In Halowars RTS for 360 there is a minimap as usual but the great thing is it shows a highlighted circle on the minimap where ever your currently looking at, which your allies can see. This becomes very handy in 2v2 or 3v3 when you see units going to your opponents base instead of wondering if he has seen it or not you can instantly glance at mini map to see if hes actually looking where he needs to be.
I dont see any reason why a simple thing like this should not be included into sc2
See where your teammates are looking at
If you look at the image above, you’ll see a blue circle on the minimap. That circle shows where on the map you’re currently looking at. This circle moves as you move your camera around the map. In team games, everyone one of your teammates has a circle on your minimap in their color to show you where THEY are looking on the map. This is kinda useful as it shows you their thought process as well as what they are focusing on right now.
p.s of course you would have an option to turn it off on the side of mini map if in some situations it was getting cluttered possibly late game
Poll: Do you want to see this implemented into SC2 (Vote): HELL YES (Vote): HELL NO

Yeah... until the players start randomly clicking around in the minimap to annoy everyone. Or when pro gamers play multiplayer and start switching back and forth in a frenzy only to block the entire minimap.
Other than that it's a neat idea. Should be optional though.

Observer problem isn't really a problem as the player can just unally the obs and the player will no longer be able to see the observers circle. For progamers how is that really a problem lol yes the circle will go alot faster so.... if it really was a problem you could easily make it an option to turn it off on the side of mini map. I know alot of players would welcome this.

yea this is great. I hate it when i ping the shit out of the mini map and u still get that ally thats like "yo im macroing, ur ping i barely noticed."
Edit: Then ur 40 supply army goes to shit...../endrant of pubby b.net team games. Edit2: And yea it needs to be a option.

There's two similar reasons why I would want this off by default.
1. The rate at which players move around the map in SC and even War3 would make the minimap look cluttered.
2. Unless it's really discrete, you undergo the chance of missing an enemy blip by having too much going on on the minimap.
However, I could see it being pretty useful in replays when you can selectively analyse each part of the game.

I got a feeling players will be bouncing around the map way too fast for this to be useful

This is a great idea. An option to turn this on should definitely be included. Also maybe an option to chose which ally's circle you can see.

I just did a few random fpvod searches on youtube and skipped thru them. If you watch teh minimap for the whole game instead of the main screen you can actually tell quite a bit by the position of his screen. It is not flicking too much to make sense at all. I watched NaDa vs NCYellOw (FPVOD) and Savior vs Pusan to get a Turtling Terran and a Zerg with stuff going on over a few corners of the map. Those are just the first few games i saw in the list.
I voted no, but just wanted to say that I don't think it would not be understandable in game. I just don't want stuff on my minimap that I don't need.

Add a third option to the vote: HELL YES IF ITS OPTIONAL

I like it but dont forget SC people are extremely afraid of change. SC2 won't be exactly like SC so many people won't like it.

Maybe some fade-in/fade-out mechanism so it won't jump around the minimap and draw to much attention, if ally changes view quickly. So if ally is quickly changing between 2 locations, circle (rectangle, etc...) should be half bright on both locations... But, HELL YES, it is good idea to have some indication where your ally's attention is...

Oh sorry that we care about our favorite game so much that we don't want the sequal of it to suck monkey balls, jesus, its not like we're against every single way of changing the game if it doesn't hurt the competitive aspects of it.

if it was optional, then it sounds like an awesome idea
|
This could only be good for helping much worse allies or helping bad players in general. Why do I need to check the minimap to check what my partner is looking at? This does not seem useful in a fast paced game like starcraft.
If you see a drop coming you can still scream "drop", "d" or ping the minimap, which is independent from seeing where your ally's cursors is.
|
Useful in an FFA for detecting when your "ally" is pondering a zealot drop on your main. Honestly I think it is a good idea, as long as some attention is applied to the implementation. If you find it distracting, disable it.
|
I think this would be a really good idea to at least try, would be interesting to see if it was helpful or a distraction. Of course optional is best.
Remember that with automine and mbs we'll be spending a lot less time looking back in our base so there might not be as much crazy screen changing.
|
People voting no, would this be fine if it was an option off be default, or if it was only allowed by observers or in replays?
I think this would be a great addition to watching games, being able to tell where both player's screens are, so you don't have to guess if the player missed seeing that shuttle or not.

How would changing your position on the map be annoying? It'd be far less annoying than people spamming pings in SC or War3 and also a lot more inconvenient for the person who's trying to annoy the other people.
