EPTSo many players are just not doing much and a few are shockingly bad. I know that didn't get Stone from Everton, but they look like they need two starting defenders, a holding mid, an attacking mid, and a second striker that can score.

I think the situation at Chelsea is simple. They are just simply not good, even when they won the league last season. Chelsea is a team that doesn't knows how to attack. They don't know how to counter attack. Their goals have often been moment of brilliance, set pieces, defensive errors, or gifts from referee. Seldom were they from a solid attacking plan. 1. Hazard on left, pass back to Dave. Dave can't dribble for nuts, so he passes to matic or fab in the middle. There's no good openings, so they pass to willian, who feeds ivanovic on the overlap. Ivanovic crosses and defense clears. Back to square one. 2. Hazard cuts in from left, encounters a wall of defenders in front and passes backwards to fab. Fab has no openings and passes to ivanovic. Ivanovic crosses and defense clears again. 3. Willian from the right. Can't beat his defender so he passes backwards to ivanovic. Maybe ivanovic crosses again. Or maybe he passes to Fab in the middle. Fab attempts a lobbed pass to that sole Chelsea shirt in the box who is surrounded by 3 defenders, but it is overhit or a defender heads away. 4. Hazard cuts from the left, feeds Dave who is in a good position on the overlap. But Dave doesn't believe in his left food, neither does he know how to beat his defender. So he passes to nearby Oscar who is standing outside the box. Oscar feigns, shift the ball to the right, and shoots. But it is blocked by the defender. Chelsea won the title not because they were good. It was because their rivals were terrible. It was a gifted title. But now the rivals have woken up, while Chelsea is still using the same squad, the same set up. Chelsea can't attack. That's ok because if you have a great defense, you can win on the back of it. That's ok because if control the midfield, you can both defend and force goals. But nope, Chelsea's midfield often gets overrun. You have just 1 matic as your wall. Sometimes mourinho plays Mikel in tandem, but Mikel is no different from a dustbin in the field. Often mourinho puts Fab along matic, with willian/Oscar further up. Fab does nothing for defense. Fab can only boss the midfield when his team controls possession, but matic can't do it alone. So we struggle to boss the midfield. Matic gets easily bypassed, our defenders are not protected. We then resort to desperate or fortuitous defending. Last season it worked, now it doesn't. I don't quite blame Chelsea's defenders because they're often exposed by the non existent midfield, except for individual mistakes. Personally for now, I'd prefer putting Dave at right back (because ivanovic has individually been poor), and put baba at left back. That's because I think Chelsea needs an attacking edge from their left back, while I think Dave will be more comfortable attacking from the right. Midfield I'd ask for matic loftus/ramires midfield, because they provide more steel there. The current squad doesn't suit to mourinho's style of play. There are too many finesse/technical players, too few athletic ones. Mourinho's style is all about physically overpowering the opponent in their half, and scoring via relentless battering. You can't do that when most of your players are light weight. Chelsea 1.0 and inter were a siege machine. Mourinho's RM were based on ultra fast attacking plays from CR7, di maria, Benzema/higuain and ozil. This Chelsea? Headless chickens. | ||

Chelsea scored the second most goals in the league last season and had some fantastic attacking displays. Saying they can't attack just because they're in hilariously bad form is just crazy, but something is clearly not working. Have to wonder what effect José's antics have on the squad. Matic only got 27 minutes of playing time today, and got subbed after they got killed on the counter. Ivanovic and Terry look so over the hill it's not even funny and Hazard is still on vacation. | ||

So yes he does That's not really the kinda nuance he was talking about. I read his shoes tirade. You could actually be suckered into being sympathetic. Sadly he set himself up for this and I feel bad for the team because they are good players we've seen that. But they are not great because they haven't evolved. | ||

 so that a fair comment. Only thing i am annoyed at is the fact Ivanovic has played 65 consecutive premier league games...haha and we have never changed shape, always 4-2-3-1. Give me a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2 lets try something different... | ||
