Anyone else experience this?
I had the same thing once I started out in plat. After close to 40 or 50 games it stopped tho. Now its mostly even or the opponent is slightly favored.

Whats the point in being in a silver league if i play against top gold????
Put me in gold alrdy >-< Winning 50/50 isn't good enough I'm almost positive. If you're clearly beating (much higher than 50%) the lower spectrum of the next league without trouble, THEN it promotes you. If you clearly don't belong in a league it will move you. Otherwise, if you're going 50/50, you're exactly where you need to be. Being in the top of a league is SUPPOSED to match you with the lower portion of the next league. In the end, it's putting you where you end up winning 50% of your matches. I understand this but I am winning half of the games vs the top 10 gold players..all other silvers and low lvl golds i dnt seem to have a problem with. My last 3 matches were 3 gold, out of which 2 where ranked 8 and 6 and. What i mean is if im silver i should be playing mainly silver opponents right? I might play 1 our of every 5, rest are gold and not bottom half, it just seems too random! Wait till you see the skill discrepancy within platinum.
As a top8 plat player, I had no trouble getting into plat from being initially placed in gold. I'm pretty sure the way it works is if you win all your matches against favored opponents in the next league, you get promoted. I don't think any true plat players had trouble getting out of gold at all. If you're stuck in your league, it just means that you're not ready to advance yet. Start being skeptical once you win 80-100% of your games vs top golds.
I know that it was an official statement from blizz that the matchmaking system routinely places you against higher players to check if you're ready or not. Not to mention the ominous secret evaluation number thats attached to you.

I think the system isn't based on your win to lose ratio, it is probably based on your end game score. After winning 5 easy placement matches, I was placed into platinum. (but I suck) I lost a few games and when I won a game I got demoted to gold.
|
hmmm I won 5 in a row in silver and I'm still just stuck at #1
|
Last reset, game crashed once during placement and reset server during the last match and I landed in low gold. 3-2 15 to 20 games later and I was #1 gold. After like 15 more games playing versus only platinum players I was instantly boosted to #7 platinum. It was coincidentally the same time My 'ELO rating' was at 1190 (so over 1200 after the last win) and then my plat 'elo' was 1062 or something.
And I usually ask people rank at the start of games and I find the match making to be fairly random at times, when not in high platinum (Where I only seem to play other platinum).
As far as the placement matches, It starts you off versus another unranked for the 1-2 matches, then copper/bronze, silver, silver/gold, gold/plat. In other words, your matches get increasingly more difficult during placement. If it's the start of a reset/wipe I think the record plays a factor in who you play and then placement goes according to win/loss and who you lost to or something.

I think the reason it Promotes on loses and Demotes on wins is it's already determined if you should be moved but is checking if you should move 2 leagues. (Such as Gold to Bronze, or Silver to Plat) It wants to see just how awesome or fail you are before moving you. Just a guess though.

So I go 0-4 in my first four placement matches, am I going to be matched against a gold/plat player in my 4th match? I doubt that since it serves no purpose toward placement if I get crushed like will almost assuredly happen; and if I win, then something either went wrong in the first four games or in this last game. Either way it's worthless in determining whether I fit in copper, bronze, or silver (I doubt you'd get in silver going 1-4, but I can't say I know for sure).
What if there's no one else doing placement matches at the time? Does the system just break down if a new player starts when there's no one else playing placement? I'd certainly hope this isn't the case, though probably no one but Blizzard can really say.
Certainly if you're winning playing progressively more difficult opponents makes sense, but I don't believe it's possible for one person to have tested who you play against in placement thoroughly enough to make any conclusions. I don't believe there's enough data available to anyone but Blizzard at the moment to make any conclusions (though if there is I'd love to see it).

I always get 20ish points from a win, but only lose 7ish points with a loss. I'm in gold and a loss to a silver player only loses me 7ish points. The ladder is not zero sum, meaning if I lose 7 points, the other player doesn't gain just 7 points back, they gain more. With this system won't everyone eventually climb in points and make the platinum league top heavy compared to copper/silver/gold?
Also, the other player is always favored, it does not matter what league they are in, I have not once been favored.
I am gold, and I'm a d- noob.

I don't play that much, like 3 or 4 games a day, so there are probably a lot of people with more points than me and I win around 2/3 of my games. Idk maybe only favored opponents are chosen until you reach a certain win rate or get too much points and thus wait too long?

If anyone wants info. I went 3-2 placed into silver then played until I was 11-12.
From there I had a 10 game streak to 21-12 and on the way was promoted at 18-12 to gold. Then at 24-14 promoted to plat.
Weird thing was every single opponent was favored and towards the end you know if your going to advance soon if all your opponents come from the league above.
|
I think someone said you had to be X amount of points above the player/team below you in order to rank up. I don't really have a way to test this, seeing as my random play is... random. Got some pretty bad draws with rushes, and ended up in Bronze =/ But hey.. 25 games from now, I might end up in Plat! xD

I had a 12 win streak in copper league using void ray/zealot strat and then once I finally lost (13th game lost to cannon rush that I didn't notice quick enough) it moved me to bronze. I don't get why it would promote me for a loss but it did.

I basically did a similar "experiment" (otherwise known as multiple disconnects during my placement) and it took me like finally LOSING a game to get promoted to Platinum. I was on a 13 win streak, #1 in my gold bracket by like 150 points, and when I lost a game it promoted me. Baffling.
(edit: Looks like the guy above me had a similar experience. Sounds like a bug to me.)

i played you, when u were on 7 wins, and i beat you. have replay so your lil "theory" experiment fails on ur logic.

Yeah I've noticed many high level platinums got there by doing cheese. It can be frustrating when you lose to cheese but I always remind myself in 10 weeks or so after I can hold off all this crap I will be decently skilled and they will still be doing cheese..

Does anyone know btw if the rating value is comparable betwen leuges of tha same bracket? That if someone have say 1152 in gold, and a freinds of his have 1450 in gold, is that comparable to the 1450 player being better then his freind?
I know no one really knows how to compare ratings between leuges, but i tought if they maybe said someting within a leuge.

i think 5 games for placement is a little unreliable anyways, i know a guy who won two of his 5 games because the opponent dc/ed, he ended up with a 4:1 ratio and was placed in gold...poor fellow didnt last long in there

i went 4-1 in 2v2 AT today.. got placed in silver? any ideas why
