Agreed. I tried to change the subject ...
So ... if Day 9 were to play in an MLG, how well would he do? He's obviously better than HD, but I have no idea what his skill level is.

I would say not very far because he has literally zero time to practice between casting at different events and still attending school. Though if he did have time to practice for many hours a day he can easily be a top 8 player.

I absolutely love the way Tyler phrased the defense of the extended series. It was the first and only way I've heard it explained where I suddenly understood it, and could agree with it.
That said, I think both arguments are perfectly valid.
I think viewing it as a more in depth skill test between the two players as a series of 7 makes sense. I also think that viewing them as separate instances of the in-tournament match-ups as best of 3's makes sense.
I personally lean towards the best-of-7 logic, but prefer the separate best-of-3 from a viewing experience, where we re-gain the tension.
Example: (Mind you, I'm fairly retarded and this is probably just straight up wrong mathematically.) MLG Dallas concluded with Jinro being in a position of needing to win 1 game before losing like what? 4? Something ridiculous? So as a Jinro fan, I was feeling no stress or excitement really. (Making the painfully anti-climactic 10 minute game after 2 hours of buildup even less exciting.)
I think Tyler gave the extended series the defense it needed to be considered valid in any way beyond just 'its what we do for Halo' and that is good, particularly with the theory behind someone actually losing a series because of the order in which the games were played.
That said, both seem totally valid and have their upsides and downsides. Would it be insane for MLG to have a vote? Online, or on TeamLiquid, since we're so good at polls these days to pick one way or the other for each year, or for all time? Maybe have the players vote on it for the next season?
Also - Day[9] needs to have a Funday Monday challenge week, where players must complete all previous challenges in a single game. - 4v4 - TZP + (R-P) - Protoss must announce carriers, cannot expand until they get one. - Terran cannot announce marines, marauders, medivacs. If there are two terran players, they cannot announce the same unit. - Zerg cannot use queens. If there are two Zerg players, they cannot announce the same unit. - One of the players on the team must expand every 4 minutes. (if all 4 did, no map would work.) - Enemies must be killed in alphabetical order. I think the challenge should at least be thrown out there officially, as well as perhaps a keyword to include in the description to ensure it makes it in if a game is ever won under those conditions.

Well it's a tournament so you can get unlucky with the draw even if we did know exactly how good he is, so asking how he'd do without seeing a bracket is hard. With the fact he presumably practices less than the other guys and he has the disadvantage of playing random top 24 would be a great finish you'd think.

I don't really think day9 could keep up with the current US crowd.
Last time I saw him play I think he lost to artosis and the only game he won he did a 2 gate before zealot nerf on steppes of war.

Wonder how many points he has on the ladder. Not that that proves anything.

If he had the time I'm sure he would keep up with the top American palyers fairly easy. That chapter of his life is over and he's proven to us that he can be a top(US) gamer if he tries, so I don't know what you're on about. Imo he's the #1 caster atm which is all that matters .

Day9 is such a private gamer I doubt we'll ever know what he is rated.
Maybe when Starcraft 3 comes out he'll add "#18 Grand Master's League" (or whatever) to his list of accomplisments though, who knows.

Pretty sure Day9's past (BW) achievements speak for themself.
1st place WCG PanAmerican Championship 2007 2nd place WCG USA 2006 1st place WCG USA 2005 2nd place WCG USA 2004
I don't believe we've seen any Star1 player fail terribly in Star2 so skill wise he would be competitive if he spent the time and effort.

After listening to this nov 9 one in full, I just went back and listened to some parts again. I LOVED this podcast. I haven't laughed this hard in a LONG time.
incontrol describing his scanned DTs game=gold Idra explaining the origins of his name and incontrol taking over from there=gold Tyler's description of the finalists in gsl2=gold ragging on artosis (no offense man, tasteless couldn't do it without you)=gold tyler describing nonynut=gold everyone ragging on idra about zergs always winning gsl and nestea being unbreakable=fucking platinum
damn. So much good stuff in this one.

There should be a commentator/caster tournament for shits and giggles. Artosis would finally win something! Ba-dump-cha!

lol, i think day9 would be a good player if he wanted to, but he is too busy with school and casting T_T

Day[9] always beats Artosis.

As a spectator i hate the best of 7 because one guy is already 2 games down or whatever. I see that people want it to be treated like an entire series, but as a viewer it doesn't feel like that. It feels exactly the same as i'd feel if i went into a Vikings Colts Superbowl with the Colts starting off with 14 points because they beat the Vikings 14-0 in their regular season game.
As a viewer it suuuuuuuuuuuucks.
Edit: hilarious episode btw. So much good stuff i feel like i'm doing it a disservice by only commenting on that rule thing.

That's actually a very good analogy, and sums up my feeling pretty well.
Also, I just recently started listening to these casts and I love them! Keep up the great work!

He plays like 1 game a day. Day9 was an amazing BW player wasn't he? That doesn't go away, when he practices 8 hours a day again I think he would be one of the best NA players.

I am absolutely itching to know what chat looked like during Tyler's name discussion, because I was in tears that whole time. Strange, how one can laugh so hard without even knowing what is being laughed at in the first place.
