Rapinoe's celebration and some of the bench celebrations are what kinda stood out for me, as being extremely distasteful/overboard.

It's quite common (atleast in mens football) to stop celebrating wildly when the score goes bad (Germany-SA 8:0, Germany-Brazil 7:1, Hungary-El Salvador 8:0 come to mind). And especially the way they went hard in their celebrations after the 9th goal felt very much disrespectful, like an "in your face" attitude towards the Thai team. As if they had just won a tiebreaker. When you realise that the USWNT makes like 350000 USD while the Thai team makes 169 USD for appearing at the WC... Does anyone remember when Michael Owen had a shootout against a 13 year old Keeper and celebrated madly against him? Thats what it felt like. + Show Spoiler [Video in question] + Don't get me wrong I don't blame them for not stopping to score in a group which might as well come down to goal difference but man the celebrations irk me.

It's fairly common to not celebrate when you are up 6 - 0 or whatever, kinda makes you look like a douche. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a big deal or anything, but the nice thing (which many teams are also doing) is to not celebrate too much in that situation.

I think it's a rather strong unwritten rule. You can look up any qualification game from yesterday and there's not much celebration past a couple of goal lead. Even massive highlight reel shots are celebrated with some reserved smiles and maybe a fist pump or high five or something. I think the few times I've seen excessive celebrations happen, the older guard of players have been rather quick to shut it down too.

Rapinoe's celebration and some of the bench celebrations are what kinda stood out for me, as being extremely distasteful/overboard. Yeah i had a problem with the bench celebrations, the rest not so much but when the "whole team" got involved that is just so silly lol. They stepped over a sportsmanship line for sure, whether everyone agrees or not, for me personally that was very bad. The Thai goalkeeper was 5ft 5 ffs xD

The only thing "high stakes' about this situation at best was that its a World Cup the league games of which the US dominates anyway. I have no problem with them continuing to score and not taking the foot off the pedal, by all means run up the score, its a competition. But come on, players like Megan Raponoe have had way better things happen to them then to celebrate beating a dead horse. shes been around forever and knows better. When you are clearly playing very inferior opposition and are well past anything left to actually celebrate other than a forgeone conclusion and a rather meaningless record. That level of celebration just doesnt make sense to me. I wouldnt say its disgraceful or anything, that sort of language is too strong. But I did find it in poor taste personally.
