Looking forward to more instant classic Germany games where players who sit on the bench in their clubs (if they even get to the bench) start for Germany because Löw's ego doesn't allow him to go back on dropping Boateng and Hummels. Shoutouts to Antonio Rüdiger and Nico Schulz in particular.

Well I agree about the sympathy but definitely not from the wc2018 in my case. It's just too many international friendly games and breaks are the reason for me. Just remove those games and don't refill them with "important" games (nations league).

The parts that annoy me are; Iceland going to Denmark to play even though they have an awful problem with a potentially mutated COVID strain involving minks, meaning that the UK government doesn't allow anyone in from Denmark, thus Iceland can't come and play their game in England, so we have to forfeit? Secondly, that same thing means any player from the UK going to play for Denmark right now cannot rejoin their club until a 2 week quarantine has taken place, so Leicester will be now without Kasper for 4 weeks (2 week international break plus 2 week quarantine). All for nations league games....

Regarding Nations League, I've been quite a big fan of it. Seeing Finland play actually meaningful and competitive internationals has been really cool. The normal euro and wc qualifier groups usually have one or two teams that are tiers above, and one team that is so much weaker than any of the others that those games lose meaning as well. In the worst case in a six team qualifier group six out of the ten games are significant mismatches one way or another. As much as I loved seeing the French stars in the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki some years back, it doesn't really mean that the football was meaningful when we can be happy when we only lost 2-0. Nations league at least in the C and B tiers has had none of these games that are essentially unwinnable or unlosable. Fixture congestion and corona concerns are a different issue, but I hope Nations League is here to stay.

On the other hand how much money can associations be making from these fixtures? Notably the friendlies. Really, why the fuck are they there in such a packed schedule already? Last international break brought rather a lot of Covid positives, methinks this one we shall see the same. Apart from anything else, it will stiffen the resolve of the clubs yet further in the club v country argument if they're losing players to Covid, which seems a borderline inevitability at this stage. Look there's no fans for the vast majority of these anyway. Just pick a singular city, set up a bubble for the international break and play them there, if you absolutely have to. There's absolutely nothing of the flavour of international football as it is, no home fans in raucous stadiums galvanising their team and intimidating the visitors, no colour of the committed travelling fans experiencing new European climes. Etc. May as well just play them at a neutral venue city and mitigate Covid risk considerably.

Their first match is at Hampden park in Euro 2021 against Czech Republic. The crazy thing is they are in the same group as England haha, going to be a bloodbath that one.

I just don't believe the original plan of having games all around continent with at least the teams travelling, if not even the whole circus including masses of media folks and fans is a sensible way. Now what the covid situation is at that point and how sensible UEFA is with regards to these things is very uncertain as of now, but I have serious doubts that the tournament would be played in the way it was supposed to happen. More likely in my head that they'll end up doing something like the Europa League and Champions League were, with a couple of stadiums in one country and more or less empty stands. Would love to be wrong about it tho.
