its not the same as messi being forced to leave when he nor the club want it. i wonder if he moves to psg on a 2 yr contract whether barca will just buy him back next year once the finances are better. tbh i could see that happening quite easily

Well no they haven’t been run by crooks, there’s just been a lot of pressure over in China for Chinese companies to not blow money on football, especially foreign vanity projects like running an Inter. The Chinese league has had teams dissolve and has been noticeably less ambitious in signings in recent years too. Meanwhile in England we’ve got the gulf state team potentially splurging another hundred million+ in this window and the pet project of an absolutely not crooked oligarch as the reigning European champions. Isn’t modern football lovely?

Best player I’ve seen anyway, by quite a distance. Apparently it’s his fault that the club was so badly run that a 50% reduction in salary isn’t nearly enough to make the club’s books balanced. He should play for free apparently! Most of which stems from knee-jerk reactions and a lack of reading on what the situation actually is. To be fair I haven’t actually seen many Barca fans being quite that entitled, so that’s something I guess.

Not really, they splashed cash when there was a green light to do so, now there isn’t, and with the impact of Covid on club finances the books have to be balanced. C’est la vie. Only real difference is Chelsea’s benefactor who isn’t at all crooked stuck around, frankly despite being an Inter fan I agree with Xi’s directive, don’t see much PR benefit for the Chinese for throwing money away at European football teams. While I felt the proposed solution was wholly wrong, some of the rationales behind a European Super League being necessary weren’t. Barca are in financial meltdown, Real are tightening their belts, Serie A isn’t competitive at the CL level any more. Teams can either risk financial ruin by trying to compete with EPL/gulf money and the inflation it’s causing, or not be competitive. It’s a worrying development for European football on the whole. @Firebolt yeah. That’s my understanding anyway, unless Messi actually had a negative salary and paid Barcelona it wouldn’t be sufficient to bring them under the La Liga cap.

of course it would be up to psg and barcas finances also but if it could be done i think it definitely should be done. and i mentioned this earlier but i dont know how some players like griezmann (didnt see some of the others) that didnt agree to cuts have the audacity to sit at the press conference when messi is crying live on air. they are complicit in barca bleeding money. you cant say they arent because they do not deserve the amounts they are being paid; if they truly deserved it then other clubs would match it.

Ok if we follow that train of thought. Then a club should at all times match the pay other clubs are willing to pay a player. Because they are worth that amount. Also its the crazy La Liga salary cap that is the problem. If you need to reduce your wages by 50% because that your earnings dip because of Pandemic. Its just plain craziness and not a responsible way to run a business . https://www.chaseyoursport.com/Football/La-Liga-Salary-Cap-rule-explained/2867

Iric they can invest 25% of transfer fees etc. even if they're above the cap so they can sign him if he plays for free. Barca just expected to be able to offload more players than they could so they couldn't sign him.

The only things that stand out is that he absolutely avoids blaming anyone (which is probably sensible), and that he mentioned about 3-4 times that he never lied about anything...as if that was ever implied?
