It's not a troll, it's 100% true, I just checked my www.battle.net account and it seems that I can download the client. Although it says estimated time is 2 hours.
Do you seriously think respected members and staff member of other sites would work at the same time and suddenly think about trolling the community like this?

Its real guys. I am downloading it now. I have a blizzcon key and I did not get an email yet though. So probably the first waves of invites are available to download but none of the emails have gone out.
Meaning when the emails go out the blizzcon keys will probably go out too and then you will just have to register the key to the bnet account.

He's legit.
I'll believe it then! Although all bnet posts relating to it keep getting deleted. Refreshing my e-mail constantly as we speak. I hope to see some streams tonight!
As an SCL staff member I will confirm that I am currently downloading the client myself. I have provided screens to other staff. I have not received a beta email yet however.

PS - I'm not a big poster, and I'm not a troller. I don't have time for that. I've just been hitting F5 along with everyone else. I logged into my battle.net account - and the first item there is Manage SC2 beta

No e-mail notification for me but the site says I have a license so I'm downloading. And I found out that I'm not going to have to have surgery for my minor tonsillitis so today is a double amazing, prepare for videoz
I should mention that I have recieved NO e-mail from Blizzard about the beta, I only checked my bnet account and saw that it was available for download. CHECK YOUR BNET ACCOUNTS PEOPLE.

Just hoping to get it tomorrow - EPIC TIMING FUCK YEA!
EVERYONE. Stop checking your e-mails! I'm downloading the beta client right now and haven't gotten an e-mail, I checked my bnet account and saw it was available for download. Check THERE first. I got a key from BlizzCon 08.

You got it from opt-in, not the key(or blizzcon 08 card) itself
yeah nobody was sent emails, plus the two are unrelated. the only reason why people are able to download are from opt-ins, theyre directly tied to battle.net account
maybe it's good thing that i haven't gotten in yet because i still have to finish this math homework in front of me and then study for a physics midterm

For the millionth time, email and current account are NOT tied together.
So right now people who are receiving theirs got them from the opt-in!

Has someone who are able to download it got their link after the first person got theirs. I mean, was it blank at first, and then visible? If so, then they might add the people successively, so that everyone is not downloading at the same time or something
im confused, if u can download the client off the site, u have been chosen by the gods? I only have opt in, have not received a key, but am now like 20% downloaded.
Question for those that were in WotLK beta: those that stupidly used their blizzcon keys on it, how long after opt-in began did you get your email with a key?

I'm confused as if i go to download any other blizz game i need a CD key but the beta does not require a CD key, wouldn't that mean anyone can just dl sc2 beta and jump in or will they be using out battle.net account as log in info and that's their filter.
We don’t have an exact start date to share at this time, but note that when it does begin, we will be adding additional regions to the beta test in phases. North America, Australia, and New Zealand will be the first regions to begin beta testing, and other regions will follow afterward in phases. We will have more information to share about all of these phases in the future.
The reason for setting up the beta in regional phases is that it takes time to set up and configure our testing infrastructure in each area. Bringing up one region at a time makes the overall testing process for StarCraft II and Battle.net more efficient from a development perspective, making the test more effective, and allowing us to complete the game more quickly than if we attempted to start the beta test in all regions at the same time. We will share more information about the start dates for the beta in different regions at a later date.
So i guess people outside North America, Australia, and New Zealand will have to wait... damn!!

Old and outdated news. They have since said it will start globally.
so are the sc2 servers or whatever actually up? after the download is finished can you guys actually start playing or does beta have to officially "start" first?
you probably need to increase your resolution from your computer.. i think this is why its lagging and flashing in the stream. Also i just want to point out that you might not wanna put your email in the live stream with sooo many /b/tards in here.... just a thought
ok i swear to fucking god if my key doesnt work..... for some reason on my battle.net account it doesnt show the beta and when i click add game and my beta code it says invalid

The Koprulu sector rings once more with the sounds of battle, for the public beta test of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has officially begun! Invitations to participate in the beta test are now being delivered. As with previous Blizzard Entertainment titles, the beta-test process for StarCraft II will occur in phases. In each phase, we will be selecting players who meet specific criteria and who have opted in via their Battle.net accounts.
Players who have been invited to participate in the beta test will need to have a Battle.net account. For more information on the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta test, please read the FAQ http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=23094049320&sid=5000 and our recent media alert.
If you didn't receive a beta test invite, don't worry -- it's possible that you'll be added in a later phase. Keep an eye on the email address associated with your Battle.net account, and stay tuned to www.StarCraft2.com for further updates.
Additionally, please keep discussion regarding the StarCraft II Beta consolidated to this thread. Thanks!
I've gotten nothing, and I have a beta key from Blizzcon as well as the Twitter contest.
Edit: I should have been more clear. I don't have a beta key to give/sell, one is for a friend. It's just that I have access to the email accounts so I can check both.
I didn't get an email but my account is active... if you're supposed to be in beta I hope you'd at least log in to your battle.net account and check :D

Update: I have official confirmation from Blizzard. The installer will appear in your account if you've been flagged for beta access. If you see the installer, you're in. Access is directly linked to your account, so you won't be getting an email with a key. Just download the installer, sign in with your Battle.net account, and you're good to go.
It sounds like people are still being added to the system in this first wave, so give it a day or two -- you may get access later today or tomorrow. If you don't get in this wave, more testers will be added in later, so you still have a chance down the line to participate.

