btw, Madrid already surpassed their transfer record this summer, lol. 310 millions (Hazard, Jovic, Mendy, Militao, Rodrygo). It has been a long time since last time they invested a lot of money in one summer.

That being said, I'm fine with the current rule too. The extra pressure on defenders makes the quality ones stand out more, which is always nice to see.

He seems like the obvious pick, but I don't think anyone has come forward and officially confirm it. The transfer ban makes the situation so weird that I could see some surprises happening.

They really could use him to balance out the workrate in the frontline if they're gonna play 4-3-3 too, he's needed.

He can be a bit strange/silly with PR and communications but he seems like a really great guy, very outwardly friendly and having fun without hurting anyone. Most Barça fans hate him because how he handled "la decisión" documentary last season. Nobody hated him before that. btw. I hate Barcelona current board. Real Madrid just got the Japanese talent (Kubo) that was in La Masia for years. They are so inept.

With a draw, both teams will advance with a draw (spain second, china third), china guaranteed to be one of the four best third place team. But spain will play the usa in the ro16 and (assuming they win that), France in the ro8, while for china it would most likely be italy in the ro16 and netherlands/canada in the ro8. Basiclly, china why would china want to win this game and swap their knockout stage opponents? edit: China is also very likely to be one of the best 3rd place teams even with a close defeat, but the same also applies to spain.

I don't like when you have groups of 4 teams and 3 of them can pass. This is why I hated last Eurocup, the one that Portugal won drawing every match.

Without it, 9 out of 10 times a penalty still is a massively bigger chance than whatever chance the foul stopped. There's no need to stack the odds against the goalie even further. And on top of that, applying the rule when the penalty wasn't even saved but missed is double bullshit.

Much more important that the rule is applied fairly and consistently everywhere, than it being absolutely perfect immediately. If it turns out that penalty conversion rate goes up massively and it becomes clearly too easy to convert, they can still try to tinker ith it then.

I also don't get why the GK is not allowed to be behind the line.

Yeah, as long as the rule is clear cut, you can only blame yourself for tripping on it. I agree that it may need some refinement if the conversion rates go too high, but the current one is a good starting point. The previous rule had some really sketchy lesser league cases where penalties would get retaken multiple times because almost every penalty had some grounds for a retake and the refs could call it as they saw fit.
