I honestly think Tuchel should get time to cook until Euros. Semifinal should again be in the cards and depending on luck and draw even a final.
|
I also hope that the English FA won't fire him! England has a really strong group of players - it would be a shame if they suddenly start winning something. So Tuchel for life!

Tuchel's squad selection is still confusing for sure. No Maguire for that calm leadership in the backline if you're set to park the bus, no control by not bringing on Mainoo or calling up Wharton. Too many useless attackers (why the fuck is Toney in this team), not calling up Trent or Hall to unlock low blocks or give the team some more creativity and options off the bench.
The players were definitely scared, but when they go in for the water break, Tuchel as the manager either needs to make changes, or give some confidence to the players. He did neither, subbed off Gordon for defense, and the game transpired as it did. The English are far too much in their heads at this point, they always retreat after taking the lead, very Arsenal-esque but Arsenal finally got over the line after City/Pool weren't strong this season. But in a World Cup, you cannot rely on your main rivals to have shitty years to win, there will always be a team that peaking at the right time that will win the tournament. This small club mentality isn't how you win in these knockout formats. Perhaps England just need to wait for this generation to retire so the new generation is fresh with a clean slate to get rid of this negative attitude when taking leads.

to be fair, with a cb combination of guehi, stones and burns, youd be pretty heavily favoured to clear all the crosses that come into the box. messis 2nd assist was literally inch perfect. messi has shown for 20 years now that you cant coach against him. the shape of your team is irrelevant, because hed find a way like he always does. the only real way to stop him is to reduce argentina's time on the ball, which england were clearly incapable of doing after their goal.
england were mentally and physically drained and so tuchel reacted with the less risk, high probability play of packing the box with big defenders. englands 1st goal was a lapse in concentration and maybe a lack of legs. 10 men parking the bus but no one out to press fernandes quick enough to block the shot isnt tuchels fault. and messis inch perfect cross that goes perfectly above stones' head to martinez whos 15cm shorter isnt tuchels fault.
on another day with the same subs and same game plan england still win because 1 player is 1 second quicker to close fernandes and messi's cross is 10 cm off its trajectory. england came pretty close lol
anyways im only defending tuchel against criticisms that arent mainoo related. i legitimately think the only correct answer was bringing mainoo on for rice/bellingham/rogers, or even kane. you could also criticise tuchel for his overall squad selection if you wanted to go further back, because not having anyone to bring on in midfield besides mainoo, who youre not even gonna pick anyway, is pretty disgraceful. So basically he made mistakes all the way back to selecting the squad and kept making mistakes until we got knocked out. Fabulous. That isn't what I was saying though, is it? I said we had Messi sorted. He was still dangerous because he's Messi, but we limited his influence, until exactly the moment Tuchel decided to abandon the space that Messi operates in. It was a series of bad choices on Tuchel's part that led to Messi being able to do his thing. well yeah i said earlier on in the tournament that anderson/rice would get england rolled against better teams didnt i? its why i laughed at andersons price tag. hes a solid dm, but hes no world beater or someone who can carry a midfield, let alone a whole team, yet he got sold for prime pogba prices. What because if you play him in the correct way he can stop Messi, but if you withdraw him to the penalty area he can't?
Forest laughing all the way to the bank because Anderson doesn't have magic powers ffs.

and tuchel is an idiot for relying on anderson/rice to control midfield the whole tournament. the combination of them 2 simply cant keep the ball. last time you made it sound like england dont play to control the midfield as if it were their choice, but the reality is no football team ever in the history of football concedes control in midfield because they want to. england play to the wings because they have to; because they cant play through the middle. if anderson was genuinely worth 116m then i would expect him to be able to dictate a midfield on his own, but he cant

Its not about the money. I'm proud that Forest have developed a world class midfielder from the young, nervous winger that turned up at our 2 years ago.

I couldn't disagree more. Its perfectly valid tactically to draw the opponent forward through the middle before countering on the wings. Watch England's goal back. It shows you. If we were trying to wrest control of the game in the midfield, we wouldn't have Bellingham spending most of his time drifting wide to link up with the wingers, abandoning the centre in the process.