This is confusing, let me clarify.
this ONLY applies to those who would get in through OPT-IN, obviously everyone who registered their blizzcon key did not tie it to battle.net accounts
For those asking about the BlizzCon attendees with beta codes. I just wanted to confirm that a large number of the BlizzCon attendees were invited into the first wave today and should be receiving their emails once they are all processed. We will be sending out more invites as the beta process continues.
God dammit my friend got in, I'm so fucking jealous. Also, I just realized my system specs are way outta date, and I just updated it, hopefully this doesn't move me to the bottom of a list

Oh, thanks, didn't see that one. That's pretty awful if only some of the people with a blizzcon key gets in the first wave. I'll certainly rage pretty hard if I'm not getting in since that's what they said :p
How does it know what your battlenet account is? I presume that's an email from a blizzcon 08 key right? Didn't you only put in your e-mail in the registration wow-site thingy?
lol I was like "Ok I really gotta start learning now, just gotta check if beta has begun once more before I start" and now this...My examn is fucked T_T
Ok, you guys need to be careful with assumptions. It says a large number of *attendees*, not keyholders. Not all attendees signed up. You guys may be right, but the wording is shaky.
I'm staying away from all things Sc2 until I get home and (hopefully) get my key from Twitter and get to experience it for myself. It's tempting to not watch Nony play though

I wouldn't try to log in with your account until you get the permission to download the beta from Blizzard. But yeah, you can save some time downloading the client now.
I'd hope that anyone posting that they got in would tell us some more details. For example, did you log in and have nothing and then log in and it was there? Did you get an email? Did Tasteless spray you with his magical StarCraft Saliva and suddenly it was just there, Icon on the desktop and all?

ok cool, as long as we play at different times then awesome. I didnt get a blizzcon key, i opted in on my bnet account settings and when i checked i had a download link. 1 hour left before it is done!
I think they chose the opt-in'ers based on their computer specifications, so if u made a bunch fo accounts with the same computer then it does no good lol.

There's no reason for that to piss you off; they've sent out as many beta keys as they want to have people playing the beta. If there are WoW players with keys that arent going to play the beta, Blizzard will see that there are too few people logging in, and invite more.

You should get it through Blizzard. If your account wasn't activated yet then it wasn't activated. I'm also waiting for an e-mail from Blizzard with my info

Source?
Seriously, source? I can't go on every day until the game comes out without knowing I'll have a slight chance to get the beta before.
It's a wave, they did this when WoW exp's came out. So I'm sure they're doing it for SCII. It's basically to test their servers and see how well they handle people logging in/off.
I called Blizz tech support earlier today and they said the beta isn't "officially" released yet, and could offer no explanation as to why some people had access when most of the people who have keys do not. Very lameness. I am disappoint.

At this point, I would much have preferred it if only the beta key participants had gotten in this first wave, even though I don't have one. At least that way, I wouldn't be f5ing all over the place. -_-
what really ticks me off is how most WoW players (which btw are 95% of the +20,000 Blizzcon attendees) wont even play SC2 beta. they'll either not even try it or hardly touch it, so goddamn upsetting :[

Has anyone had any issues with their comps when trying to play? My game just crashed when it was loading, and whenever I have SC2 loaded it sends my comp into overdrive-mode and (im assuming) the fan is moving at like x10 speed. Is there any way to stop this? It's quite annoying.

