Not in the totality of the run, I think perception is a bit skewed because of the backs to the wall with a man down situation against Barca. Which Mourinho gave a breakdown of subsequently that was pretty interesting. That Inter was a really good, balanced side with a lot of quality across the pitch. Not unlike his first Chelsea side, good defensively but not dour and negative. Those were the days of peak Mourinho though, a rather different beast to today’s model. You don’t get players like Ozil and Sneijder playing their career-best football if you’re teams are overly negative. As for tonight, can’t get to watch for another 15 mins or so, sounds like Lyon are fashioning the kind of chances early they may really regret not taking, but a promising start.

And being clobbered around. If it was something else, I'd get him off before he starts being frustrated and does something stupid.

What is due to happen with Coutinho? He’s such a neat technician to watch, would be a shame if he ends up stuck in the James Rodríguez zone, hell they even share a loan spell at Bayern!

![]() Twice in a row now we’ve seen Bayern look vulnerable in the first 15-20 and having teams get behind them quite easily. For all Barca got stomped they did get through with alarming ease a couple of times. Granted Neymar is on a one man mission to mess up XG stats, but I’m not sure Bayern can afford another sloppy start. It’s weird because both games it’s not like Bayern changed things appreciably, they just tightened up (or loosened up in a mental sense) and it became less of an issue over the 90.

He is too expensive for Bayern to consider keeping him since he doesn't outperform other offensive options (that were drastically cheaper). Likewise I don't know that Barca want to keep him because he's expensive and they could use some money - though admittedly Coutinho was the best Barca player on Friday ![]() I think the best case for every party involved would be to get Coutinho to some EPL team.

Lyon's good against big teams, bad against the rest, basically. For Coutinho, back to Barça to warm the bench unless someone buys him but I don't see it.

Coutinho is better than most of Barca's midfield, if Koeman was smart he'd try to make him work as a winger in their starting eleven.

I have heard that Willy, that said it might speak for the strength in depth of Ligue Une being higher than us foreign plebs give credit. Also Memphis was a huge loss for them too I suppose. If I’m Coutinho I say fuck off. Not sure he has the luxury though. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player quite so adept at curling shots from cutting in from the left side, technically as Coutinho. A very specific thing but I really haven’t, and I’ve watched a lot of football. Got a few other tricks to his sleeve. He probably needs to suck it up and take a wage cut and become a big fish in a smaller pond, maybe he gets another big move to the big time in future, maybe he doesn’t. Do a Riquelme, not every great player can be a great player in a huge team, other factors come into play. Roberto fucking Baggio did some of his best work at Brescia after all. You probably wouldn’t even have to take a huge wage cut either depending where you go.

Coutinho is not a winger, they tried it for a season and he didn't perform. As long as Messi is there, he doesn't fit. He wants to have the ball and be some sort of playmaker. If he plays, he should be a midfielder à la Iniesta. Except he never tracks back and that's needed for a good Barça. So, he doesn't fit. Griezmann has the same issue as a winger. If Messi leaves, that's another debate. Griez + Coutinho behind a 9 could work. As for Ligue 1's level, no, it's not good. Lyon should be able to finish in the top 3 every year with their budget. They're just not very good at creating offense situations and against the defensive average team in France, they struggle. Against big teams they can sit back and counter, it's easier for them.

Coutinho actually had a lot of chances. He might not have been in the most functional team but he never looked like he tried hard. He took a lot of time off Dembele (when he wasn't injured) and Malcom who looked 10x better and actually fitting the system. He benefitted from his name and transfer cost, but never proved himself. There's a reason he's benched at Bayern too. I think he's an awesome player but he needs 2-3 guys around to work for him. This isn't what Barça (except for Messi) or Bayern do.
