So far, as expected before the tournament, looks the biggest contender. There were around 10 players selected to be superstars at this tournament, and they will be hyped at the expenses of everyone else. Norway=Haaland England=Kane Portugal=Ronaldo Argentina=Messi Brazil=Vini jr. France=Mbappé Spain=Yamal It does not matter if others are delivering the best football. Patrick Berg handed Haalan's last goal on a plate, and was clearly the man of the match, but Haaland will still steal the spotlight. It is how the sport works. The good thing is some players might thrive wit attention, letting the rest of the team to focus on their jobs.

He had a bad first half vs Senegal (olise and dembele were also poor), after that he has been great. I disagree with that analysis but i have a known bias against mbappe (or at least i rate him much much lower than a lot of other people) and like i said this is just the second France game i get to watch the full 90 mins so my view might be skewed. Luckily neither of them is doing anything relevant so far today.

Thankfully we won but these south american teams just can’t play football, just play dirty. Unlucky for Paraguay they don’t get a star like Messi so you can’t win the whole thing playing like that This game made me so angry even though we won Game vs Morroco will be tough, there are a lot of morrocan / French in France so there will be a lot of tension, and it’s the strongest team from Africa

I’m all for being a bit more lax and letting the game flow but that was ridiculous

The penalty was clear, the tackler was nowhere near the ball, and Mbappé had a chance of getting it if he had not been clipped down. I hope that ref is done.

Either give players a right to appeal, or don’t.

I honestly understand it very well. The results of the play was much worse than the intent. There is a reason why the ref only blew a free kick before he saw the brutal injury in slow motion. It is a VAR issue through and through.

Like I said, if there was an appeal mechanism, that would be fine. I felt it was an unjust red card personally. But there isn’t. I follow about 9 football podcasts, possibly more actually and all were saying it was shit for Balogun, and there should be an appeals process for certain red cards. Instead FIFA have just arbitrarily unbanned him, is he the only player this World Cup with a harsh red card? I said it when Ronaldo got completely arbitrarily unbanned for the start of this tournament. The governing body can’t just dick around with the rules, it’s ridiculous. People seem to be more energised by perceived conspiracies for whatever reason when there’s 100% proven instances of FIFA favouring certain players and nations Look you get suspended, that sucks. But those are the rules and FIFA are pissing over them. Roy Keane and Pavel Nedved dragged their respective sides to CL finals in 99 and 2003 respectively and had to miss the finals through suspension. UEFA didn’t make some arbitrary ruling so they could. As I’ve said, if there was an appeal mechanism in place, that’s fine by me.
