Obviously it is hard to be down 2:0 or 2:1, but I don't understand why people think it takes away from the hype. One of the most exciting things in sports is a come from behind victory. Think about Nada at this MLG, or Idra vs MC. I remember in 1996 the Yankees lost the first 2 games in New York, and had to go down to Atlanta. You didn't here Yankees fans asking that the first 2 games be forgotten to make the series more exciting. Same think in hockey in the US. A 4:0 sweep will always seem anticlimactic (see the GSL). But it is not at all uncommon to come back from 2:0 down in a Bo7, and so awesome to watch.

Like sooo many people have said, it often just straight up ruins the finals. In fact theres such a high chance that the finals will be an extended series, it's stupid. No matter how you slice it it's unfair to the previous winner.

It's almost like the opposite of the "loser picks" map rule, the previous winner has an advantage, let's give him a bigger advantage! Pile it up!

TT;;

This is why MLG finals aren't remembered as well as any other (it's not ONLY because of that of course, theres no chance to hype the finals as it takes place right there the very same night as the last day of MLG), because let's say NaDa is playing BoxeR in the finals, and NaDa is up 2-0.

Even if BoxeR equalizes it, he's been fatigued from playing those two games, and NaDa might have figured out more about his playstyle in those two games. Of course, most extended series don't even end up being equalized so >,>....

I mean, GSL finals are at least known for being awful because of all the stupid mind-gaming people do (Maybe InCa just decided to go DT's 4 times in a row on the fly??), IEM and NASL (the one that has taken place) finals are known for being really awesome, MLG finals just aren't known at all.

Doesn't matter if the rule is fair. It kills the hype.

How exciting would the super bowl be if one team got a two touchdown lead at the beginning of the game, because of a regular season confrontation weeks or months in the past?

I have yet to watch an MLG finals, in spite watching at least a dozen matches from each of the last few events.

Your example is of the NFL, which uses a single elim format, so its not comparable to double elim.
We wouldnt even be able to use the NCAA bbal tournament for comparison because thats single elim.

It should be up to the players and from the general consensus, they disagree with the rule as well.

If MLG ignore the players and fans on this matter, then who are they trying to please by keeping the extended series?

Anyone know if they have polled the players about the extended series rule ?

MLG has been using the extended series for so long and for every game the hits the pro circuit. I have a hard time seeing them change that.

Can we please fix this retarded rule? I don't understand how it makes sense at all....

The reward for winning against someone is getting placed higher in the bracket. They shouldn't get another advantage.

Very glad they haven't changed this rule yet. Otherwise idra may have been eliminated by cheese.

What if Idra was down to a cheeser 2-0? Dumb post.

Idra's always been not in favor of the extended series, spoiler before my next statement regarding idra vs boxer mlg orlando.

But the rule just saved his ass in his matches in MLG orlando vs Boxer, i wonder if he's in favor of them yet or only when they work in his favor...

Extended ensures the better player wins, Boxer ran out of silly cheeses and as such lost.

Well probably not. If it was a normal Bo3 with both players starting on 0, Boxer would probably play more straight up. But Boxer knows he needs 4 wins and Idra 2. So he just wanted to end some of the games early. That's my thought

Idra been cheesed 3 times. 1 or 2 time is ok but being cheesed 3 times in a row? Is Idra can adapt his play seeing his opponment is doing exclusivley cheesy move ??

It's Idra's fault in this case and boxer knew Idra cant really adapt his play... and thats why he cheesed him all the time.

Boxer really deserved the victory on this serie tbh

Who is the worst player? The one that cheeses 3 times, or the one that can't even defend simple ladder cheeses 3 times in a row?

If you know your opponent is terrible at defending early game cheeses, anyone would do it in a big tournament like this; just like in any other sports, as long as you're not violating any rules, play to win.

So lets say Boxer won the first set 2-0 and then Idra wins the first 3 of the next set. So now the score is at 2-3. Then boxer cheeses and wins 2 more game. If you think idra is the better player he would have won without the extended series rule in this set up but he lost because of the extended series rule. You're post is pretty ignorant.
