Well played Atletico? Hell no. They were atrocious and should have conceded at least 5 goals before extra time. As much as I was rooting for Liverpool to get eliminated (because they're scary), they deserved to win this one 100 times. Atletico defended all game but they defended so poorly compared to how they used to before. They didn't even press, players were walking and Liverpool sliced through the wings like butter.

Gotta feel sad for Klopp, they're out of every competition and they might not even get to celebrate winning the league normally because of the virus. Football is cruel xD

So 4 english teams making the QF last year was pretty much a fluke isn't it? The EPL isn't that strong as people say it is, barring City and Liverpool the rest of the teams are pretty dam weak. Atletico Madrid is 3rd in La Liga and you would not favour United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs over them.

Atletico de Madrid is 6th in la liga right now xDD

Yes, they are in a bad league season, but I considerer interesting that Simeone has been 9 years as a coach of the team, and he is even rebuilding the squad after the half of the starting XI left. It is unusual in modern football to last so long, even sucessful coaches change clubs every 3-4 years.

I know this thread is not about the small clubs. But the small clubs are the hardest affected by this shit. In the Premier League you exist off broadcast revenue to a large extent. The most extreme been Bournemouth who don't even seem to have a stadium (11,000). No real incentive to build a proper stadium as long as they stay in the League they have that broadcast money (they are dangerously close to going down and losing it). But that is not the story I am drunkenly ranting about. Exeter City have been brutally hit by the Corona virus. We have had the strong backing of 'FlyBe' a budget airline based in our little city for over 10 years now. However the travel chaos has forced them to file for bankruptcy and we have lost our main sponsor (No idea how much of that money the club has received) but it's OK we can fall back on our 4,000 average (sometimes happy) punters at the gate until we find a new sponsor. If we have to play with closed door Exeter City will literally have gone from been a community based and owned club making a profit and looking good for promotion to having no revenue at all. Kind of crazy.

It might be best to just put all Leagues on hold for 3 weeks see how this progress and finish the Leagues into the summer a little bit. The Euro's can go back a year that's no a big deal (certainly doesn't affect Exeter CIty)

Yeah I was thinking about that too, it seems forever ago but the controversy about the FA cup replay and winter break was barely a month ago and that was all about small clubs getting a big payday.
Considering how shaky financial footing a lot of EPL teams seem to be on as Bury and Bolton already showed, there might be huge problems for a lot of clubs

Drop the fluff cups for one season and you could probably get away with an early mid September start. but yeah I also doubt that whether even a 2-3 month delay would be enough, seems doubtful.

I will address Liverpool's defeat last night in a bit more than just the joke. But what I said was pretty much right. Liverpool were better, very unlucky to go out. But that happens sometimes. It's why The Champions League is the hardest trophy to win. You can be the best team in the Europe and go out on one unlucky game (I"m also not implying Liverpool are the best team in Europe right now, that's very much debatable. I am saying they are better than a club they just lost home and away to though.)

Yeah I mean Real won those consecutive titles when many a truly great side didn’t manage it.

We’ll see how it goes, Athletico aren’t the side they were a few years ago, but they can maybe string a few results together. Hopefully they can keep performing as it would be a shame if they knocked out Liverpool and do nothing else moving forward.

United starting to look like their old selves now.. past 11 games 8-3-0 with 29-2 goal difference! Ighalo isn't their long term striker solution, but based on what was available he seems like a genius signing. And Fernandes is flat out fantastic. (Not that his game today was particularly stellar, but the performance overall has been.)
