We've had SC2 for a while now. Most of us are playing online after having finished the campaign, and a somewhat stable metagame is starting to emerge. So, having taken in the experience, was Starcraft 2 all you hoped for, or are you disappointed with this hugely anticipated sequel?

Just curious! Ofc the poll will be somewhat biased as it isn't posted on the BW forums, but yea... I just wanna see how happy we all are with this game now that it's been out for a while :-)
Edit: Bah, the choices get reordered by how many votes they get. But it should be fairly obvious how they lie on the good-to-bad scale anyway I hope

Best RTS since BW. Nothing is likely to change that since no company can afford to develop and support an RTS like Blizzard can.

Being a huge BW fan I still look to it as the perfect "classic" game but surely SC2 can live up to those same high standards over time and after everyone is settled with how things are, or atleast are willing to admit when one race wins over another that its fair lol. Honestly though the real success of the game will come from the players/community and in the end it could be the best game on earth but if everyone isn't somewhat insync as with BW than it wont end having such a long lifespan like the original. Its all up to us

In my mind SC2 certainly improves on BW in quite a few ways. Unfortunately Battlenet 2.0 is really bad. Which is a shame.

And also how can people think SC2 as of now lives up to BW's legacy LOL. OP should add a new option to the poll: "I have never followed the BW pro scene."

Never played brood war.. but I think I wouldve liked broodwar more than starcraft 2.. I like harder games.. I think SC2 is a good game.. but age of empires 2: age of kings is still my favorite RTS

i think its amazing and fun, but i think bw still has it beat by a little. Thats not SC2's fault though, bw has simply been out for much longer, has been patched, has an expansion and a lot of following and rigorous play by progamers. So while i love SC2, we are just gonna have to wait until we see what type of "WOW" moments are going to come from it and whether it can rock the crowd as much as bw did. SC2 still has a TON of time and two expansions to prove itself though, its looking good for SC2.

Never played BW myself, but i am completely hooked on sc2. So i guess that means that the game lives up to its legacy.

Probably the best shit I've ever played, especially me coming from FPS genre I didn't play a lot of BW or WC3. Feels solid, I just can't wait to see what people invent at the GSL/IEM huge money tournaments :D we're bound to see some cool shit.

It's a great game, I think it lives up to BW's legacy. I however didn't feel it stood up to WC3's SP. So I'm disappointed in that and I don't feel like there's much variety in the game in terms of art assets, even if there is a great deal of them. They all feel washed out and the rusty/dark colors are boring to look at after awhile for me.
I'm not really sure if the game itself will have the depth Brood War has, I think we'll have to wait for another expansion or two to get to that level and years of patching. It's still very good for a release game in terms of balance.

With some clever patching and good communication with the community it'll get there. It looks promising at the moment, I'm still not entirely sure if I'm enjoying sc2 as much as I am right now simply due to the fact that its "fresh and new" though. It's definitely one of the best RTS games ever made, and tournaments popping up everywhere with cash prizes, streams etc helps a lot too

I hate to be the one to say this, but there are so many BW players butthurt about people leaving it for SC2. BW is an AMAZING game and fantastic to watch, so just enjoy it, no need to be a partypooper.

It's not exactly fair to compare SC2 to BW since SC2 isn't a complete game and BW is. When both of the expansions are released and all of the units and game features are finalized, then we can start comparing BW to SC2.
Until then my stance is SC2 is the best competitive RTS since BW, but it's not better than BW.

Umm I honestly couldn't care less about people leaving it. the korean pro-scene is still there so why would i care if some random iccup players switch. but anyway who actually watched professional BW would know that current SC2 gameplay doesn't hold a candle to BW.

Well since starcraft first became good after its expansion, I'm pretty patient given they have two more expansions before they're "done".
Its already a really good game though.

I actually keep a list of my favorite games of all time, including titles such as Guilty Gear, Final Fantasy Tactics, Suikoden, League of Legends and Front Mission 3.
After looking up and down said list, I have to say, Starcraft 2 is at the top of it.
Hence, my vote: "It's AMAZING! Best game I've ever played."

I voted that it lives up to BW legacy. There are issues with it, but one has to remember that it's a new game and there's at least 2 expansions coming for it. The campaign is FAR more fun than SC1 and most of the game has been improved.
Will it become a legendary game like SC1? Sure. Will it become as huge of an e-sports game? Maybe, hard to say for at least 2-3 years, but I would guess probably not. That, IMO, doesn't mean it doesn't live up to BWs legacy though.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say results 1, 3, and 4 are mostly by people who have never played or watched BW. SC2, in its own right, is a really phenomenal game, but I just don't see it having the lifespan and captivation that BW still has. SC2 does have flaws though, and I hope Blizzard continues to improve the game well after the next two expansions.

I'm a bw player from the start, had few longer breaks from it but still always watched the pro scene.
SC2 is an awesome game, some people are just afraid that our beloved bw pro scene will disappear. I can understand them but I think the change is welcome. We have played bw for 12 years, change isn't a bad thing as sc2 IS a great game. Despite some problems with bnet 2.0

Well I feel like its only lived up half of BW's legacy and thats fine cause theres 2 more games and not all of the features are installed yet. Once that happens then yes it will probably surpass Broodwar.

The big problem with Starcraft 2 is how Blizzard screwed up the Zerg (both in the multiplayer and in the lore). There can be no simple 'fix' to it either.
Heart of the Swarm will either make or break Starcraft 2. It was the Brood War expansion that cemented Starcraft, so the question depends on whether the expansion will cement Starcraft 2.

- Horribad optimization (Carmack could have the same game run on a pentium 3 with a 256 mb GPU)
- Ridiculously unstable & insecure Bnet (got hacked 3 weeks BEFORE release lol)
- Laughable campaign (casuals and fanboys got their share of shiny cinematics with porn-grade unsynchronized voice overs & bullshit re-hashed "epic story" so it satisfied 90% of the audience)
- Multiplayer & UMS is kind of fun if you ignore all these idiots constantly QQing about imbalance every time they lose.

SCBW was an amazing game, had a huge following, and it may be that nothing can fill its shoes. Ever. It'll remain my favorite game of all time just because of all the hours I sunk into it.
That being said, SC2 is a fantastic game in its own right. Blizzard really delivered a quality product in SC2 (aside from bnet concerns, but that may yet be resolved with the coming months). Will it leave as big of a mark as brood war? Only time can tell. My gut feeling is that it has the potential to be as great as brood war.

Aside from some balance choices from Blizzard I think its an amazing game, and it gives me way more pleasure to watch pro vods of sc2 than BW nowdays.
