What happens if there are ties after group play, such as if there are 3 players tied for 3rd at 6-3 in a division, or there is a tie for the 30th spot? Are there playoffs or tiebreakers?

Round robin group stage -- so each player will play 9 matches (all bo3).

Wow, the pessimistic side of me continues to fade as the NASL produces more information.

*No 5 player/team rule
*"UPDATE: We are currently having some discussions with Korean teams and representatives. We will be doing our best to get Koreans into the NASL. We appreciate all feedback and concern!"

Listening to the feedback of the community, while dealing with whining/unappreciative community that expects nothing less than ideal circumstances.

Nice work NASL!

I'm very psyched about the NASL and agree with the important decision not to live cast live games. However, you're saying you want feedback from the community, so mine is this: please hire professional graphic designers so that your corporate look will be professional, consistent, high-grade etc. Just outsource if you have to (Case in point, that tournament format chart. It looks weird and unprofessional and inconsistent with the website.)

It's not so bad, you can't look at it like a separate tournament but a separate round. GSL and most other tourneys besides MLG go single knockout after a certain point.

I agree. Not that bo3 is not good, but if you are going to fly everyone over to LA for several days, might as well let them play more matches. Something like double elimination or a group stage where people get to pick each other.

Depends on how many days you have and how much casting can reasonably be done though, since unlike other weekend tournaments you are casting every game.

I don't have a lot of love for the way you've decided to select the players for the season after the first. I think keeping 34 of 50 people is too conservative and underestimates the influence of motivation and development in skill that happens in a game this new. In other words, if you want the best players, you should probably have more people re-qualify. More than that though, I think the decision to let the 1024-player bracket-play decide 8 of the spots is sure to let variance have a huge influence on who gets to play. Look at the TSL-tournament. Are the players who qualified through the tournaments the best possible players, or the best/luckiest players on the day? I would argue, that by letting a single tournament of bracket-play decide that many spots, you're rolling a dice, with probabilities hugely influenced by luck-of-the-draw/brackets/maps.

That's exactly the point. Unlike events like MLG and IEM that feature selected matches to be cast, we will be casting every single game. All our matches will be played in booths and stuff, =D

Yes, our free stream is lower quality (800kb)!

A followup to this question - will I be able to watch the free stream if I have paid for the HQ stream? This was a problem I had with MLG one time, where the HQ stream just wasn't working for me and I could find no way to just watch the LQ stream instead. I'd hate to have to choose between supporting the tournament and watching it.

Yes you can watch the free quality stream if you're having problems with the HD / can't view it but have purchased the pass. There will be many other perks that will make the pass desirable outside of the HQ stream.

Q: When people talk about "high quality streams", they're usually referring to a very high resolution. A good resolution is certainly nice, but I was wondering if there were any plans to stream at a frame rate higher than the usual. I think it was MLG (or maybe IEM) that streamed their event at a high frame rate, and even though the resolution was relatively low, it was amazing how smooth the gameplay was compared to the average stream. What frame rate will the HQ stream be using?

That format looks pretty sweet! Each season we are guaranteed 8-16 new faces in the league (regular season). I can't wait for this to start!

Each player plays 9 other players in a best of 3? That's somewhere between 18 and 27 games for the first round for each player. Now I know why people said GSL is the World Cup and NALS is MLS.

There is a HUGE mistake in the brackets at http://www.nasl.tv/Images/graphLarge.jpg
* Seeds 1 and 3, and 2 and 4 hit each other in second round when they should hit each other in third round.
* Each first round pair should sum to 17 and that's not the case (one sums to 16 and the other to 18)
Hopefully this is just an error in the image and not in the actual tournament format.
I will try to find an image of a single elimination bracket with seeds correctly positioned.

Edit: here we go, this bracket is good: http://www.wvmat.com/brackets/bracket8.jpg
