if you are paying the max for a bad defender at a position that is supposed to provide interior defense, it's gonna make the rest of your defense strained. it is not a no brainer, but would depend on what else you have on the roster. if you have a sick athletic center and strong perimeter defense, sure. but it would be a bad idea if you have no defense from other positions. love is decent at 1 on 1 defense against slow guys, but post up plays are rare and inconsequential in today's game. his help rotation defense is just nonexistent. but i guess the max contract is given to a lot of flawed players nowadays and why not one more. he's still skilled offensively. but really if you look at his shot chart he's been having a lot of issues scoring inside. he gets blocked on a very high % of his post shots, and he does not have a midrange game. i think if the cavs were actually running some sort of system love would do well because he's a smart player executing plays and has tremendous passing, but they are not running the offense through him. love's defense was always bad. there's a bunch of tracking numbers showing that he has the lowest contest% out of all big men, worse than boozer. he does not contest shots and play for rebound over actual defense. their team rebound % isn't strong at all despite love's individual rb numbers. | ||
