Chelsea also dropped 23 points from winning 16/17 to getting 5th place 17/18. And Blackburn dropped 28 points from 94/95 to 95/96. (Lost Shearer.. ![]() However, with the exception of those three (four if we include this season), no other premier league season has featured the champion team of the previous season get more than 11 points fewer than they did the season before. So, going by history, it's overwhelmingly likely that Liverpool looks at a 90+ point season next season, too. Can understand why a Chelsea supporter has the impression that yo-yo performances are reasonably common, with their 87 - 50 - 93 - 70 streak some years ago, but almost all other champions fluctuate by fewer than 10 points per season. Of course, Liverpool's season has been absurdly magnificent, so replicating that is bound to be a bit harder than replicating your average 87 or whatever point league victory.

City will spend, regardless of champs league or not and will get players in that you wouldn't have thought would come, because at the end of the day money talks...Liverpool will struggle to finance this market they have said this already, Klopp himself. Chelsea and Yanited throwing a lot of money at the window as well. I am not saying Liverpool will go back to what they were struggling for 4th, but they will find it very hard to back what they did this year up. They did exactly what City did last year, which was score late late goals and importantly in games where they did not look good. That doesn't happen all the time. Plus we got Werner inbound, the league is over ![]()

I don't see Liverpool winning, rely too much on that front 3 and Mane will be 30. PLUS. African cup of nations is coming, say they keep the whole front 3, they lose Mane and Salah to african cup of nations for 4 weeks... What is he going to drop off a cliff on his 30th birthday? The top scorer in England, Germany, Spain and Italy leagues this season were all 30 or older. Second place for all of the above besides Germany too

Liverpool definitely has been fortunate that there haven't been any total collapses like City's defense after Laporte injury or major superstar injuries like De Bruyne, but it isn't exactly a zero injury thing either.

Second place for all of the above besides Germany too Yes that is an interesting stat but also the 30 plus things is many different reasons. Body isn't repairing as well, value of said player is also depreciating a lot but you also need to throw money at them to keep them from their heads being turned. So the 30 issue is a lot more complex than if he drops off a cliff, in which some players have shown...Ivanovic one day came back into a new season and could no longer run lol and was just destroyed at right back against any winger lol, season before he won the league with best defensive record and was in team of the years etc xD CAF has announced they are going ahead with January 2021 African Cup of nations but have a backup in place just in case but are prioritizing the 2021 January start. So yes i think it is going ahead, same way i am sure the Olympics in 2021 and Euros in 2021 will go ahead. The injuries to Salah were a few games we had this discussion before, he and Firminho last season missed like 4 games at the end (including Barca in champs league, both back for final) and this year the front 3 have played 40, 41 and 45 games this season. Salah missed 1 premier league game for injury vs Yanited. Mane missed 2 games this season to injury. Firminho has missed 0 games all season. All this front 3 played every champs league game indeed. They missed players like Allison for sure but the rest were not missed because their squad is so small but keep them fit and they can compete quite clearly they can!

Barcelona have confirmed that Arthur is to join Juventus in a £75m deal later this summer, while they will sign Miralem Pjanic for £59.4m the other way. I think Pjanic is very very good, but is the wrong age for Barca i think. So that makes this deal even crazier as they are gifting them a player who is way way younger. Still maybe Barca know what they want from Pjanic, a bit more of a forward pass that they are not getting with their midfield 3 right now.

I think the ideal thingy now would be Pjanic playing a few years of his best football and allowing Barca to remain somewhat competitive while preparing for the inevitable post-Messi era and introducing some young & fresh talent around Pjanic. That being said, it looks more like accounting motivated move without any actual footballing reasons involved.

I thought with the break, players would come back motivated and we wouldn't see any drama until at least the end of the season... But now there seems to be a complete separation between players and the coaches and it's in every media, no one is hiding it. I never thought Setien would be good enough for Barça long term, but he could at least be the solution until the elections. Because if they sack him at the end of the season, who in their right mind would take the team? Knowing that in 2021 they would automatically get sacked, bar a miracle season, and they'd be inheriting a team of overpaid, spoiled, lazy, old champions that'd throw the coach under the bus the moment things don't go well. So much to change in the club, it's going to be painful to watch until at least summer 21. And then the new project will still need to be smart to get rid of those old guys without ruining the locker room.

So many transfers that don't make sense over the last few years, what are they doing? Pjanic, Griezmann, Coutinho, Braithwaite, Vidal, Kevin Prince. I remember raising an eyebrow when they bought Turan, but it's only gotten worse...

I just listened to a podcast running through their signings since the summer they got Suarez, it’s actually a staggering list of big money moves that don’t have anything approaching a coherent plan behind them. I can’t really think of anything comparable in terms of players failing to deliver so consistently over a period of years with so much money being spent. They’re being absolutely shockingly run, what’s it look like if they didn’t have Messi so consistently doing his thing?

He loses the ball in bad places doing risky shit and his passing hasnt really improved under what under Sarri is a more pass happy Juve. He sucked at Juve under Sarri playing a regista. Well sucked is maybe not the right word. But he wasnt as good as he has been in previous Juve teams So I would think Barca plan to use mostly his offensive skills and play him in advanced positions to create instead of Messi having to do it. De Jong is an excellent deep player with good defense and possession management/distribution so they won't be overlapping roles much. Thats the only real rational one could put forward as a benefit over Arthur, because Arthur is good but he hasnt really made that step up yet to killer creativity. Maybe he will... But like.. its a real gamble. Pjanic is a mostly spent commodity and its not very good value for money. I dont know we will see. Seems more of a band aid solution which has been Barca's MO for a while now. And very few of the band aids have actually stuck.
