Me and a friend were playing on an account and he was 5-7 in Gold league. I went 15-1 on that account before they promoted us to Platinum. I was on a 10 game winning streak and still surprised they didn't promote us yet.

Copper league players with copper league skills will stay in the copper league. The fact that you moved up to Platinum after throwing your placement matches so quickly is a testament that the system is working correctly. Gotta agree with this. Another interesting question would be : do peoplego DOWN in league, like being placed in gold and by losing going back to silver ? Not sure if anyone around here will testify on this :p -Kerm

Anyway, my experiences with the AMM have churned out similar results. I deliberately went into a Copper 2v2 league (mass ravens in all placement matches lol) and after I went about 3-0 all of my opponents have been Silver or higher 2v2. I'm going to see how much an impact a losing streak has on the opponents that I am pitted against and how long it takes to demotion when I have the time. EDIT: Sorry, was referring to micropede for the 'troll' statement. Didn't notice that much time had passed between my beginning the post and its finish.

It skews you rating towards your hidden rating: hidden > shown + win => You get more points to get to the region you should be This helps to get ladders back into order after resets etc. has a few more features in WoW to prevent things like a top PvP player teams up with a new player in 2v2 league and just farms that new one to the highest rating so he can buy all items.

I was on a horrible losing streak pre last reset and was sitting on the bottom of Plat. Finally won and was like yea, it's turning around, then I get the message that I'm being demoted to Gold. Didn't make sense. it does: you lose a lot to plat players => hidden rating goes down => you start playing against gold players => lose some, win some => so game thinks youre better in gold than in plat because youre doing better (logically) vs weaker opponents (: ofc i dont know how it works exactly, but getting demoted after winning vs some lower-league-guy could make sense :D

I think the AMM must use some kind of system like TrueSkill. Where you have both a skill and uncertainty ranking tied to your account.

I, too, noticed that after dropping in one of my placement matches, ranking from gold to plat was really quick. Only a few games needed. IMO league placement/advancement is quite accurate. Even though they're missing a league or two above plat, what they have currently implemented is quite accurate.

Edit: if not you, then someone else will have the same problem. I think this type of thing will fix itself to some degree though once the skill levels start to really differentiate. In BW an A player will almost always beat a B player who will almost always beat a C player who will almost always beat a D player. It seems in SC2 that the ranks below platinum are quite a bit closer than that, and as a result you have top silver players who are just as good as any gold player.

If you're clearly beating (much higher than 50%) the lower spectrum of the next league without trouble, THEN it promotes you. If you clearly don't belong in a league it will move you. Otherwise, if you're going 50/50, you're exactly where you need to be. Being in the top of a league is SUPPOSED to match you with the lower portion of the next league. In the end, it's putting you where you end up winning 50% of your matches.

I understand this but I am winning half of the games vs the top 10 gold players..all other silvers and low lvl golds i dnt seem to have a problem with. My last 3 matches were 3 gold, out of which 2 where ranked 8 and 6 and. What i mean is if im silver i should be playing mainly silver opponents right? I might play 1 our of every 5, rest are gold and not bottom half, it just seems too random!

i was like 5-0, then lost and got promoted.
