Anyway my point being GSP was a boring champion to watch. He WAS great to watch before he had the belt, he finished almost all of his fights. Since he got his belt, every fight but 2 has gone to decision, one of which was against an out of shape BJ Penn stepping up in weight class.
EDIT: I love Burt Sugar. The kind of guy you never wonder where you stand with him.

yep, GSP was boring. The "1985-88 Mike Tyson" is my favourite fighter of all time.

nice to see the UFC getting serious about out of competition drug testing.
hopefully, they execute on today's revealed plan and give the sport the legitimacy it deserves.

Macdonald v. Lawler should be a great fight.

Well, that's been the case in a lot recently, hasn't it? Not that I agree with it; DC got to fight for the LHW title after beating a non-ranked fighter and a 185-lb fighter who is near the end of his career. McGregor at least put away two hyped-up fighters, Holloway and Poirier, before taking the Siver fight. In both cases, though, each division was suffering from a 'lack of interest', and the DC/JJ 'rivalry' created an interesting niche.

For Rory, he was the #1 contender or close, and then fought Robbie Lawler and lost in a critical fight where he would almost certainly have gotten a title shot. I guess on paper, a rematch seems to make sense, but to me, it does not. I don't feel like Tarec Saffiedine is a top-tier fighter. But he beat Nate Marquardt, who used to be considered good! No, Saffiedine does not stand out as a top-tier fighter.

You may also suggest that Rory's offering against Tyron Woodley is evidence enough for a title shot. While Woodley is definitely a good fighter in his own right, his gas tank depletes incredibly quickly. Perhaps it's the big weight-cut (I can't blame one thing or another) but Woodley cannot seem to get any type of offense going unless he lands a big power punch. Woodley gassing out against Rory MacDonald only seems to highlight that he needs to move up a division. Anyone can stand there and punch someone who is not moving and leaning back against the cage. Despite having free reign to pick his shots against Tyron Woodley, Rory MacDonald could not put Woodley away. An exhausted Woodley becoming a human punching bag does not, in my mind, show the talent of Rory MacDonald as much as it does show that Tyron Woodley's endurance is hurting. We saw something very similar in the Gastelum fight, where an out-of-shape Kelvin Gastelum ran out of steam simultaneously to Woodley, thus producing a boo-inducing bout.

Currently, Johny Hendricks is the #1 contender, with Rory at #2, Tyron Woodley at #3, and Carlos Condit at #4. Now, what Rory MacDonald fan wouldn't want to see a rematch between Condit and MacDonald? And I know this is a moot point at this time, but why would there not be a fight between Hendricks and MacDonald?

My point is: If someone is going to qualify for a title shot, they should be a top fighter who shows that they can beat top fighters, not noob-bash their way up and then get crushed in the championship bout.

I would probably watch a Lauzon stream even if all he did was sit around eating food and talking about life.

you can't always time things so that the #1 contender fights the champ. Hendricks has already had 3 title fights in a row. If he won 2 out of the 3 then maybe he deserves a 4th shot in a row. but, he only won 1.

Look at Macdonald's only 2 losses. a split decision and a fight with condit where he clearly won the first 2 rounds. He has won every other fight.

The guy deserves a title shot even though he is a lousy draw.

Nice left hook by Frank Mir, but I can't help but think that the TRT Big Foot would of just eaten that shot like a donut.

Hunt probably landed a dozen of those left hooks on Big Foot in that epic fight, arguably harder than Mir did.

I don't even think it's about the TRT. I think Silva just doesn't have a chin anymore.

Rory is working on his 3rd nickname. Now he is the "Red King".
I was not going to purchase the UFC 189 PPV. I was just going to watch it on some pirated restream or go to the local sports bar.

But, now that Rory's nickname is the "Red King" i'm slapping down $60 for it no probs.

how about we call him Rory "The Red Water Ares Boy" Macdonald.

i found a pretty cool analysis of the Macdonald v. Woodley fight at UFC 174

The "Red King", I actually kinda like that, a lot better than "Ares" imo. I always felt his "Ares" nickname kinda added to that weirdly crazy sort of vibe that Rory had.

