It seemed like the Cavs offense mostly kept up with the Warriors offense in last year's Finals. The Warriors' extra points came when the Cavs fucked up a switch and left some Warrior open for a dunk.

That team was built to outscore people. All they really needed was to defend at close to a league average level during the playoffs to run roughshod over the east. I don't know if this team has the offense to do that anymore but at least they now have the potential to be league average on defense. They couldn't do that with their pre-trade deadline team.

That's why I'm surprised that they traded Wade and that Wade wanted out. He's over the hill and can't play with Lebron anymore but he could be a decent enough bench scorer for those minutes Lebron sits. He doesn't play defense anymore but this team isn't known for it anyway.

Well the weird thing was Wade's offense in terms of scoring was the issue. But he was good at setting guys up and not being IT level on defense.

I don't see how the Cavs are going to be successful going forward. Just...Jesus. Tristan and JR have to give them a lot.

is the Fultz shoulder injury saga going to end with a torn rotator cuff?
http://www.phillyvoice.com/bryan-colangelo-offers-more-questions-answers-markelle-fultz-presser/

Colangelo is accustomed to the soft Toronto basketball media...95% of which the Raptors' owners...own.
its hilarious watching Colangelo get shredded by truly independent, critical basketball media in Philly.

My impression was that he is currently being told to limit his shots to the paint as he rehabs. That article is at least partially trying to make it sound like that is his actual shooting range. Seemed like a pretty dumb article tbh. It's a shitty situation. Who knows how it will play out. There's no secret disaster brewing that Colangelo is covering up.

if it lasts the rest of the year it is not a secret disaster it is a known disaster.

i hope Corey Joseph does well as the Pacers starting PG in Collison's absence.

Lou Williams just hit a 3 from Windsor. Sweet Lou with 10 points in less than 2 minutes. Detroit's arena is not very full for a Friday night.

Oladipo was excellent on offense tonight for the Pacers.

I think Hood is ok sometimes. Nance is ok and can put up numbers.

One issue is they are thrown into a Cavs team with no good Center and a defense that will still hemorrhage points. The 4 teams I think that can really crush them in the East (Boston, Toronto, Philly, Miami) all have bigs that the Cavs can not play Tristan Thompson against. Which means Love or LeBron at Center. Good luck keeping that up.

The REALLY big issue is a microcosm of what happened vs Golden State last year: when LeBron goes to the bench they are going to get blown the fuck out. Toronto, Miami, and Boston have multiple bench contributors that would give Cavs starters headaches. They still have to play JR Smith minutes. And no amount of lineup changing is going to alter how terrible he is now.

Philly's/Miami's bigs also struggle with Love at center because of his ability to space the floor and hit the 3. The only time Cavs played Miami this season with Kevin Love starting at center Whiteside got benched by Spo 4 minutes into the game after Kevin Love lit him up. Love had 32 points in just the first half, and Whiteside only ended up playing 18 minutes on the game.

The biggest improvement this Cavs team has made this year from last year is their bench scoring / depth. Last season Cav's bench was 28th in scoring, this year they are tied for 5th. I don't even know what the lineups are going to be with all these new players but I'm absolutely certain that the bench this year is going to be better than a bench of Deron Williams - Imam Shumpert - Richard Jefferson - Kyle Korver - Channing Frye.

Also don't forget about playoff LeBron, who is an elite rim protector, but only in the playoffs.

Utah just won their 8th in a row, including smashing the GSW last week among some other big wins.

They making a run for playoffs or just a flukey streak?

they've been smashing everyone. so i don't think its a fluke... right around this time last year Rubio got hot. Utah was full value for their recent win over Toronto in the Great White North. Utah played great.

my concern is that Rubio played hundreds of hard minutes at one of those European BBall tourneys last summer where he was far and away the best player on his team. He played hard minutes... best defender .. best offensive player.

my concern is that Rubio may wear down.

I was surprised at some of the scores. Utah won last year based on their defense while playing a very slow pace. They were scoring in the 120s a few times during their recent win streak.

When Love lit Miami up who was on the court with him😎

I'm not forgetting about playoff LeBron. It's the rest of the lineups that they have to play. Last year even with Kyrie and Love they could not gain a positive point margin once LeBron sat down. And the East is much more lethal this year. They are in deep shit.

they better hope George Hill's toe holds up.
Utah waived Rose.
i think it takes 24 hours to be waived through the league and then any one can pick him up... except Utah and Cleveland.

I wonder what GM is going to risk their job for Rose this time?

Dude will probably just retire, honestly.

IMO he should go to the Bulls. We need help tanking as our current crop of players doesn't understand how to do it optimally.

IT has 16 points so far in first half. 5/7 from the field, 4/6 from 3.

I mean, small sample size, but that is the sort of statline that will make certain commentators spin into a vortex of cognitive dissonance.

the previous game he was 4-8 including 3 of 5 from 3. 13 points on 8 shots followed by 22 points on 12 shots. there is some evidence he has turned a corner. is training camp about a month?

someone on here predicted IT's renaissance one game early... pretty close prediction.
i think he'll turn the ball over less when he gets more familiar with the Lakers system.
