I've seen a lot of matches this season in la liga with VAR and the game was not paused so much. It still probably varies a lot depending on the competition and referees. The European top tier refs have plenty of routine. Meanwhile refs in Women's World Cup and Copa America might have far more limited experience on this if it's not widely used in their respective leagues and competitions. The same probably applies to players to some extend too, even they are still learning to avoid situations that lead to VAR fouls. For example I expect the defenders are going to be much more aware of the hand positioning in a few seasons.

Along with all the biased foul and card calls. Or shall we mention Nigeria vs France? Among others and others and others... The European top tier refs have plenty of routine. Yep, like I mentioned in the sentence above... VAR just increases the "errors" when things are really worth anything.

If you look at the starting line up, it's scary. I admit I don't know much about those who play in South America, but if they're not in Europe they're probably not good enough or too young. This team is just bad... 3 years ago they had good players at each position + a few stars, now they have average players + old stars. And no coaches seem to be able to build a team around Messi.
