Oh, sweet, sweet revenge.

Here's hoping for a "Who is Incontrol?" discussion before Incontrol gets steamrolle by [insert Korean pro we've never heard of's name]

I have to disagree.

Being in the Korean programing environment can really improve a player, TREMENDOUSLY. Just look at how Jinro improved.

And look how he didn't qualify three times. XD
Still, it'll certainly improve his play, but flying there then competing in a tournament shortly thereafter does not a top player make.

Yea jinro improved relative to what standards though? He still hasn't qualified for GSL, I certainly feel he is capable of doing so if he gets the right brackets and such, but he is also a terran player.

As I said before the korean scene isn't very forgiving to PROTOSS, they tend to struggle in GSL, and have had diminishing representation in the later rounds.

If Tester, Genius, Sangho, oGsInca have trouble, how do you think it's going to be for a player like incontrol?

iNcontrol will probably not go far his first GSL event but I think he definitely has the potential to kick some shit in. His Protoss play has been constantly evolving and changing, and he will finally be away from all the distractions that he has to play around for better or for worse. He has a girlfriend and he has his coaching plus his weightlifting (idk how active he is in that) as well as mods on TL. You can't act like that doesn't really cut into a lot of his practice time.

Conclusion: I wanna see a TLO sized iNcontrol when he comes back from Korea. He should be practicing THAT much SCII

I'd like to argue that there just aren't any good Protoss/the good ones have tough brackets. The top three had really tough brackets( Tester, ogsMC, and that guy who won Blizzcon who's name I forgot), all lost relatively quickly with Tester not eve qualifying.

Why are people even predicting if anyone can qualify as the current GSL setup qualification is about 90% luck of who is in your bracket and the rest is enough skill to make it through. I mean anyone on that list can qualify if they get a good enough bracket and the opposite is true. Any one of those people could easily wind up in a bracket of death and get knocked out by someone like Foxer Clide Rainbow....

People can look for any type of argument they want, but the bottom line is in s1 there were 3 protoss in the ro8, zero advanced. In s2 there were 3 protoss in the ro16, 1 advanced to the ro8, and then did not advance any further.

It's ok to see if people got unlucky or had bad showings or what not, but you shouldn't disregard the fact that the koreans may just be better at dealing with protoss and exploiting whatever weaknesses it may have.

That's really true, but I thought they were implementing some sort of seeding? Or was that a rumor?

Totally. But I think Protoss is also one of the most closed off races. You rarely see deviance from gateway units>Robo units> Templar units. So dealing with them becomes significantly easier as you can effectively blind counter them.

Would seeding matter? All the new foreigners would be unseeded and face against seeded people anyway.

Yeah, I suppose. Still some more organization would be nice.

I think anybody can make it far at gsl. Look at foxer, brand new player makes it all the way to grand finals. Anybody can go far with the right drive and practice. That would mean that we wouldn't need GSL and would have a pro-scene of our own...which judging by the increasing interest in e-sport in the west may not be as far as some people think.

Qualifying for GSL is so luck-based.

Single Elimination Best of threes tell you next to nothing about player skill (See: Fruitdealer vs FoxeR and IdrA vs LotzePrime and Tester and Julyzerg losing in qualifiers).

100% agree. And Fruitdealer, Foxer, Clide, Rainbow, and Tester could all end up in the same bracket, giving a lot of other people 'free' tickets into the tournament.

Stop predicting who will and won't make GSL.

The entire point of these first 3 seasons is to create the seeds for the real tournament that hasn't happened yet. Anyone who makes it to the round of 8 each season is seeded for the big tournament.
