Interview of SeleCT after he wins the Undeniable Tournament #5. He talks about his tournament win and his biggest upcoming events. Check it out below.
Bio: Name - Kyunghyun Ryoo Age - 22 Nationality - Korean
Favorites: Unit - Ghost Unit to Kill - Stalker Match-Up - TvT Player - Jaedong from SC1 Player to play against - Sjow Thing to do besides gaming - Watch Korean Drama
Interview:
Hey Select! To start, could you give a brief description of yourself and your gaming background?
Select: Hi my name is Kyunghyun Ryoo and I'm korean but living in the USA. I used to be war3 progamer back in the days and also won WCG twice playing Dawn of War.
You finished first today in our Undeniable Tournament #5, winning $75 for first place! How do you feel?
Select: Haha I finally won the tournament. Ive tried twice before but i failed both times. I finally feel calm.
Any players you thought were particularly tough in the tournament?
Select: I think Fenix was the toughest opponent in the tournament, but he lost to Silver.
What has been your most gratifying SC2 Tournament win?
Select: Zotac Cup #21 and also the TL Open #1 Tournament.
You have been climbing the ladder quite well in the short while that SC2 has been out. Also done amazing in a ton of great tournaments. Any big tournaments coming up for you?
Select: I'm going to MLG in Washington D.C., and right after the MLG I have Blizzcon. Which means I need to play tons of practice games.
Anybody you think will be tough to beat at MLG?
Select: Huk, and most other Terrans. TvT is actually hard. =)
What place in your division / points are you currently sitting at?
Select: #1 in my divison with 2,075 points.
Over 2000 points! That's amazing. Happen to know your win %?
Select: 71%
Whats your best and worst match-up right now?
Select: I don't really have a best and worst match up, everything is almost the same. But vs Zerg is my weakest because there is not many decent Zerg on the US Server unlike the Korean Server, so I can't practice.
Well, thanks for playing in the UT5 and taking the time to interview with me SeleCT! Good luck in all your future games and tournaments. I'll see you at MLG.
|
Wow! What a great interview! Thanks!
It's really intressing how Silver is able to beat some big names but I dont see many of his games, I want to see more of this guy.
SeleCT is so awesome at over 2k points on the ladder, I only have 1k, thats half of his!
|
Select is really good, however I just am not a fan at all. I think it's part of his "Korean demeanor", he just doesn't have the flair and personality that a lot of other top foreign players have. Nice interview though :D

uh, he just said he is going to blizzcon, does this mean the american invitees were really based on ladder rankings or what?
blizzard should just release the list of attendees now before someone 'leaks' the information eventually.
|
I do hope they release the Blizzcon attendees as well. Hopefully they will soon.
Also, replays are coming for SeleCT's UT5 finals matches against Spades.

Didnt they say that all along?

Awesome. Huge fan of SeleCT. ive been lucky to be in the right place at the right time and obs a few of his games. Very, very down to earth and nice guy!
Gogo fighting!
Weird that his favorite mu is TvT! i guess thats what it takes to be at the top on bnet... gotta LOVE tvt!!
|
select is incredibly good
blows my mindddd
|
Fun guy to watch. Has a lot of entertaining builds and his mechanics are very solid.
|
ohhhhhhhhhhh he's korean, this explains everything
cool interview, albeit short
look forward to seeing more of this guy
|
When the Top 200 came out I tried to track down some replays of SeleCT but for a top tier player his games are surprisingly hard to find.

Wow, how did I not know that SelecT was Korean? Goddamn. What a guy though, "I feel calm".
|
I met select at MLG.. He is really a great guy. Thanks for the interview Jer!
|
Decent interview. Make it longer next time! Hope Blizzcon wasn't all based on ladder rankings. Not all of the top ladder players are as good as other possible invitees imo.
|
lets come back to Korea and pwnzzz in the GSL !
|
I'll make sure to get a longer interview next time! Time was against us last night sadly.
SC2replayed.com seems to be having some issues, I'll get up the replays as soon as possible!

It's true though, at least quantity-wise. Europe is slightly better, but Korea is tops in that regard, no questions about it.
|
I also met Select at MLG Raleigh, we waited in line the morning of day 1, very nice guy. :D
|
|
^^ Those guys have too much time on their hands.
Go SeleCT.

Nice to finally know about his gaming history. No wonder he's so great at RTS
|
LOL, they MAD. Is this about the same SeleCT? hahaha
|
I don't want to be that guy but...
Anybody you think will be tough to beat at MLG?
Select: Huk, and most other Terrans. TvT is actually hard. =)
I can see that statement derailing this thread pretty quickly. Maybe I'm reading too much into it :/.
|
I'm surprised he doesn't play in the korean servers at all. I mean he does speak some korean iirc. Maybe lag is too bad? Also was he born in US or Korea? Just wondering.

err...then the part about no zergs to practice against makes no sense.
|
"TvT is actually hard."
At least he's honest. ;>
Good luck SeleCT.
|
If you scroll halfway down you'll see seleCT on the this list. In DOW he was considered pretty unstoppable. WCG HoF

Someone mentioned that he was born in Korea, but is living in the U.S. for school.
|
This guy is a fucking beast in T v T. I'm like 1-5 against him.
|
SeleCT does have some amazing TvT. I don't think Zerg is his worst match-up either, even though he says he doesn't get much practice.

Makes quite a bit of sense seeing as how he lives in america so it's easier to play americans when you factor in time zones, tournaments and teams for practice games.
He's such a solid player, but I'd really like to see more games of him vsP or vsZ. Everything I see is him playing TvT.
|
his tvt is awesome, but no style suited for any noob or lowish player (like, below 1.500 diamond with over 300 apm...)
and yes, he was an absolute beast in dow. when the 2nd wcg in dow was on the horizon, one race was considered the strongest, clearly superior to the others on a pro level. select switched to this race 1 or 2 weeks before wcg and proceeded to roflstomp every1 else with it. his mechanics were just vastly superior to those of the competition.
i really like the guy, and his playstyle. its nice to watch, although impossible to copy.

Here are two of his games vs Spades in the Undeniable Tournament #6 Finals.
Game 1 - Played on iCCup Enigma - SeleCT won. Game 2 Game 3
Undeniably Gamer also featured SeleCT in our first LND Show Match against MurDeR. Here are the links to the replays.
Game 1 Game 2 Game 3 Game 4
Hope everyone enjoys the replays, SeleCT is a great player. =)

Oh trust me if you knew him from dota he had plenty of flair and personality

2 Names are already leaked.
|
Lol @ korean sc2 pro living in the US. seems so wrong!
|
He is korean-american right? I'm assuming that, but you know how well assuming works out.
I thought it was funny that his most feared match up was vs terran. I think it's obvious terran needs a slight nerf.
|
Hehe when me and my friend was playing DoW we were top 10 worldwide and beat him easily :D Evidently he continued playing and got goooood! btw, dow sucked hardcore after first exp, didnt fix any bugs only added imbalance.
Nice interview, 2000+ now thats really sweet. Grats on tourney win!
|
Erm what kind of entertaining builds has he actually executed? From the few games that I've seen of him, he mostly just spams MnMs.. Agree that he doesn't have any flair at all, especially when compared to terrans like TLO
|
I am so proud of myself for being a real id friend of seleCT. He is truely a talented progamer.
|
He's a great player but this isn't a very good interview. Half the questions asked were incredibly shallow and the other half can be looked up in a minute anyways.