I've watched that breakdown video multiple times now lol. BJJScout has some of the best technique analysis videos on Youtube, and this Rory breakdown is imo the best on their channel.

One interesting thing I thought about in that video was that little segment at 9:01 where Firas tells Rory that "now he (Woodley) is gonna come off the fence". Image if you were Rory, and in between rounds your coach tells you, ok next round your opponent is going to do THIS, and then you go out there and your opponent does exactly THAT. Just imagine the psychological advantage and confidence you must get out of that. This really shows how even though the fighter is the only person competing in the octagon, it really is a team endeavor. Having a world class coach like Firas really makes a world of difference.

Man, Josh Neer is a dirtbag. Can't believe there are people actually applauding him. I can't ever support a soccer kick to the face while getting pulled off someone. Hope the iowa commission finds a way to hit him hard.

Yeah? So? Act like a professional. I don't care if this is fighting, it calls itself a combat SPORT. The UFC is attempting to treat it like a sport, and trash like Josh Neer sets the whole sport back YEARS when shit like this surfaces. And for real, I don't care what sort of picture you try to paint, when you have a couple guys pulling you off someone you've already beaten down and you still decide to soccer kick them in the face...You're a piece of trash.

And who knows what story to believe? I dunno who starts filming a fight at the end, and only for 14 seconds, but I'd like to see some more video, or read some more statements, because the other guy is telling a different story.

Probably not. Don't think he needs to. The Iowa commission said they'd still be looking to see if they had any rules that he may have violated...which, apparently, means they don't know their own rules? @_@

EDIT: They closed the case because they have nothing in their rule book about gym fights (which makes sense...why would they?).

roflmao. Ken Shamrock (age 51) vs Kimbo Slice (age 41).

Pretty sure this is the first sanctioned MMA fight of an AARP member hahahaha.

I think Bellator might be filling the void UFC's new testing policies is leaving wide open. I forgot how good Shamrocks smack talk was.

On a separate note they need to make a Ken Shamrock movie and have Micky Rourke play Shamrock.

I used to be pretty common place for guys to talk shit about the teacher or leader or martial gym and challenge him only to get beat down. I think people like to see a internet troll talk a bunch of shit and get beat down in real life. Was the kick needed, of course not. Do I mind some asshole tough guy getting beat down by another much smaller asshole tough guy, no. In fact I'm glad he did.

Pretty over dramatic saying it is setting the sport back years, that is ridiculous. If some one talked a bunch of shit to Gerald Green and challenged him to 1v1 and Green dunked all over the kid then spat on him at the end would basketball be set back 20 years? People know fighters fight, that one broke the rules in a unsanctioned fight (soccer kicks are legal in asia btw) big deal.

I don't think the basketball to MMA comparison is really fair. If the NBA was fighting to become a mainstream sport and Green was dunking and spitting on random internet trolls, and was always referred to in association with the NBA...yeah, I think people would take issue with it. However, the NBA is locked down. Basketball is huge. The actions of Green reflect on Green, not basketball or the NBA (assuming he's not under contract. If he does it under contract then he at least gets a letter from Adam Silver telling him to knock his shit off, if not a fine). I don't believe MMA, or the UFC, has that luxury yet.

Saying years was over dramatic, I admit that, but the point is that things like this don't reflect well on MMA, and the UFC, specifically. We saw it with the War Machine case, every time his name popped up the UFC was mentioned some where in the article. Neer could have treated this like an MMA fight, and for the most part he did, but to me that kick took it from "I'm going to teach this guy a lesson" to "I'm going to hurt this motherfucker." It showed that he had all the intent in the world to just keep smashing away if those two guys didn't pull him off (imo, of course. obviously can't prove that, and I only have 14-15 seconds to go on). It took a long time for MMA to shed that 'human cockfighting' title, and personally, I'd like to see a UFC event in Madison Square Garden before I die. Things like this, controllable, avoidable things, don't help the sport.

And I know that individually this isn't a huge situation, but timing is everything, and the past couple of months and years have been rough. I'm just saying things like this don't help.

