Only if all the people in it have auto join enabled. If not, when someone leaves a slot will open.
The thing is I had it on and signed in today and it told me the channel was full, so I'm not sure this is true, at least all the time anyway.

wow this is terrible I can't even imagine how they could misunderstand what people meant with 'chat channels'
they've had chat channels in EVERY game except WoW and now they've suddenly forgotten how successful their template was?

Now given how bad of a job blizzard has done with chat we're all asking ourselves..... 'did we really want chat?' Frank Pearce is laughing all the way to the bank while we suffer with this half assed attempt at chatrooms. If only they had looked at SC1 or WAR3 source code and planned this 10 year old technology in at the start, they could have done a better job.
Also another issue is when your joining more than 1 chat, I mean seriously where do I put those windows? they cover up something important, too big and background menu system is covered.

i thought thats just related to the shitty bnet chat bug and those are the guys that "lost" that channel.
but is this really related to jsut autojoin? this would be even more stupid then the bug...

I still get the feeling that bliz don't get it. This is ofc a step in the right direction but the way chat channels are right now is lacking the most logical stuff to have in chats like moderators. Bliz said in late beta that chat channels were a bad idea and if this is their idea of what chats means i can understand them.
Lets hope for moderators and fundamental options like player caps for 1.3

as other people already said It was a bug yesterday bnet went down for a little and everyone that add auto-join at that time got bugged in them so they cant join or leave them...(even if they turn off auto-join)

Now everything becomes clear.
The "do you really want chat channels" was an attempt to WARN the community of the massive amount of fail that would await us!
Kinda the same as if I'd go to a hospital asking a guy "do you really want me to perform open heart surgery on you?"

Problem is how do we blizzard to implement this :o I don't think you can remove them yourself and even if you could that would be quite troublesome.
I think the easiest fix is to remove the 100 people limit. It's ludicrous to have that on in the first place. The problem now is to auto-join a channel your spot has to be saved otherwise it might be full when you back online. I just can't believe they put in 100 people limit.

Or kick people who are 'away' out when someone tries to join a full channel. I can see quite some troubles if the amount of people in a room was unlimited. Imagine 1000 people in the same channel all chatting away. How on earth could you keep up a discussion?
IRC often has large amounts of people in chat channels and that medium runs fine. So why exactly does something that was made over 10 years ago run better than bnet chat channels. It's disturbing.

OP might not realise the red and yellow people arent offline? Otherwise i havent seen it
I dont like the way i cant move the chat over the top of the screen too

i did a mistake but i am not an idiot. there are offline people in the channels and also some without any status. when you rightclick>profile on them you only get an error message.

in this
link you can see a screenshot
+ Show Spoiler +
which shows how over half of that channel are offline people. if its really related to that bug and not to just autojoin its possible that this is eu only atm

Ever tried chatting with 2000 people at once? Yeah, that wouldn't go so well. Imagine a tournament stream with no slow mode.

posted your screenshot in the op.

just did a test. its cause of that bug and not because of autojoin.
i have autojoin disabled and just asked my clanbuddy to check my status in the clanchannel which i cant access since the bnet fuckery yesterday. it shows normal online status when im on but when im offline i become one of those greyed out offline corpses at the bottom of the list.
guess its safe to say that its the bug thats causing it and that blizz better fixes it fast or most channels will be mostly offline people soon (most tl channels are already majority offline people)

All they need to do is add mod privileges to each channel like bnet 1. This is honestly just such a half assed attempt to do this. Or even add a kick of you go afk for more than 1 hour. Right now as it is all I have to do is join teamliquid or root-gaming and just leave sc idling for weeks if I choose, and there's no way for me to be removed. Bogus.