Congratulations, this is your invitation to the beta test for Blizzard Entertainment’s StarCraft® II: Wings of Liberty™! You are receiving this email because you attended a special Blizzard Entertainment event, participated in a related contest or promotion, or have otherwise been selected to join the beta-testing process. This email contains your beta key along with instructions on how to get started.
As a beta test participant, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the multiplayer gameplay of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and explore the social-networking, matchmaking, and other new features of Blizzard Entertainment’s revamped Battle.net® online-gaming service. Throughout the StarCraft II beta test, you’ll be able to take part in cooperative and competitive battles as the terrans, protoss, and zerg -- and at the same time, you’ll be helping test the stability of the Battle.net service and fine-tune the game balance prior to launch. The developers look forward to hearing your feedback and seeing you on Battle.net!
Getting Started:
In order to participate in the beta test, you must have an active Battle.net account. If you don’t have a Battle.net account, visit www.battle.net to create one. Note that you are required to accept the Battle.net Terms of Use before you can create a Battle.net account and install the StarCraft II beta client.
Below is a beta key that will allow you to upgrade your Battle.net account to participate in the StarCraft II beta test.
XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXXX-XXXX
PLEASE NOTE: Each beta key can be used only once, so please make sure you are upgrading the Battle.net account you wish to use to play the StarCraft II beta. Once claimed, your beta key cannot be transferred to another Battle.net account.
1. Apply Your Beta Key - Log in to your Battle.net account. Under "Manage My Games," click "Add or Upgrade a Game." Enter the above beta key in the "Enter Game Key" field and select "Add Game."
2. Get the Installer - In your list of games, click the “Manage Game” button under the StarCraft II beta image to download the installer.
does anyone know if you have to enter in a cdkey when trying to install the client, or does it work like wow where you only need to enter in your key when adding the game to your battle.net account?

You install it without doing anything other than accepting their terms. You have to sign in to an authorized battle.net account before you can play though.
Has anyone who got in via opt-in gotten an e-mail yet? All I've heard is people checking their battle.net account. If no, won't that mean a lot of people haven't noticed they got in yet? When will they get the e-mail?
I've just gotten my Blizzcon beta key pr. e-mail minutes ago in Denmark (6am here) so i can confirm they're still sending Blizzcon invites out for first wave.
I can also confirm that you need to enter a serial in bnet for Blizzconners in order to be able to download the beta installer (so if you're a blizzcon atendee refreshing the bnet login screen wont do the job alone unless u also got opt-ed in by chance.
Don't know about opt-in but it seems invites by opt-in for the first wave has ended.
I've been reading teamliquid for a long time but didnt register until now. If someone dont believe the above mentioned, fine, i can live with that. I need to sleep while SC2 downloads, i cant be bothered with posting evidence.

Trying to get in through that way, I applied around 12 AM PST and still havn't received any info yet.

So select the English client at the download page and redownload.
There is no such option for me. In my case, my game is in Traditional Chinese version and I'll have to play in it lol. I'm gonna try downloading the game in english since its up in torrent and see if it works.

I finally got in a little before midnight with my blizzcon key e-mail. Our keys from pax still haven't arrived for my friends, anyone else with a pax key get it yet? I'm apparently in david kim's ladder group, he's 48-2 >_<.

theyre testing how the game runs on different qualities of computers, so pick teh computer you would rather play starcraft 2 on.
Darkn3ss, even as a person who has yet to play the beta I can answer some of those by just having read the forums, the ARE giving updates all the fucking time.
No invitations are being sent right now, no one has reported of getting any in the last hours so we can all assume they stopped.
Not even Blizzard knows when second wave is according to some blue posts, no info.
B.net 2.0 has around 5-6k players total at a time playing average from what I've gathered if we combine all the realms. This obviously is not very accurate..

Ah, thanks! I was kinda hoping blizz gives an update and then someone like you points me in the right direction! ^^
NOW FUCK!!! I want my beta =(

This is just LOL! I'm sorry, but I don't think anyone will be willing to share their account! (Besides I think the rules forbid it anyway)
Sorry, dude!!!
Someone coulda stole psyonic_reaver's account tho. He like gave out his email and password over the stream last night oO. With a client downloaded from piratebay and the info he leaked - free beta!
But I wouldn't do that if I were you. Though it might hurt to wait sooo long, getting caught breaking the rules might hurt even more! ^^
Well, a ton of opt in people probably haven't realized they got it yet. One of my friends who only plays WoW got one and didn't realize it till like 20 minutes ago.
I'd bet there are quite a few unused keys sitting out there.
Hopefully the 2nd wave will start sometime this weekend.

This makes me really really MAD. UBER MAD. Random dudes who is not even interested are sitting one a treasure for some people unaware.
I wanted to provide an update for players that attended BlizzCon and redeemed their codes, but have yet to receive a beta key invite email. The first wave of invites have already been sent out and a majority of the invites were sent out to BlizzCon attendees. Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of BlizzCon attendees, we could not get everyone in with the first wave. Rest assured that if you did not get into the first wave, you will be included in a future wave, possibly within the next two weeks.
The timing of the next wave will be dependent upon the amount of players that are playing and the load capacity of the servers. Thank you for your understanding and patience through this process.
Thank god they finally posted some info. Two weeks isn't really that bad of a wait. I'm sure there will be numerous bug fixes, server adjustments, and balance fixes in the next couple weeks anyways so we'll get to play an even better beta =D
