Either he went to them asking to partner or they offered him, but it must have somehow been in JP's interest to make the partnership. There are different ways you can view it but I think this is an important perspective to keep in mind. yeah them being in agreement is why i was confident that it'd still be only sc2 exclusively, but after hearing more on the matter it does seem like thats not the case... either way im still confident that unless jp has completely fucking lost control of the show then it will still be fantastic.
Well, JP got into the community by doing KOTH showmatches for MLG to begin with, so he's always been involved with MLG (as far as SC2 goes). And since he's gotten officially employed by MLG since then, this is the natural progression of the show. As far as JP goes, I can't imagine him getting a better deal; Integrating his biggest project with his official job.
Also I can't really see JP losing control of the show, but it will probably have to do some adjustments to better fit in with MLG's other content, be it language, drinking or whatnot (I'm not really familiar with the other shows that MLG produces) since it's now a part of MLG Live.

State of the games success has been built upon openness i believe, so limiting language etc. etc. is gonna take away from the show.
Also gotta agree with djWHEAT here, don't look too much into it, JP rejected complexity, and EG's offers. He could have just cashed in, but he cared enough to say no to them for whatever reason. I say good luck to him, and I'm looking forward to his show.
djWHEAT, why you killing esports bro? why you all dedicating 5-6 hours a night to esports? wtf is wrong with you bro, don't you know your killing esports?

I think a lot of people have this romantic notion of what 'professionalism' is, and how business is 'supposed to work'.
Unless you have an occupation which has a professional association that serves as a governing body (for example, architects in Vancouver is governed by the AIBC*) than the 'rules of engagement' in most business relationships are pretty fluid and messy.
It's not like there's an established code of honour where people unhilt their swords and take turns slapping each other with white gloves. Most business is conducted over the phone or a cheap lunch. Miscommunication is the norm.
My point is, it is very easy for a business to screw another business over inadvertently, despite both parties having all the best intentions in the world. It could simply be a matter of one company overcommitting to an alternate plan (which EG insists is the case).
It appears to me, an outsider, that SOTG did pretty much get screwed over. There's no denying that JP ended up with the short end of the stick on this one. Was EG opportunistic? Yes. Were their actions evil, conniving and malicious? I don't think so.
Anyway, I expect JP to bounce back, and I'll be here to support the show when he does.
*It's important to note that even occupations with governing associations try to skirt 'the rules' constantly to gain a competitive advantage.

I sure hope they will have more EU pros on the show in the future, so there is some more knowledge about the EU scene (:

That way everyone has the time to say something (with more you just can't hear everyone.) and with less people you don't always have enough people for a reasonable discussion. My wishlist: JP: Obviously he is going to be a part of it. Tyler: My favorite "old" pillar. I think they should always be a part of the show. The other shows always had a little bias towards the American players, I'd like some more Europeans in it (I am from Europe, so that is the scene I am more interested in. Also, the European scene is better and in the previous State of the Games it was sometimes a little sad nobody knew what was going on there. So what I would want: - At least 1 European for every show.
- 1 Guy like HotBid, Kennigit, Carmac etc. someone who is not a player but still involved in the scene.
- 1 Guy from Korea. At the moment this can be HuK, Jinro, the FXO guys and maybe even someone like MC. In the future Naniwa, Thorzain, SaSe and Fenix could also join!
This way you have someone from every scene present and probably people from different teams. I am so excited for the new show! You won't get a European unless he lives in NA or KR. SOTG starts at 5 am in Central Europe. Loads of people, including myself at one point in my life, have to get up way before 5 am to get to work. I don't see any reason a player/e-sports personality could not get up at like 4:30 once a week to be a part of this amazing show. Lol. If I was a pro gamer I definitely would not wake up/stay up till 5 am just to be on a podcast. Get Real!
Oh god, all I can think about are those bic razor commercials now. fuck you.
And I can't wait for sotg to start back up. So excited. I hope incontrol is back, if he isn't what will happen to the other brotoss? :/

Well, I for one would appreciate actual 'state of THE game,' not state of the gameS, but actual metagame stuff FROM SC2 with other SC2 stuff thrown in.
|
I've spent the last 30 minutes browsing around for the awesome moments of state of the game somewhat compiled. I recall so so soo many awesome moments that I can't wait to relive. I was wondering if anyone know if such a thing exists?

I am pretty sure that SOTG will retain its own flavour. When sundance was on, he maintained a very casual environment on SOTG. I think MLG will not cause too large of a change.

Can't wait love that they partnered up with MLG, I love some of their personalities. Either way I hope they don't remove any of the old members.

<3 itmeJP. Dude, I cannot express enough how glad I am that you just kept your nose out of all of this. Very professional and classy. Your insight could have easily swayed the masses one way or the other, but saying nothing at all says a lot about you. Good on you to keep business personal. Plus you bring good news!!!
Also <3 Liquid'Tyler for being Tyler and completely not keeping his nose out of all of this. I went through a few pages just reading your posts because they are hilarious. You have your opinions and they are wholly yours. I understand the public figure idea, but this is TL. If a sponsor wants to read thousands of pages of threads to see how professional we are here, then good on them. Say what you think and if people are too offended then maybe they should just realize you are just another guy on the forums. What you do or do not like does not change their lives one bit more than they let it, so the onus is on them to decide how much your support or dislike of an idea or entity matters to them. Also, if you could, please win something! I'm always pulling for you. GL.
Anyway, I can't wait for Monday (though probably Tuesday over here)

My hopes for the new/returning pillars in order of importance.
1. Day[9] 2. Tyler 3. Catz 4. Tastosis (I can dream, right?)

Hope day9 stays and somehow MC...I don't know how though

I hope the pillars remain players. This is state of the game. I'd like to see professional players discuss the game not casters or people behind the scenes, they have much less knowledge usually. That doesn't mean they can't be a common guest on the show because they do bring good info to the table, but LO3 is more for that kind of stuff it seems.
