I didn't know they kept the shitty bo1 format for code S in ro16...

I was looking forward to some real matches, dammit...

At least we have boxer/tester on Shakuras, that's gonna be interesting.

Wow, group 1 is a pretty crazy group and no terrible Zerg maps. I'm scared for Boxer. T_T

edit: I guess both Tester and Boxer eliminated Blistering Sands. I'm still not entirely sure why the players hate that map so much, especially as there are 2 Zergs in the group.

You realize this 'bo1' format is pretty much the standard format for any competition ever (well, apart from the weird winner vs. loser thing)? OSL has it, MSL has it, hell, the FIFA World Cup has it, and football is even more volatile than Sc2.

I don't know where this 'everything has to be bo3' thing is coming from. It's not like it's a real Bo1, in the end your results over 3 games are added up just like in a normal bo3, it's just against different players.

Ro16 groups are terribly crazy (A,C and D) although one might speculate that B is a lesser one compared to the others.

There is the counter argument that when you play 3 games against 3 different people there is a tendency for you to "all-in" or "cheese" in all 3 games because the player will not expect it whereas in bo3 you can't do that in all 3 games because the player will have prepared for your specific playstyle to a greater extent.

Yeah and the format has the huge benefit of decreasing the amount of times that a decent (but not bad) player is knocked due to being "unlucky" and having to go against a higher level player early on.

Or problems where a really good player is knocked out just because they go up against someone who rushes/all ins early in the game (say TvZ). Admittedly there are ways to defend against rushes but sometimes it's really difficult (4 player map with close positions).

With the new format, the chance of a player being knocked out due to that is decreased because they'll face other opponents too instead of being stuck with just one opponent.

There is the counter argument that when you play 3 games against 3 different people there is a tendency for you to "all-in" or "cheese" in all 3 games because the player will not expect it whereas in bo3 you can't do that in all 3 games because the player will have prepared for your specific playstyle to a greater extent.

I have not noticed (I may be wrong that is) any differences between the Bo1 and Bo3 format in percentages of all-in and cheeses.

In the Bo3, there were some Bo3+ where a player would try to all in or cheese every game. In Bo1, the amount seems to be relatively the same.

In fact there were a few games where one game just all in or cheesed or did some sneaky strategy against another the whole match (Boxer against his first zerg in season 2 was one I think)

but the 2 other players of the group will be watching very closely when u play. do u seriously think if a player goes for the same all-in in the first 2 matches that his opponent in the third and deciding match wont be prepared for it?

True, but there's also the advantage of the luck of the draw playing less of a role. With a normal Bo3 format, your chances of advancing depend hugely on who you have to play (e.g. Idra having to play MVP last GSL), with this format, you can still advance even if you have the best player in the world in your group.

this and BlackGun.

In a GSL Open the chances of advancing depends on who you draw which sucks like TLO did in GSL2 against SangHo in ro64.
Or Clide vs Leenock in ro64 GSL3.

These are examples of luck of the draw which are very disadvantageous with bo3.

I like it with bo1 because now you need to think about your strategies too because once you use them others can adjust since it's only in less than 30 min that they've witnessed it.

Group D is insanely stacked. The 3 best Terran in the world, IMO, plus ogsMC, the best player in the world period (and, unfortunately for the 3 terran, a PvT master).
