Well, for example that travelling doesn't affect the teams. IT does. That it was a fair penalty. It wasn't. English fans are not booing at anthems. They do(TBF not sure about today, missed them anthems).
And the irony is, that if it wasn';t of this obnoxious "coming home" and stupid stuff above(and some other shit) I would be hoping for England to win, because I really don't like Italy. But on this tournament I had to overcome my English fanboying and went for anyone else, especially after the penalty vs Denmark.

Just like in this case, people were saying how bad it is to sub in players to take the pens, expect that it isn't (or maybe it is, I actually don't have numbers) by referring to cases where it didn't work.

Then that player gets associated with the whole lost penalty shootout and match, and I would imagine the connection is much stronger than it is with the winning side and their penalties.
I feel like I could write a long moan about penalties, but they're still a reasonable way to end a game and it's late and most of the things have been already articulated by people smarter than me. So maybe another time.

If you're implying that the English fans were somehow deluded as to the quality of their team then that would seem a very foolish implication to make after watching them hold their own for 2 hours against the best team in Europe. I've read somewhere that the team which starts the shootout wins most of the time(like 70 %). Not sure if the math behind it is valid or not but the psychological effect may be stronger than it seems. Because penalty is considered as a sure goal so there's not much pressure for GK to catch it, but when you're losing 1:0 and you have to score...

You are right in that I remember Trezeguet missing his penalty in 2006 and how, shooting above the goal, while I don’t remember who and how others scored theirs and the others penalties missed, but that’s how it is.
As for is it useful to sub in for penalties, it’s probably up to the players and their « feelings » towards it.

They were bad against Scotland, they weren’t amazing against either the Czechs or Croatia but were better in both games.
At a World Cup your group is going to tend to be easier. It’s possible an England bombs out in group stages absolutely, it doesn’t strike me as particularly likely

To me it's mostly about the tactics. When they weren't defensive they played well, so maybe finding some other fool who would try to manage the team less defensively? Don't know who's brave enough to take it though, it's rather ungrateful job.

Not exactly a memorable final, Chiesa was the only spark. The early England goal was the perfect setup for Sterling to be a huge menace on the counter against an Italy that has to score and has two retirement age CBs but it just never happened.
