As much as I feel sorry for Vdb, he's proven to be terrible as a 6 so far. Ole should not play him expecting to get much help defensively (except for pressing high). He's never been given a real chance. They should've let him go in the summer instead of keeping him and not giving him any minutes. What a waste. i disagree that he hasnt been given chances. he has started enough cup games for him to show something, especially against lesser opposition. he hasnt shown that he can play a defensive role in midfield, which is why he will never supplant mcfred and he will never play 10 in utds team with fernandes/pogba and even mata ahead of him. i think hes being kept however because pogbas contract situation is unclear, so if pogba leaves the the idea would be to let vdb play a no.8 and someone else plays no.6 (preferably someone better than mcfred).
No, even Lingard gets more minutes than VDB, how can anyone say VDB has been given enough chances.

Maybe VdB needs a proper run in the team to build his confidence and isn’t the kind of guy who can shine given the odd start every month or so or sub appearance.
Jesse Lingard, awful backpasses against YBB aside seems more the type of bloke who is unphased by periods out of action and can hit the ground running from cold.
I can understand why Ole wants to keep VdB around, if either Pogba or Fernandes get a long term injury. But if they don’t get injured it really sucks for the guy, and it seems cruel to keep him in that scenario, but you can’t know what will transpire.

Good lord, when Bayern Munchen really get going, they are on another level from every other team.
You'd think that away vs Leverkusen (second place in Bundesliga prior to round 8) would be one of the games they might slip up during a season. But instead they got a 5-0 lead after 37 minutes.

A couple of minutes playtime and some cup games isn't enough. Anyway I don't mind that too much. Bruno is a better player and it was pretty clear to an outsider that he'd have a very tough time getting into the first 11. Donny should've realised that and went to another club. But what bothers me is that they didn't let him go this summer. It's obvious Ole has no use for him (especially after the Ronaldo transfer). Just loan him to another club instead of promising him game time and then not giving any. He's of an age where he needs to play weekly. Keeping him for the bench just destroys his value and is bad for both the club and Donny.

Newcastle fan in stands has had a heart attack and regulion brought it to attention of ref who has halted the game. Now police man has told the ref to take the players off so they can get the person more treatment.

Yeah and VDB has a grand total of 5 minutes this season, what's your point?

Eric Dier might be the worst central defender in the prem. He's a liability

Yeah and VDB has a grand total of 5 minutes this season, what's your point? you made the point that lingard got more chances than vdb. i just proved you wrong. you can argue about minutes all you want, but 0 positive impact from 36 appearances to me seems like ole is completely justified in not using vdb in his only eligible position, being the holding midfield role
also even your point about vdb having 5 mins this season is straight up false. he has a cup start this season
|
I meant league minutes, also I'm pretty sure VDB wasn't brought in to play in the league cup. Appearances are one thing but minutes are another, how do you expect someone to have a positive impact if he gets subbed on in the 85th minute?
Anyway it's just bizarre management to me, Ole clearly doesn't have any plans to use him this season but doesn't want to sell him as well.

29 goals in 8 games is pretty ridiculous. The only hope for Dortmund and Leverkusen is that Munich have too many games and show up tired from time to time (like 2 weeks ago against Frankfurt)

Obviously it's still 'only' 3 matches, but I'm kind of curious if it keeps on happening any further. Some games they've recovered alright (Valencia), some others less so (Benfica).

I've never liked how Arsenal will get an early lead and then play super defensively. I wish that mindset would change
