The only thing "sad", is that there are people who claim intellectual superiority over others who hold a different value system from their own. I consider myself an agnostic, but I don't go around bashing, feeling "sad" for people who have faith in a greater power. Having an open mind is the basic virtue of a truly intellectual person.
having an open mind doesnt mean not passing judgment on ideas and opinions, it just means you do so for good reason. if something is absurd you can call it absurd and still be open minded.