Personally, I think Josh Neer is awesome. Damn straight he kicked that idiot in the face.

Well, sort of. The civilized part of me is kind of appalled. What Neer has done, combined with War Machine, Rufussport's negligence, the CM Punk signing, the lawsuit against the UFC, the steroid abuse by the fighters, Jon Jones' cocaine use, and even the Jones/Cormier brawl have all given MMA's PR people a lot of work to handle. There were a lot of disappointing cards during 2014 as well, and a lot of injuries.

The Mir vs Bigfoot card was full of great fights! Big props to Smilin' Sam Alvey and Matt Dwyer. And I know I've dumped on Frank Mir a lot (He is to me what Rory MacDonald is to JimmyJRaynor) but I'm glad to see him finally get a win. At the same time, I'm feeling bad for Antonio Silva, who got busted for PEDs and cannot get a win lately.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About the upcoming event, UFC 184: It sucks that Invicta 11 is happening on the same night. ;-;

Really good-looking card. I always want Mark Munoz to win, and the main card looks really strong. I love Tony Ferguson and kind of want to see him stomp Gleison Tibau. Jake Ellenberger vs Josh Koscheck will be fun to watch because I sort of dislike both of them, so no matter who loses, I win!

I really would've loved to see Chris Weidman versus Vitor Belfort on this card, but alas. It'll come sooner or later, so I'm not going to bitch too much about it, cuz there's still Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano fighting for le title. So here's my thoughts on that: Cat Zingano has some really big wins on her resume - decision over Barb Honchak, TKO on Miesha Tate, and most recently, a win over Amanda Nunes. Rousey fought a another undefeated opponent in Sara McMann, who may be a Olympic silver medalist, but does not have a good MMA record in my opinion. McMann's fight against Lauren Murphy made me cringe from how bad it was, and she failed to do much against Miesha Tate.

I don't think Miesha Tate is even that good. But she kind of sets the bar for how good Zingano is compared to McMann. While McMann struggled to get much done, Zingano essentially bashed on Miesha Tate for three rounds until Tate couldn't take anymore. That says a lot more to me about what kind of fighter Cat Zingano is than her record does. After all, a record is just a number, and McMann really impressed me all the way up until she fought Ronda Rousey. I thought, at the time, that McMann would be able to use her wrestling to avoid getting taken down and then would win the fight standing. That kind of happened, because McMann stopped Rousey from taking her down, but got hurt after getting pummeled by Rousey's strikes.

Alexis Davis was another fighter that I thought would be durable enough to fight Ronda Rousey standing up, or on the ground. Davis was able to stand and strike across from Jessica Eye, and was able to submit Shayna Baszler. She had essentially fought a whos-who of the women's 135-145 divisions over her career, and then, she kinda... crumbled.

So here's the dilemma in me picking a winner here: Is Cat Zingano going to be able to actually do what I think she can do, or be easily dispatched by Ronda Rousey? Sure, the Amanda Nunes victory was impressive to some people, but Nunes was ranked like #10 or something at the time. Additionally, there were a plethora of injuries plaguing Zingano, a horrible personal tragedy, and a lot of ring-rust between matches. There seems to be a lot going against her, and I don't know if she can win, but I feel like there's something about her that sets her apart from everyone else.

But again, if we use Miesha Tate as the bar by which the fighters are tested, Cat Zingano took three rounds to put Tate away, and it took Ronda Rousey three rounds to put Tate away in their second fight. The difference is that Zingano and Tate's fight was more back-and-forth with Zingano in control most of the time, but allowing Tate to land punches and get take-downs, whereas Ronda Rousey gave Miesha Tate virtually nothing. Zingano actually has a very similar style to Miesha Tate, but is stronger and has better striking.

Note: Haha, the funny thing about writing this stuff is that I start watching fights on youtube and stuff, and so I am watching Rousey vs Tate 2, and so far, in round 1, Miesha Tate actually almost got Ronda Rousey in a triangle and then transitioned to an armbar, then actually took Ronda Rousey down. After watching this, I actually have a bit more hope for Cat Zingano :D
