwi in a recent BO7 :D
Whoa that was scary... for a second I thought WhiteRa wasn't invited, but I just wasn't keeping up with the previous announcements. That's really cool to see MKP and DIMAGA invited! This tournament is looking very solid! I'm hoping MKP takes another second place for the lulz! (Plus second place with all these players would be an amazing result.)

IIRC dimaga missed the application date... it's only his fault lol.
Huge invites. This is going to be a GREAT event. I mean come on MKPs first international "offline" event and --correct me if I am wrong-- Happys first offline event as well.
I can't wait until the full player list and details are finally released. Keep it up Dreamhack :D
Happy is going to be great. He's definitely one of the major players in the European scene currently and hopefully this will give him the exposure he deserves.
Happy and Kas will be in the finals against each other for 1st And then Dimaga and whitera will have to battle it out for 3rd! That's how I see it going down, don't judge.
Dimaga is going to rip every single nerd's eyes out. If MKP makes it to the finals I hope he wins, he deserves it by now. Unless he's against WhiteRa of course.

don't think so after mc demolished him (kas) 4:0 at the Copenhagen Games Lan.
I feel like dreamhack is going to be (the?) one of the best tournaments we get this year. This line is AWSOME. Good job dreamhack - now just make sure the players actually get there!!

I don't like the guy either but the only one better than him at the event is MarineKing..? I don't get this hate on his skills when he's proven he's consistent and can play well at times.
Actually I forgot MC/Nada were invited so there's 3 people who have proven to be better than him. He's still one of the best at the event.

Happy was a progamer in WC3 and is a progamer now. Even if he wasnt at a big lan in SC2 until now, he definitely shows his skills in the onlinetournaments and he deserves his place..
I'm afraid I will be adding on to the anypro hate. When inviting Korean players to foreign tournaments, the Koreans should either be elite players or fan favorites. Anypro is neither. His semifinal run in GSL5 was thanks to a ridiculously easy bracket and his only big name BoX win was against July in GSL6, which if you actually watched wasn't particularly impressive either. I expect anypro to be bounced out of Dreamhack early. Oh well at least he can give MarineKing plenty of moral support while he's there.
Good to see Huk and jinro being invited into this (as well as everyone else). But i am overjoyed by the fact that many people living in korea are starting to be able to go to at least some tournys. And for Jinro it is a good opportunity to go see his home country. Not to mention the fact that dream hack puts on some of the sickest shows.

Can't believe how many players are invited this time.
There is no real global LEAGUE at the moment IMO because the Taiwan and Chinese scenes are still developing and from what I've seen, they have some high quality players in them as well. In a year or so, when those scenes are bigger, hopefully we will see tournaments and/or league incorporate players from every region, which I have no doubt will happen.
On the other hand, I see what you're going for and yeah, DH is definitely an amazing international tournament and includes pretty much all the top players at the moment.

Yeah, Im guessing MKP didn't want to go alone. No way anypro would get invited otherwise.
And its gonna be awesome to see IdrA Dimaga and Sen play! Foreign Zergs fiighting!

The final of GSL Super Tournament is on the starting day of DreamHack, so I doubt it.
Yeah marinekingggg and by the way marineking has been in the fxo invitational 3 and actually won that tourny so he has been in tournies outside of korea @first poster

These doubts are incredibly ridiculous and unfounded. If Dreamhack wants to invite the best players available, players like Anypro and Hongun are both better choices than HuK. Sure HuK is more of a fan favorite, but please be consistent and admit that's why you would prefer to see him there. Do not spin it off as Anypro being "lackluster" because it makes you look poor. Check out Anypro's placements below.
