The way it was celebrated with his teammates was not pretty either. "Yeah mate, you played for the penalty, and got it for us".
He also had to after cancelling Norway's goal after the Haaland shove.
The ref was not the best, but not the worst either. Both the shove and the Nyland rebound could have been avoided. It is a game of very slim margins at this point!
Ya, he wasn't selfish, but indecisive and got a bad touch, then the window to make the pass was gone because stones did a great job blocking. Then the problem was actually that he kept looking for the pass after the initial mistake, because at that point trying to finish himself would've been much better.

Yeah it looked to me like his problem was actually trying to find an angle to pass when it wasn't on, so he wasn't fully committed to taking his man on and shooting.

Giving a second yellow for that is rather dubious though.

6 goals als a midfielder is insane. Especially since Kane is supposed to be the primary goal scorer of the team. More impressive than Messi/Mbappe even in my opinion.
If you dive this obviously when you are on a yellow you deserve the result. Did you see it? It is not one of those situations where some people call it a dive and some say it might be a foul. There can be absolutely no debate in this case.
Very unfortunate for Switzerland, I would have loved to see them advance. But that is entirely on Embolo.

Especially given he’s seemingly everywhere in some games, he’s been bursting around, breaking lines and dribbling and making assists and also made some potentially game-saving blocks too, plus obviously the clutch goals
The lad is absurd, he’s basically the complete midfielder and he’s only 23, which is bonkers.
Steven Gerrard was obviously pretty much top tier at everything, not as good as Bellingham at dribbling in tight spaces. Paul Pogba’s career hasn’t gone as he’d have liked, at his best he could do everything pretty well
Aside from those guys I can’t really think of many midfielders who can basically do everything very well and who could do a job as a 6, 8, 10 or a false nine or second striker

Yes, I've seen it. Football is full of dives many of them as blatant as this. A miniscule portion of which gets a card. There has to be some consistency and this is not it. If they want to start giving cards for diving then announce it like with the hand in front of your mouth.

Not sure I agree. I don't think there's been as blatant a dive as this in this world cup. There's been plenty of light contact and then plunging to the floor as if they were mauled by a machete, but Embolo was already flopping when Paredes was still more than 50 cm away from him.
The problem with the ruling is not the yellow card for the schwalbe, which is 100% justified, imho. The problem is the "mistaken identity" ruling. That's supposed to be for things like the referee sees someone get elbowed down in a corner, and cards the wrong player. The VAR then corrects the referee to card the player whose elbow it was. It's not supposed to be for different fouls. The VAR might only have intended it to result in the yellow card being rescinded because Paredes did nothing wrong. But then the ref saw the schwalbe and decided to card that instead? I don't know. Clearly the "what should be the results of a VAR call here" need hammering out, but Embolo cannot possibly complain that he got carded for that flop: a ref who had actually seen it better would've carded him on the spot rather than getting bamboozled by the dive.
