Hi TL, this was published last month, but I could not find a post about it, and since we all love every tiny bit of knowledge about the Koreans, let me present to you pictures from the MVP team house:
The space for each seat seems reasonable for Korean-sized standards, I just wouldn't want to sit in the corners near the window.
Is it just me, or do these beds look awfully tiny? What's the standard mattress size in Korea?
At least HuK would fit into the bathtub (Sorry, HuK ).
I couldn't survive there without a coffee machine.
A gym and a park are nearby so the players can exercise, work out and release some stress from all the daily practice. Whether the colours of the bedsheets that are given out depend on each player's race remains unknown ^_^ -zere
I like the green sheets. I also didn't realize MVP had a house and everything set up. I actually can't wait to see some talents out of that team; I think they have a dude or a few in Code A.
A generic looking pro house, but at least it looks pretty cozy. It is cool that they have single beds instead of bunks, but the amount of space between beds is uncomfortable to me if I live there. Speaking of beds, my bed is twice the size as theirs lol.
Hehe the beds seem a bit strange eh? wouldnt just traditional bunkbeds be better? I would wake up everyday spooning one of my "neighbours" if i slept like that ^^
I also cant see why they didnt go for bunkbeds, there would be twice as much room, you would be able to move between the beds and keep personal things besides the bed.
Bath tub doesn't look THAT small. Aren't they taking showers anyways? Just get in shower and get out! Also isn't it kind of Korean culture for Koreans to be close with each other. The bed distance doesn't seem that awkward for Koreans. Looking at the team size it doesn't look like they have a choice anyways with the limited amount of space in the house.
This is just coming from my knowledge of being in Korea for over 3 years now.
Beds and bathtub may look like a joke, but most of those MvP guys were born on '93 or later. Beds of that size are not that small for kids of that age.

Wow O.o A team to look out for in a couple of years then.
The beds look to be a very reasonable size and I like the colourful blankets. I would have difficulty being always with so many people, it would be like a school camp without crazy activities or an end time.
Awesome pictures, however I think i might be too big for their beds. They seem a bit small. Anyway, its awesome to see what these gaming houses look like. Thanks!!
I like the ogs-liquid set up better with bunk beds. These team houses all look fairly nice though, bathrooms a lot cleaner then i'd expect lol. thanks for the pic's always cool to see behind the scene's pic/footage.
do koreans masturbate as much as we western nerds do because i m slightly worried about the space between 2 beds tbh even mexican hos would be scared going into those dorm afaik
Yeah i tihnk that house looks nice. Sure its you and the rest of the team but it looks like a cozy existance at least, and doesn't scream slave labor like some of the early sc1 day pro houses
Why cant they just have their Team House as their job office? Live in some nearby appartment, go to "work" (to the house) to play and maybe exercise or whatever. And whenever they feel they are done for the day, just head back home to have a few hours for themselves before going to sleep?
Even if it only meant they'd pretty much sleep at home and nothing else, I think a lot of people would like that setup.
Looks a bit crowded but otherwise seems to be ok. Having the toilets in the bathroom with that many people must be slightly unconfortable :s. It's crazy to see that many people in this team , and yet almost none of them are in code A or code S. I guess it's true that code A is going to be incredibly hard pretty soon :s.

This kind of setup is more affordable for everyone involved.

Well, true. I guess its a lot cheaper to have everyone living under the same roof too.

Homes cost money, money is hard to get if you're practicing all day. This is not really a regular playing job except for the very few at the absoloute top.
Basically your salary is lodging and food afaik unless you start being "worth" more than that to the team.
What you're talking about would only work for a "semi-pro" house where everyone has their normal day-jobs. Or for a really high profile team with some generous sponsors.
Wouldn't bunk beds be more space efficient? And that's a lot of computers, Can't imagine living in a place like that. It would be kinda awesome, if not a bit claustrophobic.
I think it is interesting that their team house looks like the cleanest and most organized of the houses (that I've seen, at least), and they are arguably one of the strongest teams. Probably very organized all around.

Haha exactly. There was a thread about progame teams and their rosters which i can't seem to find now. But, if you look at TLPD, except Aya ('87), Keeping ('86), Phoenix ('90), CrazyMoving ('92) and Tails (unknown), everybody was born in '94 (most), '95 (Cute, LoveRip) and '96 (Dream). So, this team will be a force to be reckoned with. After this game will be much more figured out with both expansion packs out there, most of these MvP guys will be in their prime. I'd hook up with them if I was any kind of investor on korean progaming sector.
Wow very nice setup there. Thanks for sharing And yes being a korean progamer requires dedication. We are witnessing dedication through these pictures.
On February 18 2011 04:31 RyanRushia wrote: hm so i thought it looks pretty cool.... jealous!
I'm with you on that.
I look at it like kids in their prime, trying to become a great progamer. Their mindset is on training, and being immersed in the culture of their game, learning and helping others right next to them. When you've got that kind of motivation, living quarters are irrelevant; and in that sense, that house looks awesome.
I wish there were places like that for other people; artists, programers, developers, writers.
Pretty nice/cute house. Wouldn't expect this little bit lower-tier team to have this nice of a house ^^. Well they will probably start doing really well after some time has gone pass...
I think there is no MvP players on code a/code s yet?
Hmm, i think the lower quality simply is a reflection that MVP doesn't have enough sponsers yet and this was probably just thrown together. Even the ST team house, which still isn't considered a top team (GSTL might have changed that) had a much more comfortable and spread out area
what about if they wanna bring a girl home? o_O seems like you wouldn't get much privacy there. At least the beds/kitchen/bathroom etc.. look nice, just not spacious at all.

