Interesting, why officials are trying hard to avoid VAR in upcoming UCL season saying the system is too fresh? To me it looks weird, VAR is a great tool for avoiding critical mistakes.

This is the thing that continues to blow me away.

There is simply no credible argument against VAR. How often does VAR make the wrong call? I can't even think of a single instance that I've seen in the Bundesliga or World Cup. If it does happen, it's obscenely rare and the amount of corrections that VAR allows makes the mistaken calls completely insignificant. VAR may miss calls or take too long sometimes, but these aren't reasons to not use VAR. These are reasons to improve the process. As it stands, any league with VAR is simply better than a league without by virtue of the fact that the integrity of the game is much, much higher.

World cup final penalty... Griezmann simulation leading to a freekick leading to a goal, already two times the VAR fucked up in the most important game of those last 4 years. Also Griezmann penalty against Australia.

Nîmes Marseille, Guinguamp PSG and I've barely watched any ligue 1 game since the start of the season.

It's slowing down the game a ton, it leads to anticlimatic goals, it's ruining the fun. It's very very far from being black and white as you describe it.

I was initially in favor of VAR but the more I see it in action, the less I like it. I'm willing to give it a few years of refinement but I hope the governing bodies will at least take the time to properly assess if it's worth keeping or not. If it were to stay as it is right now, it would be a big no for a lot of football fans.

The problem with this discussion is that VAR is being attacked for things it has nothing to do with.
The Griezmann dive was not reviewable. And every time I read about anticlimactic goals I wonder why no one ever attacks offside, because that probably called/calls back about as many goals as VAR.

Just to be clear, VAR still needs loads of work. It had a terrible start during the first day of Bundesliga, sadly can't find gifs from the Wolfsburg v Schalke shitshow where it fucked up at least twice, but at least criticize it for shit it actually can be blamed for.

And they say it was a sucess because they got it cheaper than if Sevilla would have not tried to get it

Real Madrid is hilarious, they paid €46m for Vinícius and he is playing in the Spanish third division (2-B). Probably he is more expensive than all the other teams of the league together.

That is their development method lately. They sell young players with a buyback clause. Then, if the player shows promise they just buy him back. In this case they either earn 8M on useless player, or earn developed player for 22M. In either case its peanuts for them.

Of course there is the case of Morata, too. They tried him, then sold him, then bought him, then sold him again(to Chelsea for double the price, LOL).

Liverpool on pot 3 could lead to some kind of group of death.

And then you get Moscow, Roma, Eindhoven, Athens/Belgrade in another one.

Honestly, the only 2 teams worth anything in pot 4 are Inter (wtf, how did they end up in pot 4, below, Ajax and PSV) and Gala. The rest should all be walkovers for almost everybody in pots 1-3 (and that is including PSV and Ajax, who I kinda doubt can walk over anybody, but really, Hoffenheim, Young Boys or Club Brugge should be easier than BATE Borisov or Dynamo Kyiv, and those both got dispatched with ease).

By not qualifying enough, they only played in Europe twice and only got to GS/Ro16 in EL, that isn't a lot of ranking points. Both PSV and Ajax have played in Europe every season and both reached CL group stage at least I think, the bonus points for that are probably more than Inter got for winning games.

I've spent half of today trying to explain to a deluded Liverpool fan that yes it is correct that you are in pot C. Yes you did well last year but twice in the last 5 years you didn't even play in Europe and one of the other years you only won one game against Ludogorets. So as well as you did last year and the Europa league final whenever that was the other 3 years Liverpool won a combined total of one game. Exeter City scored just as many UEFA coefficient points things in two of those years. It is not surprising you are ranked 22nd in Europe in the last 5 years and seeded into pot C as much as you think you are the best team in the world right now.

It must be noted that I actually quite like Liverpool and really enjoy their style of play. But this guys is annoying as hell and doing my head in.

They've played group stage CL every time, even if they never made it *that* far. Liverpool has 2 years where they scored 0 points.

Yeah, the system doesn't seem to place much value in deep runs. Makes it easier for teams that play in leagues where the UCL spots aren't very tightly contested.

Nice self awareness Uefa, force everyone to watch the award ceremony before the draw, because you know no one cares about them and would watch if you did them afterwards >.<
