Meet finished.

Squat 385/415/445 (175/188/201 kg) with zero red lights. I actually felt like my third was a little high, but on video I buried it 3+ inches over what was necessary. Big focus for next meet will be feeling our depth. Gonna do a lot of box work. Also going to start playing with wraps for fun.

https://instagram.com/p/BisaAnxArrT/

Bench 250/265/275 (113/120/125 kg) I was SUUUUUPER nervous for the 275 but it turned out to be my best third attempt selection of the day, I think I would have missed 280. Gonna be lots of hypertrophy work for the chest and shoulders coming up, need more mass and power overall here.

https://instagram.com/p/BisaYQ4gdfG/

Deadlift 455/495/525 (205/225/238 kg) I loved how easy the second felt (felt just like my opener) and should have been more aggressive even, but I’m content with having gone 9/9, and my deadlifts always feel “too easy” until they suddenly just don’t even break the floor. Getting my hips in the right place to start he pull and being patient are the focus here.

https://instagram.com/p/BisatWaAdfx/

Overall 9/9 with 27 white lights (I think - I couldn’t see them for bench but girlfriend reported no reds) and a 1245 (564 kg) total at 215 (97.5 kg) bodyweight for a 347 wilks.

Next meet October 27th with a goal of a 1400 total somewhere in the 242 weight class.

Rockin' that Titan Classic Singlet, it is the best. Cannot believe you are allowed to Deadlift barefoot :-)
Really good meet, congrats.

I’m actually wearing deadlift slippers, they’re just the same color as my socks.

They’re also too small for me and I don’t like them, but they were only $10 so I got them temporarily while I look for a good pair of wrestling shoes.

With some beef on your arms and improving on your non-existant arch you could bench A LOT more. Nice third lift, judges pause was really long.

you have to unrack the bar in bench competitions?
The unrealistic sound of these propositions is indicative, not of their utopian character, but of the strength of the forces which prevent their realization.

Yes but assistance is permitted (it's usually someone you know). The lifts begin with "down" command after unrack. You can also be assisted in the re-rack after the "rack" command.

Damn son, you just tied my best deadlift. I guess I'll have to push that number up soon :D Hell of a meet, good work.

Boring, underfunded, long, no prices. Doing a lift every 30 minutes in front of other lifters friend and family.

Not an Olympic Sport.

There is no arguing that Powerlifting meets are one of the most boring things in existence.

I think basically all amateuer sports is being done in front of 'other athletes friend and family'. Amateuer sport events just always have such a cool atmosphere, I only realized when I joined a club again how much I missed that.

That’s the plan. My bench form has come a HELL of a long way the last 10 weeks, next thing to tackle is building an arch. Should be plenty of volume to get the practice in this hypertrophy block.

You can get a lift off, but self-unrack is how I train and I didn’t trust anyone there to ask for help anyway.

I get a lot more of that out of rugby, team sports are great. and that’s definitely more fun to watch. I was happy my girlfriend came to watch and videotape, but I felt bad she was mostly just sitting around and I wouldn’t ask her to come to the next one (but she prob will anyway because she’s great)

Anyone follow Layne Norton? He has a fat loss series right now going into a lot of the biochemistry. He's firmly on the CalIn/CalOut camp so I'm trying to wade through his arguments.

As opposed to what other camp?

Or is he a guy that says eat whatever the fuck you want as long as CalIn<CalOut? I mean yea that works you'll lose weight scarfing down twinkies if you eat 1000kcal a day of the...but it's pretty hard to do in general in a healthy manner if you eat a decent amount of shit foods.

I really think we make diet too complicated sometimes, especially since we are still so unsure about what is definitely good or bad for various individuals. I think you can boil it down pretty well to:

1) Keep the amount of sugars, especially processed fairly low
2) Eat plenty of vegatables and some fruits
3) Get your 1.5-2 g/kg of protein if you're training hard
4) Use whatever meal frequencies/timing/number work well for you psychologically and physiologically.

This will get basically any person into a healthy, good place and to be honest I don't get the sense we know enough to give legitimate recommendations more specific than this.

And it's one opinion in a sea of others. If there even is a best universal way to eat is highly up for debate. I think most will agree with guidelines I layed out, but even some might question aspects of those.

Their isn't strong enough evidence to say confidently that eating any one way is "healthiest" beyond the most general of principles

Why are you even talking then? If you're content with your generalities, relativism and broscience, let the other people have their discussion.

Why don't you post what you want to discuss? I don't want to watch hours of Layne Norton videos to find out what he thinks.

based on his instagram he thinks:

It doesn't matter what you eat but all those various eating styles (keto, iifym, paleo, intermittent fasting, etc. etc.) can help people, mostly psychologically and a little bit biochemically to adhere to the one-true-god when it comes to weight control which is calorie restriction. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Layne Norton sounds like a smart man, calorie-wise.

I'm rather baffled by this response that verges very near being a condescending, douche "fuck off" kind of reply. If you want a more specific discussion, I think it would make sense to lay out specific things you support or are against and why, or what you agree with/disagree with what Norton is saying. "I'm watching Layne Norton and am trying to decide how I feel" doesn't really have anything specific that one can respond to. Then again, I'm preaching to the choir since your a smart dude and obviously understand that.

To answer the question, because nobody was having a discussion. You mentioned you were watching some Layne Norton and left it that. There was yet to be any discussion.

Part of the issue here is that nobody really knows exactly what you're arguing for or against, so there isn't anything to speak of beyond generalities.

The fact of the matter is, for almost every method of eating out there you can find both anecdotal results of it being implemented successfully as well as empirical evidence suggesting mechanistic explanations and observational results of that diet. Just look at how many times in the past 30-40 years we've flipped and had drastic changes in recommended dietary guidelines. At various points a majority of foods and nutrient types have been both exonerated and demonized.

Nutritional sciences is in a pretty sad state right now. It's all over the place, and corporate influence is particularly atrocious in this sphere. Moreover, we continue to learn about individual effects that alter the effectiveness of eating based on genetics, epigentics/environmental factors, and factors like gut microbiota. That effective diet has a significant individual component is almost without question.

Back to training. This is me doing 180kg for 7 on Squat / 110kg +chains for 2 on Bench. BW 112.2kg.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bkp0mYShfi0/?taken-by=hendrik_ksc

Squats have not felt good in weeks, so this was a pleasant surprise for me, I had more in the tank. And Bench Press with chains is just fun.
The scale is finally starting to move down, but I am doing this really slowly... back to ~105kg until the end of the year, hopefully.