Well, IMO it would be like bringing a girl to your office at work... You just don't.
Or you get a room!
Overall I think it's a pretty nice house! I'm thinking of quite a few ways to setup these PCs in a better way than it is actually, but other than that, it's a pretty nice team house!
They should get bunk beds. Anyways the house is pretty nice, did no one noticed the upgraded kitchen and bathroom? I thought this place looked better than many of the other kroean houses, ogs and gom. Btw these guys don't pay for room and board, and they get paid a salary. If you want space, move out.
I'm surprised they have their own individual beds vs bunk beds O_O. As for the size of the beds and everything else, its kind of hard to say. They do seem a bit small, but it could also just be the pictures themselves.
Uh, No Thanks. I would be put on life tilt the first night I had to sleep in one of those "beds". The gaming area is alright, I guess... But, you're right, fuck the corners near the window.
Oh, nice, I didn't realize MvP was an actual team with a house. I thought it was just a clan since I haven't really seen too many of them outside of Odin (Aya). Nice pictures, tho! Looks like a nice place. Hopefully, it will pay off for them and we see more MvP players in the GSL.
it would be fun to live there for a while but man in the long run its alot of no alone time and you would feel like a "little people" all the time with that tub and beds
The standards for these progamers seems really quite low, Boxer has a nice place, but I wouldn't ever trade my privacy for playing with the best players. But then again I've been living quite isolated for most of my life, atleast as far as my home goes.

I go to a nerd college with tons of students in the computer labs, and the noise is just invisible to you. Perhaps to an outsider it would probably be quite loud.
2 Bathrooms for all those guys must be pretty inconvenient every morning. Even sharing one BR with just 2-3 others could sometimes get a bit annoying. At least the place looks renovated.
On February 18 2011 07:01 imyzhang wrote: i wouldn't be able to stand living/sleeping with that many people... although, their bathroom looks pretty cool.
Most of them have to (or some of them already have) do it eventually when they do their mandatory army service, except in a lot less fancy and even more cramped rooms. Well, that is unless they dropped out before completing middle school, in which case you are apparently exempted.
Do they only play custom gamers all day long? The team house doesn't look like there is a place to sit together and discuss strategies or analyzing replays together. I would have thought that it is one of the main advantages of such a practise place to get lots of educated opinions when you need them.

When you live that close to people all day every day you become quite comfortable with each other! Whip it out and jerk it like a boss, eye contact with the other guys in the house for maximum awkwardness.
I see why there aren't many pro female SC2 players, in conditions like that I imagine every single guy in the house would be so incredibly desperate.
I'm a huge fan of starcraft but I personally could not give up my privacy for training like that to become a pro gamer.
Even growing in a pretty upperclass family, I think that a lot of the above posters are... picky.
Those beds aren't that small, and so what if they're close? Unless the guy next to you is a convicted homosexual rapist, you should be okay.... The kitchen meets my needs (and I've always cooked for myself). The bathroom might be slightly smaller than what I'd like, but whatever. The shower is nice and big :D
I believe those beds are like doubles, meh. I think beds in Korea tend to be more on the smaller side. I`ve been spoiled; I had a queen-sized bed ever since I was 14.

hey sean, how'd ur game go?
I just want you to know someone appreciated that
I wonder if they don't heat the room very well or something... multiple computers running and everyone wearing coats, I'd be boiling
Always so much misplaced sympathy for progamers in these teamhouse picture/video threads. I spent the first 17 years of my life in a big house in the suburbs, then spent my 5 university years in a tiny dorm/apartment with as little living space as these guys have. Turns out that as long as I have enough space to eat, sleep, shower and take a dump, the quality of my life isn't affected at all.

heh, the people feeling sorry for them have probably never had to live in similar conditions, with less personal space and more people. Honestly you get used to it, having a big house and bed to yourself is just a luxury. Besides, they play SC2 all day with their friends, cant be that bad

Fixed ? :D
Actually it never ceases to amaze me how many things we don't really need. I mean I'm pretty sure quite a few people here would say electricity and internet are their #1 needs and everything else can come after that.

Not really. There are many professions with sardine-type sleeping arrangements that are 100 times worse. I assume living on the sea would be much more sad.

Well, the MVP team is probably the lowest ranked Korean SC2 team right now. Check out some of the other team's houses, especially oGs, they are much nicer.

Yes, but (at least in the West), sailors who actually live on ships for extended periods make very good salaries. And even that aside, just because other people live like that doesn't make it any more comfortable for pro-gamers to. I'm going to have to agree with Zorkmid on this one -- progamers' living conditions in Korea are pretty horrible.

You guys do know they are not locked in this apartment? I'm going to assume that the beds are for the people who plan to practice over a period of a few days, and perhaps few who are staying in this house permamently. They don't even have enough beds for all 14 players!
It looks really comfortable even if it's a bit crowded. I am super jellous.

Yeah who ever thought that people had to endure hardships to achieve something!?
[edit] But yeah, I imagine there's some sort of "10-minute" rule for the one bathroom. DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO GET SUSPICIOUS.

You will find that alot of the time, in a house will all boys, they wont even shut the door to do their business.

I don't know about anyone else, but all of my room mates are guys and I've never thought, "well I'll just start doing my business with the bathroom door open."

I think that getting picked or recruited to a Pro-Team could definitely be considered an achievement. The hardship part is the hundreds of hours of practice it took to get them there. At least give them a 8x8 room for making the team!

No, the hard part is finding the right sponsors and being able to put yourself in a position where you are able to move into an even bigger team house. Compare this tour to (1:20 ish).
So the journey is NOT over just because you made it into a team that practices together, notice the trophies for example.

wow, by far the nicest gaming house I've seen to date... Definitely can't top that.
They really take this super-seriously eh??? I didn't realize the team had so many people living together. As a player coming from an athlete's background, that's ludicrous!
