At least it's a damn good compensation If this goes through, it probably means that the Griezmann transfer saga is getting finalized soon too. I can't see Atletico committing to this unless they've got their financial side secured, probably even more secure than the Hernandez transfer allowed.

Now they clarified the rule and (iirc) stopped the stupid delay/intimidation games, they just need to apply the rule consistently and so far in this tournament it appears they might. Much more important that the rule is applied fairly and consistently everywhere, than it being absolutely perfect immediately. If it turns out that penalty conversion rate goes up massively and it becomes clearly too easy to convert, they can still try to tinker ith it then. Yeah I agree with you. The rule got recently rewritten so better start enforcing it as soon as possible. What's actually annoying me in this situation is that if you actually enforce a harsh but fair rule like this you also need to call the 2nd pen back because there are french players in the box.

And the rumors say that Manchester City will pay the realease clause of Rodrigo (Rodri) too. Around 70M. And he was one of their best midfields. So this summer they will loose Griezmann, Rodrigo, Godin, Juanfran, Lucas Hernandez. And Diego Costa is almost finished too. This is going to be a hard season for Simeone.

I feel like the goal line rule was under particular focus, so you can expect a stricter interpretation on that one. In that sense it went as players probably could expect. Based on that, I'd say it was an acceptable ruling by the ref, but looked damn awkward as a combination. I woudln't have complained about a retake on the 2nd one too though.

I don't disagree, but i always thought the encroachment of players on box was intended to be enforced if the players actively participated in the play. So irrelevant if the ball goes straight in or wide, but an offence if the encroaching attackers/defenders score/clear a rebound. e: and what bacillus said, the focus of the rule/instruction to referees clearly was the goalie on the line, however smart/fair that may end up being