but this is the fkin world cup. no team has ever won the world cup by playing counter attacking football the whole tournament. the very nature of that game plan is to invite pressure because you allow the opponent to sustain attacks and keep the ball. its so risky to play that way that its actually stupid, because the chances of you coming out unscathed for 4 knockout matches at minimum against the absolute best in the world is miniscule.
maybe tuchel did want to play that way, in which case hes still an idiot. but im more inclined to think that he was forced to play that way because england straight up dont have the personnel (especially without mainoo) and, historically, dont play a controlling style. england is too used to playing direct, transition football so much that you dont know how to play a possession game.
the fact that you think the "lets not fight to control midfield and just hit them with counters" tactic was legit is probably the exact same reason why england lost to argentina. the whole country is scared to play football against the best. i think the england players never actually believed they would win. so when gordon scored they counted their lucky stars at such a miracle and decided they wanted to hold on for dear life. thats the only way to explain why literally from the next kick off the entire 11 decides to drop deep and park the bus

anyways im only defending tuchel against criticisms that arent mainoo related. i legitimately think the only correct answer was bringing mainoo on for rice/bellingham/rogers, or even kane. you could also criticise tuchel for his overall squad selection if you wanted to go further back, because not having anyone to bring on in midfield besides mainoo, who youre not even gonna pick anyway, is pretty disgraceful. So basically he made mistakes all the way back to selecting the squad and kept making mistakes until we got knocked out. Fabulous. On July 16 2026 19:27 evilfatsh1t wrote: if youre saying messi was the sole reason you lost, well can you really blame tuchel? its not the first time a team has lost because of messi's godlike brilliance.
Forest laughing all the way to the bank because Anderson doesn't have magic powers ffs. what? my point about anderson has nothing to do with messi. anderson is a good dm. thats it. he aint no bellingham and hes definitely no pogba, yet thats the price he went for. so yeah forest is laughing all the way to the bank. you should be happy about the extra change you got. dont know why youre so offended about the idea that you got more than what anderson was worth. Its not about the money. I'm proud that Forest have developed a world class midfielder from the young, nervous winger that turned up at our 2 years ago. On July 17 2026 04:47 evilfatsh1t wrote: and tuchel is an idiot for relying on anderson/rice to control midfield the whole tournament. the combination of them 2 simply cant keep the ball. last time you made it sound like england dont play to control the midfield as if it were their choice, but the reality is no football team ever in the history of football concedes control in midfield because they want to. england play to the wings because they have to; because they cant play through the middle. I couldn't disagree more. Its perfectly valid tactically to draw the opponent forward through the middle before countering on the wings. Watch England's goal back. It shows you. If we were trying to wrest control of the game in the midfield, we wouldn't have Bellingham spending most of his time drifting wide to link up with the wingers, abandoning the centre in the process. yeah.... if youre the underdog playing a 1 off game against a big team hoping to nick a win or a draw then you can play counter attacking football and see results. but this is the fkin world cup. no team has ever won the world cup by playing counter attacking football the whole tournament. the very nature of that game plan is to invite pressure because you allow the opponent to sustain attacks and keep the ball. its so risky to play that way that its actually stupid, because the chances of you coming out unscathed for 4 knockout matches at minimum against the absolute best in the world is miniscule. maybe tuchel did want to play that way, in which case hes still an idiot. but im more inclined to think that he was forced to play that way because england straight up dont have the personnel (especially without mainoo) and, historically, dont play a controlling style. england is too used to playing direct, transition football so much that you dont know how to play a possession game Well all I can say is Anderson won't be playing any matches for Man City if he can't control possession in midfield. Perhaps they should have bought Mainoo instead. why are you so salty? lol as if any player going to city automatically means they can control midfield on their own. anderson will have teammates to help him, like the ballon dor winning dm that comes from the most possession heavy national team, amongst other players I'm salty because England went out of the World Cup. Sorry if you're getting the arse end of that.

TBH I think there must have been a giant miscommunication then, either that or Tuchel is deliberately talking some bollocks here (which I doubt).
The players are all complaining that his changes forced them backwards and that they didn't have license to press in midfield after they scored, which exacerbated things.
I suppose the other option is Tuchel was 'trying' to help but did so in a very counter productive way.
I agree though, Argentina were the better side. I don't think they have much better players though.

DNA, lol? We did the exact thing England did in our game vs. Morocco, lost control of the midfield and could not stop all the balls going into the box.
But we had Frenkie and Gravenberch in the 6 position in up to minute 85, which should be the most press-resistant duo ever. They could not hold the ball in the team either ( and they're not great at pure defending, but that's beside the point). Their DNA is about the opposite of the england jobbers at 6, but you still can't expect 2 guys in MF to hold the ball between them when the rest are around your own box. So I say it's not DNA, it's how the team was instructed to hold formation. Too little movement and too few bodies, especially when you compare that to Spain, who were creating triangles on the midfield all day.

His explanation is a joke. It has nothing to do with DNA. That's a very poor excuse to avoid responsibility for the loss. A possession game is what every kid in NL learns to play. Yet we had the same problem against Morocco, Japan after the defensive sub, and everyone in NL will remember that game against Czech when Robben was subbed for Bosvelt in 2004. England certainly did not hit their ceiling. There's more quality in their squad than Argentina. Tuchel just blundered it away.

Well England took Kane and JB out, so that is a very big rotation quality wise there.

There's a special pleasure in watching everyone glaze France and then watching them lose. But it's a dangerous pleasure to have because when they win it feels worse ^^'
